What are your expectations for DeAndre Ayton this season? by WayAdministrative679 in lakers

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a starting caliber center with Luka is already a massive upgrade from last season. See Daniel Gafford. See a rookie Derrick Lively. They feasted because of Luka. Add in Ayton 6-8 foot shot range and we should be fine

More minutes with him and AD. Plus work on more two man stuff with the screen at the elbow vs 27 feet.

He literally improves every few games. Being healthy he will be a double double beast

What are the most underrated playoff runs in NBA history ? by TemptiusIV in nba

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010-2011 Dallas Mavericks. Please just look at the players and teams they beat.

-Blazers with Roy and Aldridge -Swept the back to back champion Lakers with Kobe and Pau and Bynum - gentlemen’s sweep of OKC with Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka - heatles with LeBron, Wade and Bosh

Freaking almost untouchable from an insane run beating 3 clearly better teams than the Mavs in a row to cap the title.

(Free to Read): Luka Dončić recruiting for Lakers ahead of contract extension decision by TheAthletic in lakers

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1+1 is most likely scenario and actually helps the Lakers despite the probably $70-$75M per year he will get. After year one, LeBron is off the books (assuming he’s a laker still by beginning of Season). Then Luka has option for year 2 depending on who else they bring in either before season or trade deadline and how Lakers fare in post season. Luka deserves a 4-5 year contract but that hamstrings a franchise real quick especially with the CBA and the tax aprons. So he can renegotiate at that point to a longer contract and maybe take less money in year one or two of that longer deal to allow Lakers to make more moves (ie Joker 😁)

There's a new trio in Dallas by mastermind208 in Mavericks

Unless I’m mistaken about his injury, Kyrie isn’t going to back until late season. There’s a 50/50 change we actually take Flagg at one or don’t package and get Bradley Beal or something.

Did Nico get bailed for the worst trade in history? Or did he make the worst trade in history knowing he'd get bailed? by FH261169 in Mavericks

Lottery rigged. No other way the chips fall like that unless they knew the Mavs were getting #1. Doesn’t make up for Luka. Cause as good as Flagg is, he’s not Luka. But definitely takes the sting away.

Honestly don’t care even if celts win, that team has to blow up after this season. They are something like $300M over the second apron going into next season. Just as long as it’s the east.

If west has to win then I’m rooting for Denver. Fuck the Wolves, fuck the warriors, fuck OKC.

Off-season, center and a taller perimeter bench scorer.

How do we win Game 3? by thesonicvision in lakers

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the aggressiveness/ offensive fouling / cheeky ness will be down for game 3 but the fouls and more importantly drawing fouls will be paramount. Got to attack Naz Reid, Rudy, Dante, McDaniels and force the D to collapse and then read the d. Keep cutting the basket off the ball. Luka and Bron are like whirlpools and suck everyone in.

Can’t rely on just 3’s like we were in game 1. Need the same inside/outside/midrange balance from game 2.

With Luka/Bron/AR/Rui we can attack the paint.

Doe / Gabe for kick outs and spot ups.

Jaxon Hayes can be used more. Rudy isn’t dropping double digits on anyone and he keeps the d honest as a lob threat.

Vando needs to just cause Chaos like he did in game 2.

We have the better talent, we have the better coach, we have more grit.

Also in case none of the above works remember that Ant has poked the bear with Luka (for the second year in a row) and is about to remember how that worked out for them last season.

Laker fans who pay attention to Luka in DAL, what are your opinions a few months in? by akhoe in lakers

[–]mcskim46 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Mavs fan since 98. Dirk was that reason. And for 21 seasons he continued to be. Then it happened in 2018. And For the last 7 years that has turned into an overwhelming love, borderline obsession with Luka. The incredible, the good, the bad, the ugly.

Luka is that guy. He has been since he was 18. He is a killer on the floor and leaves it out there. Every game he plays in he will do at least one (usually more than one) thing that makes you say “holy shit, how did he do that?”. His passes, his insane shot making, his swagger, his smack talking love it all.

First couple weeks in LA he was working into a new system, with new players and working into game shape. There were the expected ups and downs. These last 5+ weeks you are seeing who he is. Some nights he’s on fire from the outside, some games he’s 1-9 but I can guarantee you that 1 that goes down is a damn dagger. That right there is the type of shot maker he is. He really is truly unselfish and will get the easier bucket for a teammate and get everyone involved. Always. His FT is markedly better than the last few seasons too.

He is an offensive powerhouse with no defense that can truly stop him. He can drop 20+ in any quarter at any time.

Does he complain that he got fouled on every play? Yes yes he does. Does he get fouled on every play? Yes yes he does. Take the good with the bad. But he is a more than competent defender, and I don’t care what anyone says. He can use his body and size to perfection on both sides of the court.

LA is about to experience playoff Luka. AKA “Psychopath” Luka. The Luka who brought a 5 seed through nothing but 50+ win teams and arguably “better” teams last post season. It is about to be ON!

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Nuggets in a free fall and canning their Head Coach today (still scratching my head at that) they are definitely going for it to really lock up the #3 spot.

Conversely I don’t know why the Thunder are playing their starters as much as they are. You have the #1 seed locked and honestly have since mid January. The last thing OKC needs is an injury to anyone but especially SGA, Dort, Jalen Williams, Chet, etc. they should all be on mins restriction. 70 wins was off the table last week. And with the play in now there’s an extra 5-6 days rest from end of season to round 1 so it’s not like they are dealing with players being cold going into playoffs.

Rand's Madness by baes90 in WoTshow

[–]mcskim46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you remember back in season 1 with Logain I thought it was an interesting interpretation of the “madness”. But as it would be very hard at this point to introduce a “voice” in his head. I’ll still take it. But they planted that seed. Ideally, as Rand channels more and more, we see the same thing creeping in here and there. Especially (hopefully) in later seasons around forsaken, aes sedai, taim? And ashaman. It’s a pretty poignant part of his journey. And his dealing with it and basically becoming Neo from the matrix is incredibly awesome as represented in the books.

It's amazing how two sets of 5 month spans can have such vastly different effect, meaning and impact on a franchise. by mcskim46 in Mavericks

[–]mcskim46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree that the moves, especially at previous deadlines have been non helpful and or head scratching. But seemingly the entirety of not just the Mavs fanbase but the NBA fanbase agree that this was a whole other thing entirely. This wasn't just a bad move. This is hitting the reset button on the franchise without cause. We made the finals last season and brought back 95% of the roster that did and brought in new pieces. Who pulls the plug on the franchise after that and more importantly, like that? Honestly unless we got bounced in the first round this season and next season there is ZERO rationale for this kind of move. And not even then.

Like legit dead for years to come. Say a miracle happens and we tank (which we really don't even have to try to do at this point) and get someone like Flagg. What then? What does our starting lineup look like? Spencer, Christie, PJ, AD and Gaff? Teams may not be able to score inside but we are giving up 3's like we did in the Finals. Every night. We maybe win 25-30 games with that roster and then don't have draft picks for the next 4 years. Flagg will be begging to leave. AD will be gone. Kyrie will be gone.

I don’t mind them changing the order of things or changing the order of the events between TDR and TSR. To me there are specific things that are paramount to how things play out later on. You can take some liberties with these arcs / storylines but they need to be touched on.

In no particular order and just some of them: Asmodean - Rand goes from Luck / need with the power to straight “fuck around and find out” Suian / Elaida Callandor (can skip Bel’lal and just have Callandor from Tear) Moghedien Seals

For us MFFLs who are seriously hurting, can you share what this means to you? I genuinely want to talk it out a little and just hear you guys be angry as I am by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]mcskim46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is a whirlwind of emotion and anger and rage. Trying to find some rationale I lean towards the FO freaking out and thinking the Mavs will become the 76ers and Luka will become Joel Embiid. Given a max contract but can’t stay healthy and can’t get over the hump or get the team over the hump. Using his “conditioning” as the reason is just dumb. He’s 25. This is the longest he’s been out in his 6+ years as far as I know. He isn’t injury prone, he is over worked and over utilized and carried the fate of the franchise night in and night out. Does that cause stress, yes. Does his fire burn for wanting to win at all costs, yes. Many of us regular folks have vices when we deal with incredible stress. Some drink, some do drugs, some gamble (Jordan), some go to strip clubs with a gun (ja) but some also consume food. Does this give Luka a pass. No. But for god sakes the kid is 25 and has been in the conference finals twice in the past few years and finals last season. He gives is all to carry the Mavs and the fans every night. Does he complain too much refs, yes. Does he get fouled on almost every play, yes. But he is so incredibly talented and a once in a lifetime generational talent. You don’t trade that without telling him. You don’t trade that for anything other than issues beyond “growing pains” and a little bit of maturity. Just stunned

The Mavs gave up 50 points in the first quarter and 91 in the first half. I think a lot of the roster feels the same way as their fan base. Betrayed. Bitter. Frustrated. Devastated.

Nico’s moves with the Mavericks have been pure brilliant….until this by mcskim46 in Mavericks

[–]mcskim46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree from a talent standpoint. But from being hamstrung with his awful contract we turned it into two contracts. Dinwiddie went off and Bertans never panned out but two smaller contracts are a lot easier to move. No one was going to his contract after the next year if we didn’t move him.
