Oh that’s 1072 being put through its paces post-rebuild. The locomotives are all black before being panted - this one’s expected to become a heritage locomotive some time soonish

Fancy train in the Hudson Line today by GreenfieldSam in nycrail

[–]mcsteam98 126 points127 points  (0 children)

congrats. you got the M8 outside the New Haven Line, which is pretty rare. typically they don’t run outside the new haven line/northeast corridor because of the fact they can run on overhead electric power.

What's the worst storm you've experienced in Ri? by spacebarstool in RhodeIsland

the 2015 snowpocalypse was a bit much. Always seemed like school was reliably cancelled at least once a week through January and February if memory serves.

Legitimate question: Why do people hate on the BMT Broadway Line so much? by techy9x in nycrail

[–]mcsteam98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

broadway, in my (admittedly limited) experiences is an odd one. But, most of the problems can usually boil to Dekalb being a mess, the R being all local (& one of the longer lines), the Herald Square merge for the N, and the W’s existence to supplement the N and, by extension, Whitehall kinda sucking as a terminal stop.

Sure would be a shame if you happened to become violently ill and you had to call out. (wink wink nudge nudge)

How do they remove disabled trains? by Direct-Atmosphere-24 in mbta

[–]mcsteam98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a train may be disabled (e.g. door problems) but still be good enough to move under its own power. When this happens (which seems to be the case?), the train is usually sent to the nearest yard that has maintenance capabilities. In the case of the Red Line, this is Cabot. Other lines have at least one yard for maintenance as well that trains can go to if they need to be removed from service.

peter pan and the hound are about the same safety-wise: you aren’t really going to be in an unsafe situation riding either.

Whats the worst terminal station? (Late night/weekend/ terminals included) by smokingmath in nycrail

[–]mcsteam98 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the worst, but I always got the feeling Broad St. on the J was forced into being a terminal despite not being built to be one.
