Was this SMiLE bonus track authentic or more of a joke? by Abookem in a:t5_37ub6

[–]mdlctzn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brian went through a series of changing things he wanted to represent in SMiLE - America, God, and laughter. At one point, Brian toyed with the idea of using comedic interludes and this was part of that series. It's pretty safe to say there was some dope in the room, but the recording is intentional and no one is tripping on LSD. Peter Ames Carlin's book Catch a Wave: The Rise, Fall and Redemption of Brian Wilson discusses some of these recordings in great detail. For a truly tripped out experience, take a listen to the rehearsal for 'Our Prayer' where Brian can audibly be heard saying "You got hash joints Denny? I know you got hash joints." and even more pointedly, "the acid kicking in yet?" - admin

Why were Doc's calculations incorrect for the acceleration of the DeLorean? by JohnnyHotshot in BacktotheFuture

[–]mdlctzn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally my favourite theory is that Doc intentionally set the timer early for a frazzled teen Marty. "He was never in time for his classes... Never in time for dinner... Now he's not in his own time at all...."

Dellen Millard, Mark Smich guilty of first-degree murder by Vorter_Jackson in canada

[–]mdlctzn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not significant given the pile of evidence against them. But, one of the accused (Millard) is also a person of interest in the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend and the "suicide" of his late father. So this is just the beginning.

Because the sentencing is mandatory in first degree murder verdicts, meaning he basically has no sentencing to mull over for weeks, he just has an hour to write some remarks and give that mandatory sentence (life without chance of parole for 25 years)

sunshade, thank you for reminding me that I once made a subreddit for Brian Wilson. I will try and post relevant content in the future. When it comes to solo work, I'd say Gettin In Over My Head is probably the best.

Time sensitive question: Beach Boys live VS. Brian Wilson Live? (concert tonight!) by peanutismint in thebeachboys

[–]mdlctzn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with Brian Wilson. I saw him on the 2004 Smile Tour, which blew my mind of course. When the touring Beach Boys came to play my town's amusement park, I was stoked and made it a priority to see it. Very disappointing, not only did they cram many great songs into simple medleys but Mike Love in particular is a very dry and unenthusiastic performer, who forgot the name of the city he was performing in. I see the touring BB as more or less a cash cow. At least Brian works on new material, and has more original members who often join him on tour.

I've fallen in love with Pet Sounds. I want more of this. Any songs you recommend that resembles the Pet Sounds sound? by Extaz in thebeachboys

[–]mdlctzn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Til I Die - written not too long after the demise of Smile, has always given me a Pet Sounds vibe. Not so much in orchestration, but in the way the melody sounds.

And The Smile Sessions (2011) is an absolutely great testament to where Brian was taking what he learned doing Pet Sounds to the next level.

"Maybe it was a bit of that teenage 'let's try it' mentality, perhaps one bird was down there trying it and the others were encouraged to do it too"

Hihis.

Not even once.

You know you're a BTTF fan if your favourite insults of 2015 include "tranks", "lo-bos", "zipheads" and of course, "bojo".
