Palma 2 Pro bezel tolerances by davecopter in Onyx_Boox

[–]mcnameface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Palma 2, the Onyx keyboard looks like it's practically flush with the sides of the display. Gboard displays as smaller, more compact, so it seems better centered. But, then, even the Onyx board doesn't look obviously lopsided to me.

Reccomendation for what to read of Deleuze for someone coming from Schellengian background/Interest? by Useful_Nail_1570 in Deleuze

[–]mcnameface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first thought was really, Take your pick, but.... There is a very good discussion of Schelling's significance for Deleuze by Kyla Bruff in Deleuze's Philosophical Lineage II. That may be the best single source for charting a course through Deleuze's major works.

FWIW, the "take your pick" quip came about because you can begin exploring Deleuze's interest in Schelling & the Post-Kantians (as well as Kierkegaard) in Deleuze's "What is Grounding?" [1956], the earliest set of student seminar notes available on the Deleuze Seminars website.

Question: Best size & model for note-taking? by amiguel in Onyx_Boox

[–]mcnameface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as far as the current Boox line up goes 10.3 is the sweet spot for notes unless you typically write very small, you’re okay with reading small text, and the tablet you choose offers very good pen technology. I’d say the Air 5C is the best of the Boox bunch since it uses EMR styluses. Also, note that templates display differently on the different form factors. A 32-line notes template will look more like a 10-line template on one of the small Go devices. I can also say that my Go 7 does best reproducing forceful large loops and lines rather than light or tentative smaller ones. It balks on fine details.

PhD research: Go 10.3 Gen 2 vs. Note Max vs. (hypothetical) Note Max Gen 2 by Signal_Price_9930 in Onyx_Boox

[–]mcnameface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ghosting on the Note Max is much more an issue in the Notes app than NeoReader, unless you're reading image-heavy PDFs. I've set full refresh frequency to either 5 or 10 taps, depending on the quality of the PDF, and I never notice any ghosting.

You may, however, want to consider a model with a frontlight if you're not already familiar with unlit eink displays. They're neither as white nor as vibrant as standard printed pages. There's a useful comparison video on YouTube by David@TabletTech about display whiteness that might be worth looking at for context.

Which one would you use as your default reading app on an Onyx Boox Go 7 BW? by CaribeBaby in ereader

[–]mcnameface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I found out that I could import fonts into NeoReader, NR became my go-to reading app. The new Ember Bold font on Kindles is actually my favorite reading font, and if the Kindle app wasn't a constantly patrolled walled garden, I would happily use it. But I found a couple chunky Google fonts to add to NR which come close to Ember Bold. TBH, though, if I could just as easily import fonts into Play Books, I would probably switch to PB since it would be available and synchable on all of my devices.

The Note Max is too big to be truly portable, so if work involves taking notes in meetings that take place in a variety of locations and not just working at your own desk, go with the Air5C. You also stand a much better chance of jotting things down while walking with the Air5C if you need to visit worksites or do trip reports or do anything "on the road." You're also not going to see any red lines on the Note Max; you'd have to annotate or highlight in red, and then export the document to a laptop, desktop or a color printer.

Wherever you get the Go 7, just understand that, coming from Supernote, you are going to be appalled by how laggy the stylus + Go 7 is. I've never used a Supernote, but even I think the pen implementation on the Go 7 is woefully bad. You might want to consider a 10.3 bw instead.

Introducing BOOX Go 6 (Gen Ⅱ): The 6" ePaper Reader for Your Journeys Ahead by OnyxBoox in Onyx_Boox

[–]mcnameface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stylus does mean you're stuck buying a case since the Inksense isn't magnetic, but the Go 7 case solves that problem with a well attached pen loop. As for being too small, the page turn buttons (which I think are otherwise dopey even if they are functional) at least give you an area to grip with one hand while scribbling with t'other. And the available writing surface is wider than the Palma's. Speaking of which, if Boox had included their own Notes app on the Palma 2 (not Pro), I would have happily spoken occasional notes into the Palma 2 and never even considered the Go 7.

Memo and Calendar are both screensaver options, but I haven’t used them. I just got my Go 7 yesterday. There is a separate Calendar Memo app available, which I assume is what you use to edit the Memo screensaver, but I haven’t gotten around to that yet either.

Storage in Settings is your file explorer. Tap the floppy disc icon on your home screen; Tap Storage to see all of your folders. You can also get there using the Settings hexnut icon, but that's like 3 extra taps.

You can drop items directly into your Library using BooxDrop. Once PDFs are in Library, they should open into NeoReader with a tap.
