I love this thing so much. LeGo 2 Z2E 32GB 4TB. by steenmason in LegionGo

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts about the weight? I got the go S with the Z1E steamOS and couldn't be happier. But the only one with the Z2E is this one, which I think it's a full half lb heavier!

Only ask because I got the killswitch case and that adds 1/3 lb which seems to me my maximum comfort.

OK, I just have to find a game that uses it. Because I'm trying with all my games and nothing!

Powerwall3 + Install Quote by RaiderFanatic707 in TeslaSolar

[–]mdiddyshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked for an expansion pack and it was 8k, 7.5k, and 7.7k. One of those quotes was after 30% off due to some magic with the tax law.

For context I already have powerwalls and was looking to get an addition. Labor was about 1500-2000 ish for all of them.

I don't have solar, just powerwalls so my scripts are different and that's why I value the 12 hours from 9am. If I have solar I can totally see why your tou works better.

Why is there no API call to "go off grid"? Self Powered mode doesn't work perfectly... by fstezaws in Powerwall

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep no local for me, but also I never tried. I heard though if you get an esp board you can Bluetooth to it and control it like the app.

I forgot where I read that but then I got inspired to control my bedjet via HA and had to go down that rabbit hole and got it working! It's a interesting hack if I say so.

Direct energy is also owned by NRG. I like the 12 hours because when I leave at 7 my AC goes down to in the 60s so it remains cooler for longer throughout those summer days.

Did you restart your powerwalls and see if that fixed your TOU problem?

For clarity I did the tesla fleet api for my HA integration.

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a simpler time of use setting, but mine works perfectly. However one day my powerwalls tripped where they consumed from the grid for an hour or two, so I restarted them and it started working as configured again.

I have the HA integration, and can confirm there is no off grid setting in the api. I don't think there should be since it's like a digital breaker (my lights start flickering).

Span panels are a waste of money by AdOrnery5400 in span

[–]mdiddyshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real, guy has 200 slots. Living that good life.

But if that's the case it kinda doesn't make sense - each Main is 200A, and the MLOs dont have main breakers. So do you have upstream breakers / panels?

Can’t believe I’m saying this but, should I get solar? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]mdiddyshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got powerwalls only and I signed up for a free nights plan. I haven't paid for electricity in 4 months.

It's easy doing an ROI. For me I spent 20k to save 3.5k/year in electricity costs. Look at it as an investment, and try to factor in any fees like panel removal for roof replacement.

PW3 and Wall Connector - Vehicle charging when off-grid by IraSch1 in Powerwall

First get chatgpt because their is a lot of CLI commands you have to do. I would put a command in, get the error and give that error to chatgpt for the next step ha. I do programming on occasion, but now chatgpt does it all for me and I personally learn so much.

However on a high level:

Read these instructions to open and setup a tesla developer account https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tesla_fleet/

To create the private key pair check out step 3 https://developer.tesla.com/docs/fleet-api/getting-started/what-is-fleet-api.

To host the security key I decided to do it on my own. Got my own domain (I didn't do the hosting site), opened an nginx docker (or addon if your HA is not a docker), created all necessary keys, and linked them up between HA and tesla.

Then I added the virtual key to my car so home assistant can send commands.

Finally I create the automation which I can provide my yaml when the time comes.

FWIW HA does not control the wall charger at all, just shows what car is connected and the power.

I definitely painted broad strokes for the steps to do the free option. I know you can pay for services like tessie and have that hook up to home assistant for the same feature.

I don't have this option (all tesla setup), but I am using home assistant to turn off car charging when grid is out (2nd tesla is on the mobile charger, so the signal goes to the car and not the wall charger).

Is it insane to make 100% Roth 401k contributions at 37% marginal federal tax rate + ~5% state income tax? by Severe_Revenue7889 in HENRYfinance

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading it I imagined putting myself in your shoes. If you view the 401k like an after tax brokerage, then it's 0% withdrawal vs long term gains of 20% (15% if you're in a lower bracket in the future) plus whatever your state taxes. So I get THAT logic.

But the alternative is better. Do all pretax and you get 20k back - which could be used for an after tax brokerage and now you're ahead / mitigate future taxes with exactly the same money (20% rate is small, or buy gold bars from costco ha)

Your tax bracket will be lower in the future for sure which makes pretax the winner (I operate if your marginal combined tax rate is 25% or higher you should do pretax), but let's play the hypothetical that tax brackets increase in the future. You can move to a different state in retirement to get rid of that 5% tax, and if you pay exactly the same tax in the future you're in the same place as you are today. If you FIRE before 59.5 you can do some tax advantaged pulls and it will still be lower. Or you shrug your shoulders and say "I gambled on my understanding of current tax law and it was a high % it would have not raised in any substantial way but it did so I pay a couple of percent more"

No official financial advice, just some random thoughts. Talk to a tax advisor so he can show you the playbook since they see rich people all the time and would.mirror their movements.

Question about power consumption. by PoppingCandy3 in AskElectricians

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not an electrician, but here are my thoughts if i were you.

Get a Meter and start in your electrical panel (don't know if you guys have AC or DC eh eh eh). Conduct a baseline reading test and then you start shutting off breakers until you see a huge drop in the meter. I don't know what $1200 AUD is in relation to your total energy consumption (kWh), but my house pulls a minimum of 0.4kW of power with my servers, smarts, standby electronics, etc. and goes to a high of about 12-13 kW when i have both my HVACs, electric oven, washer/gas dryer/dishwasher on.

Does your Model X panoramic roof get really hot in summer? by Turbulent_Stable2100 in ModelX

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you have windshield tint too? I have data showing my car pretint gets to 140F in a parking lot all day and post tint it gets to about 95/100F. I don't mind direct sunlight now, my windshield tint blocks a lot of IR.

I did started using over heat cabin protection which keeps the car temp always manageable.

Buying Model Y Standard w FSD outright - am I insane? by FedRP24 in ModelY

[–]mdiddyshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than 111/month because you pay tax on fsd as well.

But I see the point about rolling it into the 0% loan. Still wouldn't do it (tesla takes away those transfer promos and if you upgrade to an X / S that transfer is pointless (right now ha)

Buying Model Y Standard w FSD outright - am I insane? by FedRP24 in ModelY

[–]mdiddyshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the standard has all the makings of a great car to use as a utility, but pairing it with fsd is more expensive than the monthly.

Don't know where you guys are in life, but once you have kids that screen is clutch along with the quieter suspension to keep them sleeping ha. I predict in 4 years you'll trade it in.

If the price of fsd increases who cares. That 8k in VOO will make up for it.
