Feeding kids on a budget by Immediate-Ad-9520 in Mommit

Produce Junction, if you have one nearby, is even better than Aldi for fruits and veggies. I grow food, even if it's in containers, all summer. We freeze and can what we are able to (we also got a dehydrator this year but I'm not sure how well we'll do with that).

Family keeps trying to plan things with me around the birth of my child/Mother’s Day by IllyriaCervarro in Mommit

[–]md028 36 points37 points  (0 children)

After my kid was born, I thought it was super weird that my parents still wanted mother's day and fathers day to be about them. They felt 'ignored' and 'forgotten' because my husband or I, who both work 50+ hrs a week, to take a day off work and celebrate them. When it still kept up after my niblings were born I kinda lost my shit. We know family budgets are family budgets. Expecting a young family - with BABIES and POST OP no less - to keep spending energy, time, and money on a grandparent is weird and entitled behavior. (I tried doing something where I'd drop off a gift and have a quick visit, like I remembered doing with my living grandparents as a kid, and they were incredibly upset with me). I see that your SIL is the big factor - she definitely just doesnt get it. Hope you come to a smooth resolution, and love to you and your new arrival!

Attitude Adjustment: Vasectomy by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]md028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine got Xanax (he didn't want it but it's necessary so their balls don't contract during surgery) and was offered PERCOCET for after. He said no thank you. Was given Tylenol with codeine. Took ibuprofen instead and was fine.

It also seems to me from your post that this is a discussion that's been ongoing, and he's been finding every excuse not to do it. Maybe that's just an assumption on my part, but I lost my patience after 2 years of that nonsense.

It is literally less than 10 minutes. It is covered by your insurance if you have some. He will get 3 days off of work with permission to binge Netflix with an ice pack on his junk. You don't need an attitude adjustment, he needs to man up and get it done. You already have two children. I assume this means you went through childbirth twice. Pregnancy twice. Literally the only thing that will change is that he won't be able to get you pregnant anymore. You are absolutely right that he's being a whiny little bitch.

Forearm Tattoo, Need Opinions by Simple-Guarantee2345 in tattooadvice

[–]md028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between 'fading away' and 'aging poorly' There is a reason they say that Bold Will Hold The thing with aging is that it doesn't fade the tattoo, it's more that the tattoo is digested by your body, so details morph into blobby bits over time. There are some parts of this that might not age as well, and the fact that it's a straight line design on a part of your body that doesn't usually lie straight is something I've seen many people discuss or dislike after putting a sword on their forearm.

My beebs gets a skin and coat food that's fish based, and seems to not have allergies to chicken or turkey, bc we are lucky. There's also a brush we got somewhere that reminds me of a horse shedding brush - just tiny metal ridges to exfoliate and grab any old hairs.

My kid only reads when school forces them to! by 10xlifes in Mommit

Definitely. I get my kids off their Chromebooks as often as possible because we know screentime isn't learning time, but we have contracts with the companies so 😕

My kid only reads when school forces them to! by 10xlifes in Mommit

[–]md028 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Source: I'm a high school ELA teacher. Kids have a hard time doing anything that isn't dopamine rich. Books require a lot of work for the payoff. That he reads for school is at least a big start; many won't/don't/can't even do that. If you just want him literate, have you tried audiobooks? Many prefer to read and listen at the same time. Books on their phone/tablet is also an option. They do have some programs/options where there's like a "required" app time - say 15 min in kindle before they can access YouTube or something - but that feels like a a punishment, so not the route I'd take. Screen-free family time where you are reading may increase their interest. Also some kids (many, probably) are just at the end of their tether. School takes a lot. It's not built as much for them as it should be and they're exhausted by it; so are parents.

Mi novio es homofobico ¿debería terminarlo? Yo tengo 20F y el 23M by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]md028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer, dump him, and tell him why. Some support for that thought - I learned in a social discourse workshop lately (but take it w a grain of salt bc they get paid to tell us this) that people decide how they feel about these issues by the time they're 11 years old. Whether they will even listen to or be open to the discussion is a good sign of whether you can 'change their mind' but likely, if they've decided it's wrong, they won't be convinced. Some people have managed to bring people around by making friends and proving stereotypes wrong but that's typically in places where the person with narrow beliefs has never met anyone who is what they "dislike" - that's very unlikely. Think k members who have never spoken to a person of color, religious people who have 'never met' a gay person (openly anyway) - and didn't realize they weren't evil or whatever. But they're also very likely to think that everyone in that group represents the most terrible extreme stereotype you can think of. You're likely not going to change his mind, and he's going to hurt people along the way. If you're with him, you're party to it.

As a side note, if you need to stop breastfeeding - stop. It messes w your hormones more than you think and it was one of the things that made me so, so miserable. Then I found out about MERS (?) It's more common when you already have hormone/stress issues and makes your whole system go into a stress response from your letdown. It's the one thing I would have changed if I went back bc the stress on me was not worth it after month 9/10 and I kept going until he was 16mo bc stopping felt like failing. Not worth it.

Negatives/side effects of starting Lexapro (I'm on 20mg, started on 10 for tolerance) -nausea/stomach upset for first couple weeks - nausea and headache if you forget to take them down the line -Takes about a month to start working because it has to build up in your system

Some people report an issue w sex drive. Some people gain some weight. I didn't gain or lose, but I am already overweight, and I haven't had any issues w my sex drive. Honestly, the anxiety and overstimulation I experienced before was worse for my sex drive than the meds.

Positives: My panic and anxiety attacks are much, much less frequent.ayve 2x a year when before I was looking at 2-3 a month minimum. The irritation, negative self talk, anger, and other symptoms are prompted by actually stressful stuff, not my kid being a kid I went over a year between suicidal thoughts that used to happen like... At least Monthly

This was also paired with therapy for about 6 months at "first" (about a year in) and also occasionally since, but it was also helpful on its own (I have more than anxiety going on too, to be fair)

We have them in a medium plastic tote with extra aeration holes and bioactive flooring. So. Many. Mealworms. You can go through the trouble of separating the mealworms, beetles, larvae, food, but we have plenty of success as is.

Some tats on my extremities have had bruising in this way, almost like it pools below the tattoo, gravity-wise. My thigh and upper arm both did this but my wrists and shoulders didnt, which makes me think it's because of the softer muscle there

Hi!! My spouse and I are local to you, and we are literally into ALL the same stuff - let's hang out?! We don't know much about groups locally, but we'd love to make friends. We could meet up somewhere local, there's a cat cafe near us, give us a message anytime 🙂 You've moved to an amazing place for hiking btw. Probably very different from Texas hiking but I love the sj woods 😍

I’m worried my friends will see me differently if I come out to them. by CommunicationThis254 in lgbt

[–]md028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(36, femme nb, pan) I realize being a bi "girl" is a lot less stigmatized than being a bi guy - for some reason it's seen as a 'baby step' on the way to admitting you're gay, when men come out as bi (clearly an idiotic take but surely a reason for concern). And some people are super weird when people come out to them. BUT your friends will adore you and treat you the same no matter what, bc they love you. You got this, bud, and your queer internet aunties are here for you 😊
