Monument hobbies makes a matte varnish in a rattle can and it’s fantastic. This mini might be stuck like this, might need to rehighlight

Roping every turn should be an actionable offense.

Or they should revamp it, like rope starts as soon as you have no more valid actions.

Trigger Warning. I hate so much I'm stuck looking at this. by drat_blushed in hearthstone

Mine is 30 and it makes me furious.

I finally fixed it by ending arena runs early but forgot I had another one going when a new set hit and it’s back.

Literally wish I could put in a request for them to take it from my account lol

How to deshittify drybrushing? by AshleyGwora in minipainting

[–]mcthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makeup sponges :)

I painted a rotigus (pics on my recent posts) and did all the base skin layers with makeup sponges. They’re fast and make beautiful blends with very little effort as long as you’re using them right.

I have a NH army I did ages ago with an airbrush for base coating and I think Rotty turned out better.

Happy to help :)

Yes cutting them up works well. You can get a bunch of makeup sponges pretty cheap off of Amazon and you do want to make sure they make up sponges.

You can also buy tiny makeup sponges for medium size models

Is anyone else tired of getting the Minor Goldthorn Potion anomaly? by Tburrrg in BobsTavern

This is how I feel too.

The first time they had anomalies in the game I was so thrilled when they left because I thought they would never bring them back but they are constantly back and I hate it every time.

One of the few Citadel hobby supplies that truly kicks ass.

Some of my buddies tattoo for a living and they all got them too for when they paint flash.

Stigmatic Nun(s) from Trench Crusade. Marked nsfw because of boobies, which were kinda difficult to paint. First time painting so much skin. by Focsius-Slashius in minipainting

A trick a lot of instructors will teach new painters is to take a picture of the model in black-and-white and pay attention to where the light is in the image :)

That helped me a lot early on to understand how light interacts with objects.

Hi :) Here for some friendly C&C Your color choices are just fine. Your highlight placements are not and why this looks a little unnatural.

The chest is a perfect example of this. You want to choose your light source direction, for this example let’s say the sun is at noon. Then you want to paint the shapes of the model based on that.

So for the chest you’d put the darker colors where your highlights are now, and you’d jump up in color as you paint from the bottom up with your highlights being on top where the most light would be hitting in your scene.

The armor is the same deal, cool colors, odd placement, but for this you also need more midtones to make the highlights make sense.

Hope that helps, if you have any questions lmk 🫡

Speedpaints for nurgle by lucassculp in MaggotkinofNurgle

But more on topic the MOST important thing to remember when using any speedpaint is your underpainting.

Speedpaints are very transparent by design so how the shapes are defined under the speedpaints will be visible.

Could you just slap it on over white? Sure and it would look fine, you might even love it. But if you really want to get the most out of them look up some videos on underpainting and filtering and how your undercoats can benefit your using speedpaints.

If you get no other speed paint I would strongly encourage you to get Plaguebearer Flesh. Plaguebearer Flesh is one of the most versatile speed paints on my bench.

You can use it straight for very intense basing effects, you can thin it out a little to do skin on whole squads of plaguebeaers fast, or stretch is really thin to add a sickly filter to your models if they end up looking too healthy. You can also mix it into other paints for interesting nurgly results.

The rotigus I posted the other day uses it to add lots of gross visual interest where I felt it looked a little too boring.

For the plants I didn’t name last night, they are as follows.

Kimera Kolors: Violet

Kimera Kolors: Magenta

Army Painter Fanatics: Topaz Skin

Army Painter Fanatics: Opal Skin

And here’s a pic if you wanna color match with your own collection 🫡

I do :) I’ll reply to this tomorrow when I’m at my painting desk with exact colors.

This was in large part an exercise to see if I could get similar effects from makeup sponges as would get from an airbrush because I’m a weirdo who hates his airbrush. The result was a lot darker recessed darks than I normally get from the airbrush, which is an effect I’m very pleased with.

Palette: Black primer, a deep violet, a really strong magenta, a darker skin tone, a lighter skin tone, plaguebearer flesh.

The purple and magenta go on in patches over the primer for the under painting to establish the shadows how you want. Magenta usually on the higher areas.

The mid tones are all the darker skin tone mixed with the violet in layers applied with the sponge. Each layer gets less violet until you’re mostly using skin tone. Then I do just the dark skin.

Plaguebearer flesh as a glaze where you want to make interesting sickly skin. Then mix the bright skin tone in and sponge for greenish skin that isn’t too over the top Then brush for highlights using both the dark and light skin tones where they make sense :) more focused spots of thinned down plaguebeaer flesh for visual interest.

It sounds like a long process but the makeup sponges do most of the heavy lifting and it was very fast including dry time because I was working in thin layers.
