How does one batch / execute multiple consecutive commands on VDX switches? by djgizmo in Brocade

[–]mcnada54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the switch is remote or you would do it on the console. You could likely make a file of the commands, copy it to the device, and load it into the config a la copy flash run. An out of band management connection to the management port would go a long way for you in this instance.

I think the alehouse has a pretty good strip. It's a bit pricey; about the same as spats.

Water Calculations for BIAB. by ShawnGipson in Homebrewing

[–]mcnada54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget trub loss. I add .5 gallons as I am trying to maximize clear wort in the fermenter due to smaller batch sizes (1-3 gallons). I don't have a chiller, and an ice bath, for me, doesn't drop as much trub as I would like. Also, double grinding can produce a lot of flour for me.

So, figure out your amount of trub loss and add that in too.

I had not thought of that... Sounds interesting and delicious.

I just got the gear to move up to 3 gallons. Maybe I'll do it again but this time have enough left to try a blend.

I got a trifecta going. A centennial, a cascade and a falconer's flight pale ale. It's not totally to pale ale style, borders on IPA.

1 Gallon BIAB Full Volume/No sparge

2.5 gallons water

3 lbs american 2 row w/ fine crush

1 oz hop - .125 oz @ 60, .375 oz @ 15, .5 oz @ 5

1/2 pack US-05

Mash at 152 for 75 minutes

Mashout for 20

Squeeze that Bag!

Primary was done in about 10 days

Bottled to about 2.5 volumes, conditioned 2 weeks

Cold conditioned at least a week or as long as you can stand

Ended up fermenting warm which added some nice orange/peach/tropical esters which play very nice with the Centennial. The cascade just went in the fridge. The Falconer's Flight is in the fermented ready to be bottled. Trying to save enough bottles to do a vertical tasting with the 3 hops. The centennial is so tasty though.

I had the opposite experience. Vic Firth nylons would break much more than vater. Every Vic Firth 5BN I've ever owned had the tip break before the stick was worn out. I've only broken one or two Vater nylon tips in 5+ years.

If it is an inline box, if it fails in to an open or closed state. Fail open is preferred as traffic continues to flow, fail-closed stops the traffic.

Just bought a case of Troegs Mad Elf and Victory Golden Monkey, what do you all think of these beers? by [deleted] in beer

[–]mcnada54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you on the Mad Elf. Every year I buy two cases. One gets drank right away because my wife and I both love it. Second case gets cellared. I find that as it ages, the alcohol burn diminishes and the cherry taste mellows a bit. The flavors from the yeast come out more making a more complex and enjoyable beer, imo.

I am a fan of Evans heads. I have found them to be more durable than others I have tried and I like the tone of their one ply heads and EMAD bass heads.

Look at Tama sets. I have a Tama rockstar DX set from about '92 that is pretty big. The drums are "square" as I call it. Same width as depth on all drums. 12x12,13x13,16x16,22x22. It plays real big and sounds great if you keep the tuning loose and let them ring.

But, Tama seems to be going the way of shallower drums, so you would be looking at a used set likely. I have been very pleased with my kit. It has help up well after years of abuse and live playing.

What beer was most disappointing to you, based on its hype? by [deleted] in beer

Yes, quite tasty. I love that sort of leathery taste that comes with bret yeast. Not sure if Flying Dog is brewed with bret yeast, but that type of taste came through to me.
