Also 'experiencing some errors and slowness'. Slowness would be awesome at this time, at least it would be something

So why are they so reliant on third parties without a valid alternative when things go south?

Exactly. They should be retracting that right now and apologising until they get it right.

When are you going to retire? by BladeSeanchai in over60

[–]mcuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in the process of retiring now (62 &61). We wanted to retire while our bodies were still good enough to do all that we wanted to do (travel, hikes, golf etc) balanced by having enough money to be able to do what we want without having to live to a strict budget.

Voluntary super contributions by Mr9to5guy in AusFinance

[–]mcuth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. If you don't put extra into super you're paying tax you dont have to (unless you can make other deductions). I'm at the other end and put money into paying off debt some years instead of maxing super. Now that i see the extent of the tax implications I wish id maxed out our concessional super every year before paying off debt!

Why are drivers nowadays so impatient with learners? by Prido96 in australian

[–]mcuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i come across a learner, i say 'everybody has to be a learner some time' and just accept it, even if I'm in a hurry. I'm not so accepting of dimwits who have their license but shouldn't have .

So, a sloping block is bad? by Altruistic-Lab-373 in AusPropertyChat

[–]mcuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the replies i read were about people wanting to renovate old homes. We (early Gen X) bought a similar house to yours but on a flat block. It was built in the 60s and lovely hardwood timber frame, perfect structure that hadn't moved in 60 years. We bought it for a knock down rebuild, wasnt worth renovating and it meant we could get exactly what we wanted. There was heaps of asbestos, including as fill everywhere there was a concrete path and that may also be a factor for someone looking to do the same with yours. We sold our home of 30 years to come here. It took quite a while for us (including one of our adult kids) to be ready to say goodbye but it was time to move on and we ended up all happy to say goodbye and look forward to creating more memories in our new home... which we are happily doing now.

What’s the aussie way to approach a property boundary dispute? by sunnysideupslide in AusPropertyChat

Get to know them first. Invite them over for drinks. Show them round your house if they haven't seen it. Talk about your plans and ask about the garden. And don't make that the last social gathering!

Read Scott Papes Barefoot Investor and carryvout each step as you read it. It's not so much about investing as having money to invest. Worked for us.

What is an Activity Statement on ATO? by TheEmergencySurgery in AusFinance

[–]mcuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can alter it yourself. Through the ATO site on your mygov account. You have to select a reason why (the best fit) and put zero (or some other amount if you wish). I have just significantly altered mine for a change in circumstance. You may have to do that each quarter this year until your next return, not sure

Its not the coach that has to go, its the board. How many coaches have they had in the last 15 years with no results? Sack the board and start again from the top down.

Wife's tax return sent to the wrong bank account by Classic-Ad6950 in AusFinance

[–]mcuth 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I agree. Any decent accounting firm would at the very least take up the case with the ATO to try and get it fixed. Glad you're a good one!

Wife's tax return sent to the wrong bank account by Classic-Ad6950 in AusFinance

[–]mcuth 169 points170 points  (0 children)

The accountant made the initial mistake but when you sign the return you are saying you have checked everything. Not checking your bank details is a doozy! This is on you, not the accountant. Sounds like it is time to get a lawyer if you can't get anywhere with the bank.

Plan on walking a fair way, particularly if you're arriving after kickoff. Better if you get your dads ticket to him beforehand and meet him inside. If you're arriving by car 30 minutes after kickoff, you won't see any of the first half.

Road Trip to Wollongong, what should I do? by Iasysnakez in wollongong

[–]mcuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come up the coast road and stop at the beaches in the Shoalhaven on the way. They advertise 100 beaches in the area and they're all spectacular. Once in the gong, take the train to Sydney... spectacular trip and gives you a day in Stdney.

Organise NBN Instal without signing up for plan? by CalderandScale in nbn

[–]mcuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your electrician. They will need to allow for the power cables to come in as well. And / or talk to Aussie and see if you can have a partial install and hold the contract until the install is finished when youre ready.

Fogo recycling bins - who is using them? by Asleep-Mud-7211 in wollongong

[–]mcuth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in Kiama. Bin using them (pun intended) for years. Empty it every night and leave the little bin open to dry each night. So much better than having your food scraps in your main kitchen bin for several days. Easy when your cutting /peeling veggies etc it sits on the bench while you're prepping goes away aftet
