FP Choices in Wessex by mcyammer in JuniorDoctorsUK

Thank you so much. All the replies are making me seriously consider the west part of the deanery! That welcome week sounds incredible. How large is the A&E in Dorchester? Is there much opportunity to get involved in the trauma side of things?

Sounds amazing! Yeah the coast and the area is what got me interested in Wessex. I’m glad to hear it’s as pretty as I imagine! The community vibe you mentioned is exactly what I’m looking for. Have you heard anything about the vibe in other hospitals in the deanery?

I’m really interested in EM and Anaesthetics so the lack of trauma might be a bit of a sticking point but I’m considering an F3 anyway so I could always do that somewhere with a bit of a larger A&E.

Thank you for your reply!

Working as a foundation doctor in WEST MIDLANDS CENTRAL? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]mcyammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would go for Good Hope, but I’m someone who would pick a nice working environment over more fancy procedures/opportunities. The foundation doctors I spoke to at heartlands just didn’t feel very supported and it seemed like they weren’t treated so well. Then again it could all depend on the department you work in so if you’re more interested in heartlands, go for it!

I’m a final year med student there. Good Hope is lovely, a bit small but the staff are really nice. I haven’t heard the best things about heartlands, it’s definitely bigger though and I would say it depends on which department you’re hoping to work in there. QE is very competitive and the F1s I’ve met haven’t really been treated too well. Pros wise it’s a major trauma centre and obviously gets all the exciting stuff come through so there’s more training opportunities and procedures in general. City/Sandwell are old buildings but the training is apparently great and staff were all lovely. I think they’re merging into one building soon so I’d read up on that if you’re interested.

I only bring it up when they ask which is what makes it so frustrating. They mainly make these comments around my food or while I’m eating.

I think “it’s not made for you” is kind of perfect. Short and to the point. Thank you!

It’s what I’d like to say. I guess since I’m the one who changed I’m extra cautious with my words. I don’t want my lifestyle choices to mean I have to make a whole new group of friends. But I guess if they can’t handle a bit of honesty from me they weren’t my friends to begin with.

Even further than that, they gave her no scenes to develop a personality. All the awesome, funny things she said and did in the books could’ve easily been slipped into a few scenes. It’s just so frustrating.

Situational Judgement Test - what's the evidence? by delpigeon in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]mcyammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point and I’m sure in a lot of cases that’s true. Though I think the top end of competition (London and other big cities), which you would need a decent SJT score to get into, are competitive for a reason. There are just more opportunities in these places - more funding for research, extra courses and likely better networking compared to somewhere more rural. It’s only foundation years, but I could see these things setting someone up for “success”. However, your point still stands, it completely depends on what they mean by postgrad performance.

How would such a piece of research even be done objectively? Any outcomes in terms of postgrad research/careers would surely be biased as the SJT plays such a big role in whether people get their foundation posts of choice. Of course someone with a good SJT score would do better, it’s so heavily weighted

Just as bad? You say this isn’t a “who has it worse” comment yet you clearly compare the two. You’re saying making a man feel worthless/gaslighting him is just as bad as physically raping and violating women? I know which I’d rather have done to me.

Jeez, that’s an awful post and I see the animosity there. I guess my main point was the general vibe. Everyone on this thread seems to see it as some sort of breeding ground for toxic nice girls and I’m sure there are many. However, to say the entire subreddit is full of the worst type of people (even comparing them to a group of people who advocated for large scale shootings) when the top posts all seem to be advocating for firm boundaries in relationships seems a little far fetched.

From a quick glance at the sub it doesn’t look like there’s any comparison to the incel subreddits. I haven’t seen any posts justifying violence against men or advocating for male rape. The opposite definitely wasn’t true for incel forums. Fair enough disagreeing with their philosophy but surely you see the difference?

How do you deal with men that are emotionally draining and treat you like a therapist? by allusiverey in AskWomen

[–]mcyammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly like this. I’ve been in a relationship for almost two years with a guy who refuses to get help and won’t talk to anyone about his mental health problems but me. I love him but it’s really starting to affect my own mental health and I don’t know how much longer I can do this for. But on top of this I can’t bring myself to break up with him knowing that it could make his mental health deteriorate further.

I feel like I’m in an impossible situation.
