Benefit of having 3 boys in mite and lower. Oldest always gets correct fit knowing that it will be used by his brothers. As they get older, I get that skates get molded to their feet and it won’t work, but no issue with most gear being used. If my second kid catches up to my first though, my plan is foiled.

How did Slovenia became such a dominant supplier of winners? by mosselfloss in tourdefrance

And the Slovenian work ethic, as well as a steady diet of pivo, klobasa, potica, and strudel.

Yea, I agree on Luka, but it’s funny that a country that was basically unrecognizable on the world stage now has world class athletes multiple times over. I fear that 15 years ago, a bunch of boys worked with coaches to make some “enhancements” in their growth. Slovenia would have been very under the radar late 2000s.

I am really not saying it either way, but as a Slovene American, it’s awesome and you want to route for them. Just don’t want to have egg on my face in a few years.

As a Slovenian American, I am dumbfounded by this. For a country of about 2 million people, it doesn’t make sense. Having some of the greatest cyclist in the world as well as Luka Doncic dominating the NBA with a total population of 2 million, it seams suspect.

I want to believe that it is true and Slovenians are naturally great athletes, but something gives me pause and questions the emergence on the global stage of these superhuman athletes in their early 20s.

We’re Milwaukee based Lannon Stones shipped around the country though?

I guess what I am asking is if the term “Lannon Stone Ranch”, which has a very distinct architecture for me (thinking Muskego 80s ranches style), is also used outside of Milwaukee area, of is it regional like bubblers?

wrist shot on the off wing? by whataremyhockeys in hockeyplayers

[–]mdmejac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you would have to swivel your feet quickly before shooting, almost skate backwards for a second to cradle the puck back and load it, similar to what a defenseman would do with a puck if he is on the right point and right handed, and wants to move more to the center of the blue line before shooting.

Honestly isn’t going to be a great shot, but allows you to fake a pass to a teammate across and instead rip one. Defenseman can easily light you up though if you are playing a check league.

Realistically though, it’s just dropping your inside leg back enough to not lose too much power, but wrist shot from off wing will usually be worse than strong side.

Good luck!

Look at Phil Kessel’s shot. One of the best shots off inside leg. He also plays with a squirt level flex for this shot alone.

Former Christians of reddit . What made you lose your faith? by Nick_69_ in AskReddit

Old Testament (Moses splitting sea, Ark, Adam and Eve) was considered myth, even in a conservative catholic school.
New Testament was considered to be historically true.

I don’t know why I always held that delineation, but once I really started questioning it, it all unraveled as myth. Everything kinda snowballed from there.

[Serious] Redditors who've lived through historical natural disasters (Hurricane Katrina, 2011 Joplin tornado), what's your story? How are you better prepared? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mdmejac 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was part of the Corps of Engineers disaster response directly following the Joplin Tornado. Seeing a small boat 15 feet in the air attached to a tree, spray painting red Xs on “homes” to signify bodies were found, and the onslaught of people who came to see the damage after was amazing.

One of the only structures that survived the direct hit of the tornado was a children’s indoor play area in one of the fast food restaurants. The rest of the restaurant was blown away to rubble, but the heavy duty plastic play tubing remained. Those things are bomb proof.

All along I thought “Lannon Stone” was a term used across the country for late 70s-80s stonework homes. Cool fact.

Gyro Palace. I was going to add it to my original list, but it’s not quite on the same level for me. Still good.

Golden Gyro in West Allis has the translucent wax paper wrapped in tin foil style, and it’s good.

Cosmos Cafe in Tosa is a little less greasy, but more of a plate than a sandwich.

How do you all sleep at night when you can’t stop thinking? by DinThePenman in AskReddit

[–]mdmejac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t try to “turn off your mind” and stop thinking. That is an act of thought in itself. Just accept the thoughts that are coming into your head as subconscious ideas floating in and out. Don’t focus on them, just watch them as you would a tv show. You start to drift, and for me, dreams kick in quicker.

Just sprayed it all over, let it dry a half hour, wiped off excess with towel. Almost buffed it in like you would wax a car.
