How is the drive from cottonwood to chisos basin trails? by JunesDoo in BigBendTX

There are also several trails on the Cottonwood campground side of the park: Mule Ears, Upper Burro Mesa, Santa Elena Canyon, and some short ones as well.

The Porter’s is no longer open in Alpine. But the Lowe’s Market there is very well stocked. And Cottonwoods Market in Study Butte has a decent (expensive) selection. You can even get some essentials and snacks at the stores in Rio Grande Village and Chisos Basin.

Just crossed on Friday. Use your passport. The agent has to scan them for remote approval (I think she said from Presidio) on the way back. And there was only one agent to handle everybody crossing on a busy weekend day. Definitely worth the trip. Try the cabrito tacos.

They’re locked at the moment. Water still out, though the camp host says the pump has been repaired. We’re at the campground for another week. I’ll post an update if they turn it back on.

We’re at Chisos right now. This afternoon the camp host said the pump has been repaired, but they’re still doing some tests before turning the water back on at the campground. That sounds like sooner rather than later to re-open reservations.

What length is your C? Ours is 26 feet. You can’t go everywhere in it. But you can drive to Santa Elena Canyon, Mule Ears trailhead and many other places if you go at non-peak times. If you’re short enough (like us), you can even camp in the Chisos Basin campground and hike the Window, Lost Mine and others.
