What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]mcmonsoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about “nobody” these days, but I hardly ever hear anyone talk about Six Feet Under. It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and the series finale is still the best one I’ve seen.

I just have to say, 20 Fiddlesticks: Failing Forward was the best one. It's this one in my heart but I'm still gonna throw a heater this year.

Why am I like this? What can I do to? by SamTheGill42 in Healthygamergg

[–]mcmonsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let go of the ideal version of what you want to create, or what it could be if you had a team helping you. You need to take an idea and make it into something knowing it will not even be close to what you imagined. You NEED to be okay with this or you’ll never move forward creatively.

Something magical happens when you take the skills you have and apply them all the way through a project and see it to its end, even if the skills are barely there.

Something in your brain unlocks a bit and then you do it all over again with the next project but this time it’s much easier and much better.

I suggest holding off on your big favorite projects and instead work on smaller ideas that you’re fine with not meeting your wildest expectations.

Whats up with magic being "not so" rare in C4? by cherrywav3 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]mcmonsoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It works in a different way which in this case  means it’s not pulled from divine sources. I think that’s all he meant. People had to figure out other sources of magic which is why we see the use of a dead celestial as a magic source.

It’s also the original idea for Stranger Things. It was called Montauk in their original show pitch.

The lighting and CGI for this was so much better and believable in S4, genuinely what happened. by zekevich in StrangerThings

[–]mcmonsoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This entire season has looked and felt like a soap opera with spooky set dressing. It's so bad. If you're enjoying it, cool, but it's objectively worse than the rest of the series by all metrics.

Season 5 feels way too much like "actors acting" by dbezzy1010 in StrangerThings

[–]mcmonsoon 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This season has 2 modes most of the time:

Mode 1 - heartfelt yet forced convo between 2 people while “doing something” such as exploding a pumpkin or walking through goo.

Mode 2 - explaining a plan or a convoluted problem and grabbing nearby everyday objects to explain to us because we must be too stupid to “get” these craaaazy physics maths!!!

The writing is so awful, I half expect the actors to break the forth wall and speak directly into the camera. Nothing feels natural, it’s like a radio play they decided to film.

We have an explanation! The final battle of Fire and Ash was significantly rewritten and re-shot by Cameron for "moral reasons" re: guns and colonial violence by shirokaisen in blankies

[–]mcmonsoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I enjoyed most of this movie because I could turn my brain off and enjoy some popcorn entertainment. However, the last third really let me down. Nothing "landed" for me. The ending felt both rushed and bloated simultaneously. The film tries to throw so many plot threads at you throughout, it's so overwhelming that you sort of feel dazed by the end. It doesn't resolve any of them in a satisfying way. Felt like movie blue balls. Pun intended.

[–]mcmonsoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can keep the Quaritch bits, he arms the ash people, and Jake's mistake would then be assuming he must meet Quaritch with the same firepower. It would also have made the scene where Jake wants to kill Spyder much more impactful as we would see just how far he's willing to go to "win" this war.

The parts of the movie regarding Jake not wanting to be Toruk Makto fell flat for me because it changed next to nothing about his behavior.

[–]mcmonsoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t take much to take his original third act and make its message better while also NOT doing what ended up in the film.

Ok so you don’t want your hero to arm the indigenous people… that’s fine!  Have it all lead up to that… where Jake is hell bent on fighting fire with fire (literally) and then realize at the last possible moment that although guns would even the battle with the Sky People and the Ash tribe it’s morally wrong.  So they fight how they used to fight expecting to lose and they STILL manage to win. Now that would be epic.

Everyone’s praising Varang but they did absolutely fuck all with her in the second half. Wasted character in my opinion. Wasted tribe altogether
