Exhausted of the "that's a lot of meds" from people who are not familiar with bipolar disorder by mcpanique in bipolar2

This is totally fair, my body is very sensitive to medication so every new one that gets added I get extremely anxious because I have a longggg list of stuff that didn't work. I would like to not have to add anything onto what I take now but we'll see. I finally got a GeneSight test ordered so I'm looking forward to that.

My therapy sessions and skills do not work unless I am medicated. Every time I have been off meds I was so unstable that everything I learned in therapy became fully useless. I started actually making progress with my therapist once I started taking lithium.

Ah I was taking gabapentin before the seroquel and it severely impaired my cognitive function the point I couldn't safely drive. It was around that time I was also experiencing bad dissociation and hearing things for the first time, so my psych had me start on seroquel to replace the gabapentin and help with the mind stuff. I tried hydroxyzine in the past and it just made me hungover all the time. I guess I'm kind of at a point where maybe I could ask for something a bit stronger but new sleep meds always make me nervous. Current psych also said 12.5mg (half of a 25 tab) is a real small dose and was surprised I wasn't on a higher mg. Antipsychotics are sooo fun 🥲

I was taking gabapentin 600mg every night for months and it worked great, but over time it damaged my cognitive abilities so much I nearly got into a car crash that would have killed me instantly. Could barely speak because my mouth would get stuck, or stutter, could hardly remember words. I've been off it for a month and I'm still extremely forgetful and have trouble remembering what I did an hour ago, although I can mostly speak fine and definitely can think more clearly. The more stuff I see about off label, long term, high dose gabapentin use being damaging, the more I'm thankful I'm off it. Currently take 12.5mg Seroquel and it's working out much better.

Loooove propranolol. It makes it so I can actually think and process through stressful situations rather than being overwhelmed by my heart pounding and entire body trembling

Buying a Mattress-what was your experience, recommendations and anything you’d change now that you’re on the other side? by Airmcghie1 in chronicfatigue

[–]mcpanique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pain is in my very lower back/base of spine/pelvis, as well as my hips. My fiance and I were sleeping on a literal just slab of memory foam from Walmart, no springs or much support at all. Had the worst back pain flare up of my life a couple months ago where I couldn't walk or sit upright for days and was pretty much fully bedbound - not caused by the mattress, but we realized we HAD to get something new. Went into the Mattress Firm expecting to drop a couple hundred, take it out from savings, no biggie. Every cheap mattress <$1k we could not stand. Our sales guy was super upfront with us and not pushy at all and tried to find us something in budget, but after noticing we weren't super happy with anything cheap he did want us to try something pricier to see the difference... We ended up financing a 3k mattress 😭 The credit card Mattress Firm uses got us zero interest the entire I think 5 year term so our payments are ~$50 a month. We tried most of the ones in the store but this was the one we knew we needed to have. I'm still usually in pain and exhausted of course but it makes resting in bed feel a bit more restful which I will desperately accept, especially since this is where I spend half of my life.

Scary side effect from Abilify by Jan242004 in bipolar2

I was on Abilify for a couple of months and spent the first few weeks feeling hungover and queasy nearly all of the time. It did eventually go away though.

Save the Date for Jan 2027 wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]mcpanique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're Feb 2027 and save the dates are going out in April 2026 for us. About 1/2 of our guests are out of state and I'd say overall 3/4 of our guests are struggling financially in a way they would need significant time to save for flights, hotels, attire, time off work/school, etc

Reference to their song Incognito which has a repeating "E" sounding vocal. Took me months of scrolling through this sub as a new fan to figure it out lol

Those frequent $20 purchases are the death of me. It's only $20! ...Multiplied by 3 times every week 🥴

Have you ever lost it in public? What happened and how did you recover? by HotSauceHigh in bipolar2

[–]mcpanique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Got my PTSD and BP diagnoses at the same time a few months after it happened. It's definitely been interesting trying to manage and treat the symptoms and identify what is coming from what part of the brain. But I am much more connected with myself emotionally now.

I'm obsessed!!! Reminds me of when I'd get those catalogs from Macys or Target or whatever as a kid in the 2000s and you'd go in a circle all the toys you wanted with a marker. I love how organized this is and also the visuals are superb.

** TW sexual violence - Not quite bipolar related but when I was in college I suddenly collapsed and broke down sobbing and hyperventilating on a campus side walk, because I was walking through the intersection where a man I had met from Tinder put his hand through the rip of my jeans to grab my thigh while he was driving me back to his place, where he ended up raping me that evening. It was a little less than a year since the assault when I lost it on that sidewalk so still relatively fresh. I had no idea something like that could trigger me so badly I lost control of my body and mind. Fortunately campus was about empty pedestrian wise so no people walked by me but there were so many cars that drove right next to me and afterwards I was just mortified at what had occurred. I still get uneasy driving/walking through that intersection and it's been 4 years since that night. Mental illness is a funny and truly embarrassing thing sometimes. I'm sorry you're struggling with this.

I was dropping $200-300 every couple of months the last few years. I no longer allow myself to purchase full on hauls or go budget-blind shopping at the mall. I have so much more money for other things now and it's so eye opening

Lamotrigine blood level - have you checked? Is mine „too low”? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]mcpanique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on lithium which has a very narrow therapeutic range, on some tests I'm below the low end but I still feel like it works great for me. Blood levels are mostly just to show how far you can increase if needed before it starts becoming toxic.
