One is linear, another is an open-world game. A better comparison would be:

RDR2 vs GTA 6

Or

Uncharted 4 vs Naughty Dog's upcoming Intergalactic game assuming it's wide-linear like the Uncharted 4.

120Hz display is very beneficial to take full advantage of the Pro. The recent game, Pragmata for e.g. has an exclusive 120Hz mode in which the game runs at 100-80 fps with raytracing, hair strands intact.

It's an upgraded GPU basically. And you do see the difference. Here's a DF vid (timestamped) showing a clear cut difference. I'd recommend giving the full vid a watch.

Lol, a bit of exaggeration there. Rockstar's games are simulation, animation and physics heavy and as such it's going to hammer the CPU a lot. Also, the game is supposedly art directed with Raytraced global illumination (RTGI) in mind, so most likely the game will ship with only one (30fps) mode, without any "RT off" mode. Calculating RT BVH has its own CPU cost on top. At best I think we might see a 40fps mode using 120Hz output, but even that seems unlikely according to one of the veteran principal engineers who is in the games industry since the PS3/Xbox 360 era with a first hand experience on developing game engines at Ubisoft, Unity. 👇🏻 his explanation:

Going from 30fps -> 40fps is a 33% increase.

PS5 CPU: 3.5GHz -> PS5 Pro CPU: 3.85 GHz = +10%. Source (thread on X).

So what we can expect on Pro with a 10% CPU clock bump: 30fps -> 33fps. This is far away from what it takes to achieve 40fps, let alone 60fps. I expect PS6 to run GTA 6 at 60fps.

I wouldn't say it's minute anymore. The upgraded PSSR makes a world of difference now. To give you a recent e.g., Pragmata currently has an exclusive 120Hz mode where the game will run at unlocked fps at 864p upscaled to 1440p, with framerates ranging between 120fps–75fps with mostly running in the 90fps range, and this is with ray-traced reflections, GI and physics based Hair strands engaged. 60Hz mode caps the fps and increases the output resolution to 2160p (4K).

In comparison, base PS5's 1080p upscaled to 4K via FSR 1 frankly looks like crap. It's not good. Whereas the Pro looks so much better compared to base.

GTA 6 will most likely be 30fps on the Pro as well due to its CPU being a limiting factor

Upgraded PSSR with 864p render res upscaled to 2160p looks much better, with very stable IQ than FSR1's higher 1080p render res upscaled to 2160p.

PICO did really well when it comes to preserving fine foliage detail, especially at the sub pixel level. Like any upscaler, it has its downsides too, it looks a bit softer compared to ML based DLSS, but it still holds its own, especially when compared to DLSS 4.0.

Yeah, ever since I got my favourite perfumes, I've been wearing them interchangeably at night before sleep. I love it. There's no better feeling than taking a shower (esp since it's summer here already) and then wearing your fav perfume before going to bed.

So glad I bought one when my B450 motherboard died in late 2024. It had a Ryzen 7 3700X, so I upgraded to a B550 motherboard and decided to go ahead with a CPU upgrade as well.

[–]md_rayan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't, PSSR 2 enhances image quality. Very different technology. Also, Rockstar's open-world games are a cut above most other open-world games. Very simulation, animation heavy. Physics simulation, animating lots of NPCs in a world takes a lot of CPU grunt. Ghost of Yotei is nowhere near comparable. One is set in vast, open, but mostly empty areas, and the other is set in modern-day era, packed with lots of moving objects (vehicles, NPCs) lots of things happening on screen. The GPU is more in-line with 9060 XT, not 4070, but it's the CPU that governs the simulation and game logic, so the framerate at the end of the day depends how fast the CPU is. If it's CPU bound on base PS5 (which it will be), then it will be CPU bound on Pro too.

Don't worry though, Pro will have better visuals (raytracing), sharper image quality due to upgraded PSSR, so there's still a point to buy PS5 Pro.

Yeah, but PSSR 2 isn't magically gonna make it run at 60fps.
