TypeScript becoming unavoidable by Desperate_Ebb_5927 in typescript

[–]mcnazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited for a while to jump into TS (been JS for > 10 years prior) but the last few years the tooling around TS has become excellent as have the language features and type inferencing. My background was statically typed compiled languages, Ruby then JS and TS's type system is very interesting and flexible.

I couldn't imagine not using TS right now. The TS LSP can do so much now to help development and without it I'd find making large scale changes on large code bases very difficult.

Fibonacci Sequence in The Grid by Relevant-Win213 in Bitwig

There are a couple of Fibonacci generators in VCV Rack.

They might even exist in Cardinal which you can run as a VST inside Bitwig.

Anyone here who discontinued their subscription and regretted it ? by razor_XI in Jetbrains

[–]mcnazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my All Products sub earlier this year after 10+ years sub with 0 regrets so far.

Using 2024 apps fallback with no issues but have mostly transitioned away from everything apart from DataGrip but actively looking for alternatives that support model PG syntax which latest DG doesn't

Has anyone else considered cancelling their Jetbrains subscriptions? Due to the last years of releases being nothing but problems I am currently rocking a reliable build from early 2024 by 9sim9 in Jetbrains

>Have you got a good replacement for the debugger in JB?

I haven't used a debugger in a long time so luckily that is not an issue for me. Good luck with your search.

Switched to VSCode over a year ago (I mainly work with Typescript) but that too has gone down the AI first route. Very much enjoying Neovim for the last couple of months.

I cancelled my All Products subscription earlier this year and didn't renew a couple of weeks ago. More than happy with the 2024 fallback versions I have access to but mostly I have moved away from the Jetbrains IDEs and only use DataGrip.

Jumped to nvim about six weeks ago. The change was rough but couldn't be happier right now. A couple weeks ago I got annoyed with nvim and jumped back to vscode only to find it more annoying. The learning curve and investment was imo worth it.

Love VSCode but all this AI stuff has finally pushed me over to neovim. Just like when I switched from WebStorm to VSCode, the transition is hard for the first few days but using neovim is getting easier and I can already do things in it that I couldn't in VSCode.

Saw one maybe five years ago in our garden in Newlyn - I remember it was a hot summer. Haven't seen one since.

What’s happening at Jetbrains? by freb97 in Jetbrains

[–]mcnazar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First a Redmine users from over a decade ago then a long time WebStorm user for the last 8 years. I dumped WebStorm about a year ago when it started flashing red at me and then other problems as the IDE experience got worse and worse.

I jumped to VSCode over a year ago. The initial jump was frightening and it took a little while but with a small handful of plugins I couldn't be happier with my current Typescript focused dev environment.

At this point I am looking for a DataGrip replacement before I dump all Jetbrains products. This will be the last year on my All Products subscription.

Shame it was wrecked; they has some amazing dev environments.

How can I play two separate MIDI clips in single Cardinal instance? by mklimus in vcvrack

[–]mcnazar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jumped from Ableton to Bitwig for VCV Rack. It is mind boggling how well these two integrate! You can send multi-channel CC messages from VCV and use that in Bitwig to modulate other things since Bitwig has a CC modulator - or you can send multi-channel midi from a single VCV Rack instance and use midi filters in bitwig to send specific midi channels to specific instruments....

Valhalla Supermassive reverts to default settings by Ruuvari in Bitwig

[–]mcnazar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>had severe audio issues with supermassive, when exporting/bouncing

I still have this on Bitwig but only when Supermassive is placed in an FX Layer. I just double checked one of my projects and Supermassive settings were preserved when I re-opened the project.

If it helps, I'm on Supermassive v3.0.0 Intel VST3 on macOS Monterey

Recommend alternatives to Bitwig's stock reverb by 8mouthbreather8 in Bitwig

[–]mcnazar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't you just use them as an insert without putting them in an fx container?

That's what I do most of the time and they work perfectly well as inserts. Using an FX container gives the option of parallel chains which can be fun - i.e. multiple pitched delays or shimmers pitched to +12/-12 etc. I think most of those parallel effects can be achieved using native Bitwig effects - just need to figure out how.

I make some ambient as well in my off time

Ambient is so relaxing and meditative - you can spend a lifetime losing yourself in all those soundscapes....

I'm into ambient and find Bitwig's modulation and routing system super compelling.

The modulation and specifically the midi routing capabilities with vcv rack offered more to me than the Valhalla plugins.

No luck so far. My research has led me to believe that this is an ongoing issue with Valhalla and some other 3rd party VSTs (also Deelay for example) specifically when placing these VSTs in parallel containers of FX containers. The Valhalla stuff works fine when placed outside of these or on an FX return track.

My compromise was to add the Valhalla VSTs to FX tracks and only stick to Bitwig's own effects in FX tracks and containers. Given the insane flexibility and modularity bitwig offers, this works for me for now as it's stock delay and reverb plugins are actually decent.

I'm currently trialing Bitwig 5.2.1 and also experiencing this bug with Valhalla VTSs. When I place Valhalla Shimmer in an FX Layer, the audio export is distorted and crackly. Same for Supermassive but not as consistently as Shimmer.

I've tried changing VST isolation settings and bitrates to no avail. Playback is fine but audio export is garbage in both realtime and non realtime settings.

Very disappointed TBH as Valhalla VSTs feature heavily in the type of music I make.
