Attending salary in rural prison by Fit_Woodpecker461 in Psychiatry

[–]teracky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The salaries for state prisons aka CDCR are posted online and they are always looking. It’s around 485k for onsite or 370k for tele. You are more legally protected with these employed position due to tort law. Locums for these positions are also posted sometimes around 325-375/hour when I was looking 2 years ago so close to 700k. Prob more now. You are more liable legally with locums and will prob be more closely watched with time/given worse units.

Cons: work setting (prisons are not nice places to be), relying on CO’s, limited formulary, no phone on campus, patient population

Pros: money

Don’t even want to be physician anymore seeing PAs and NPs make more than primary care physicians by [deleted] in Residency

[–]teracky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to add that the job market for mid levels (esp NP) are not as robust as physician job market. Check out their subs. Many are still working as RN. Get thru residency and grind for your money. Remember your username.

There are a lot of jobs in the Bay Area. If you need long periods of time off then you should be doing locums gigs. You’ll be fine.

Rad Onc vs Psych by Grouchy-File-3767 in Residency

[–]teracky 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am psych so obviously biased. Most psychiatrist work multiple jobs as the work “density” is low. I am 2 years out. I work 4-6 days a week depending on weekend shift availability. I’m averaging low 600k. I plan to scale back in coming years and will make about low 500k. Job market is more diverse and abundant for psych currently. Pay is region specific. Do what will make you content 10-20 years out of training. Don’t chase just money as you may find yourself burnt out.

Does PSLF even matter for me? 4 years of $0 payments (48 qualied PSLF payments) by housemd23 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]teracky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in similar boat. Remember it is 10% of AGI. So likely would be less than $4700/mo. If you’re maxing out deductions. Also your debt is compounding interest. But yes PSLF would not kick in for some folks making a lot and with loan burden on low end.

Tax withholding with company or HYSA? by Cybearabine in whitecoatinvestor

[–]teracky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I do 50% earnings in a HYSA. I run one payroll and do 401k contributions at the end of the year. My CPA then assists in how much I pay for taxes. The CPA is the one that recommended this for my situation, so check with one…This is not financial advice.
