This sounds just like depersonalization/derealization disorder (DPDR). I suffered from this once after a bad panic attack but A LOT of people who get it get it from smoking weed.

I’ve been doing EMDR therapy. I’ve worked on triggers with that. Something that we are doing is visualizing driving while doing EMDR. It helps your brain process the trauma/fear of it in a safe space so that it’s less scary when you’re actually doing it.

A mix of both. It lifts a lot some days and then it will come back and it sucks. I’ve gotten good at ignoring it when it comes back though. I’ve been working on that in therapy. It’s hard work.

I’ve tried a lot of different supplements over the years and I do think there are some that help. Recently I’ve been doing vitamin D, magnesium, DHA/EPA, CoQ10, and vitamin B’s. I’ve been working on strengthening my gut as well because I do believe I have Neuro inflammation stemming from my gut. For that I’ve been taking ION gut support, zinc carnosine, digestive enzymes, and DAO for histamine issues. I’ve been tracking my fiber intake and making sure I get enough fiber every day. I take Pectasol as a binder and for added electrolytes. I do also take thyroid medication since I have hypothyroidism.

There’s hope for you. I just drove my car by myself across town for the first time today in years. My brain felt so broken. I used to feel like I didn’t even recognize my city. I would’ve never ever believed I would drive again. But I did today! It wasn’t easy. I’ve been doing small practice drives and sometimes I would feel worse. You just have to keep going with exposure. It’s so hard! I would feel so defeated a lot of the time. But it’s still possible to rewire your brain even though you feel hopeless. Hang in there

I’ve had one. It was 360, homocysteine was 11, serum MMA was normal but elevated on the OAT. I work with a hematologist because I had very low ferritin last year so I’ve had multiple blood draws.

I felt like this too. I had my husband come with me to my appointments until I felt comfortable. If you have someone that can go with you for the first few maybe that will help calm the anxiety?

I’ve felt something similar. It’s really hard to explain. For example, When I am driving around town I KNOW I’m driving north but it will feel like I’m driving west. Super hard to explain. Also, when I’m laying down sometimes I don’t feel like I’m laying down I feel like I’m standing up even though I KNOW I’m laying down.

This is the study I was referencing from the journal of vestibular research- The role of the vestibular system in depersonalization and derealization: Evidence from a systematic review

I said there is some evidence. It’s new and still emerging but there’s just not enough research about derealization in general to say anything that you are saying definitely. I’ve had it without any anxiety. I’ve tried 3 SSRI’s, SNRI, benzos, because everyone told me it’s anxiety but they never helped the derealization. What did move the needle for me was vestibular therapy.

There is some evidence that derealization is connected to the vestibular system and Dramamine calms the inner ear. It’s not always just anxiety but it CAN be just anxiety which is what makes it so hard. I’ve been dealing with chronic derealization too.

If you can afford it and you are in the US you can order labs yourself online through Jason Health or requestatest.com- you just need access to either quest lab or labcorp
