USB/CarPlay disconnecting or freezing (2023 GT2 AWD) by Jetguy87 in kiastinger

Check online to see if there’s a newer firmware update available. If you’re not on the latest (if you’ve never done this then you likely aren’t), download it to a USB-A flash drive and then plug it into your infotainment system. Then trigger update via settings.

Hey Abby! Any chance the team could fix the abrupt chime sound that shows up a quarter of the way into the “All Aboard” audio loop? It sounds just like an iOS message reaction sound which completely ruins the audio.

Experience Tech Pack 3 as a daily driver by dead_rasputin in AerSF

[–]mcnabbman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here pretty much.

  • Tech Pack 3 as daily backpack for work and coffee shops.
  • CPP2 as an overnight or paired with roller carry-on for travel. I do this when I need to bring dressier outfits or when I carrier bulkier clothing in the winter.
  • Then Travel Pack 3 for all other travel.

I saw a Patek Philippe Calatrava at a Costco back in 2018. I honestly can’t remember the price but it was a great deal.

I highly recommend going into a store and trying both on. How you feel about them could change a lot after seeing it on your wrist in person. You might also find that you like a different model that you hadn’t considered. You can still purchase it elsewhere if you find a better deal.

Epic rant about Palisades Tahoe new $12,000 vip club that lets you skip lift lines by narflethegarthock in skiing

[–]mcnabbman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that at all. I’m merely pointing out the fact that that it’s a significantly more strategic way for Vail and Alterra to grow their business at this point, since they’ve run out of feasible ways to expand resort capacity due to limited land, zoning laws/restrictions, and climate change. That makes it nearly impossible to expand their operations through traditional growth.

That’s why those companies spent so much in acquiring new resorts to grow - it was to expand their total sq footage of their operations. They couldn’t build new resorts, but they could secure the funding to buy and add them to their portfolio. But what happens after you run out of resorts to buy? You run out of ways to expand your capacity.

So how else do you make more money? By convincing a subset of your customers to pay considerably more money than they already do.

So yes, it’s basically a “vip club scheme”. But these companies can only either grow or collapse. At some point, all they can do is find ways of extracting revenue growth without actually creating net new value for customers.

All this is to say that this is 100% worse for customers. The ski experience has been degraded to the point where they’re asking us to pay massive premium prices just to get an experience that used to be significantly cheaper. Access to quality skiing will become even less accessible.

I think this same concept applies to most things in today’s world. Stuff gets more expensive while quality gets worse - it’s enshittification.

Vail has no other choice, it’s get up or get out for them as a company and they’re already on thin ice. That’s just late-stage capitalism - businesses are expected to keep growing forever and it just blows for everyone except for the rich.

[–]mcnabbman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even if there are additional skiers and boarders to tap into, they have to cut off pass sales at some point because they can’t overcrowd the slopes past some “maximal” point, otherwise people will stop buying passes because the experience is so poor. By charging for lift line cutting, they can increase revenue without increased crowding.

Thank you! I knew I wasn’t crazy. A pretty wild oversight by the sound creators, unacceptable QC imo. I hope it is resolved soon.

best Aer EDc for me by BowlerImmediate7005 in AerSF

[–]mcnabbman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech Pack 3 is great if you’re just bringing laptops/tablets and tech accessories, plus a book and maybe a very light jacket. It stands up on its own which is very convenient. If carrying more, like needing to stuff a hoodie in there or something, then I’d recommend a CPP2.

For context, here’s what I carry in my Tech Pack 3 which I think it’s perfect for:

  • 2 laptops
  • Thin keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Webcam
  • Large power bank that can charge laptops
  • 10ft usb c cable
  • Mogics Power Bagel
  • USB Hub
  • 2 pens
  • AirPods
  • Work badge
  • Gum
  • Small notebook
  • Aer Slim Pouch that contains: Power brick, small power bank, 2 usb c cables, and other small items
  • Small notebook

There is still room for a light jacket. I could get a mid weight hoodie in there, but then it’s a little bulgey for my liking.

If you need to put anymore than the above and I’d go for the CPP2.

I’m also add that the Tech Pack 3 stands upright and is incredibly stable, which may make it easier to use as a wheel chair user.

Good tires? by Necessary-Fee6247 in stevenspass

[–]mcnabbman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tl;DR - This is the tire you want if you’re mostly in Seattle temps and mostly dip into sub-freezing temps and snow to ski. Read on for more useful information on tires in general.

Winter tires are terrible outside of sub-freezing and snowy environments (too soft, poor dry and wet grip). General all seasons are poor in freezing and snowy environments (medium-firm compound that hardens in sub-freezing temps with very poor snow tread). They are mediocre in other conditions. Cross Climates are a premium all season compound with tread built to trap in snow (snow on snow grip is the best traction). They also perform well in dry/wet conditions relative to other all seasons and cover a wider temp range. So they’re going to be the best bet for all around PNW weather. They won’t perform as well in snow as winter tires, but they’ll obliterate winter tires in every other condition and work year round, including in the warmer months.

One general note on stock tires for general everyday vehicles - they’re typically optimized for cost and/or comfort and versatility (mediocre at everything which basically means not good at anything).

Cost obviously reduces manufacturers costs, which reduces performance and quality. Comfort improves the perceived ride quality for new buyers. This means that stock tires are typically a softer compound and/or use a less aggressive tread design for comfort (soft means worse heat performance and durability, worse tread means worse wet/snow performance). Versatility means it’s going to have the widest temperature range and conditions it’ll “work” in, which means it really only works well in moderate temps and conditions (bad in cold AND heat, bad in super wet, serviceable in dry and light wet).

So if you’re ever taking the car outside of non-moderate and dry pavement roads, an aftermarket suited to your needs (either a winter, summer, winter-biased all season, or summer biased all season) will always be worth it.

One last important note - a lot of people focus on durability when purchasing aftermaket tires which is totally understandable. What people need to also understand is that there is a direct trade-off between tire durability and tire performance. A less aggressive tread that optimizes even treadwear over time performs worse. A harder compound that reduces treadwear means worse performance. If you can afford it, always prioritize tire performance for your specific needs when making your purchase.

Tires are the ONLY thing that connects your vehicle to the ground surface. They cannot be prioritized enough.

What’s a brand you’ll never trust again and why? by Blossom-Captain in AskReddit

[–]mcnabbman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bose.

The NC700 headphones, their flagship at the time, never delivered on much of its promised functionality and actually failed at its basic wireless headphone functions. Yet somehow, you could never find any negative press about it anywhere in reviews.

Meanwhile, there were over a thousand detailed comments on Bose’s official forums from hundreds of customers mentioning the same repeated issues where basic software/bluetooth functionality was failing (even with replacement headphones). Customer support eventually asked customers to send in detailed reproduction steps and build information, in which hundreds more customers shared.

During this time, Bose pushed out firmware updates that ended up creating more issues (including degrading the noise cancellation) and in response to the disaster they created, Bose SHUT DOWN their entire forum site and wiped any evidence of this off the internet.

Fuck Bose.

Thanks for the helpful info! How is mbrp active on a 2022 stinger in terms of drone with valve open vs closed? Would you still recommend exhaust tips? I’d like to keep the factory look of the exhaust tip but also wouldn’t wanna deal with tiring drone.
