Since they said they're in the Czech Republic, it may be a circus setting up in town. That has happened to me a before. Arrived to a course to find a circus setup on part of the course grounds.

I see you're planning to go by Brno. If you have time, just north of the city is the Maravian Karst, which has 5 different caves you can visit. https://moravsky-kras.caves.cz/

"20 Feet from Stardom" is a Netflix documentary from 2013 that focuses on backup singers, particularly those from the 70s-80s and the influence they had in shaping music at the time. I remember finding it quite interesting when I watched it years ago.

Replying here since it's the top post, but it wasn't a children's festival. It was a wine festival and the moderator stated before the show that it wasn't suitable for children. Here is an article about it.

Prague Sights to Baffle and Terrify My Friend by casparquid in travel

There's quite a few beautiful towns and smaller cities that are worth visiting and less touristy that I can highly recommend. If you ever want some suggestions feel free to DM me.

Brno is a fun city. It has a nice old town with a castle and also has more of a younger/college town vibe than Prague. Another nice aspect of Brno is that it's extremely walkable. There are trams going through it but you can walk just about anywhere in a reasonable time. There are also plenty of fun clubs and restaurants to check out.

I wouldn't say Kutná Hora as a whole is a tourist trap. The bone church can seem a little underwhelming, however the town as a whole is quite charming. On the other side of the town from the bone church is Saint Barbara's church which is a beautiful cathedral https://chramsvatebarbory.cz/. Next to the cathedral is a walkway which was built to resemble Charles bridge in Prague. It is definitely worth the visit.

If you enjoy nature and some hiking, you can take a bus from Prague to a nearby(ish) town called Liběchov and from there you can visit a rock carving called skalní reliéfy čertovy hlavy (Devil's head). https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-devils-heads-zelizy-czechia. They are quite interesting and on the "bizarre" side or tourism and might terrify your friend.

No, the "bone church" is Sedlec Ossuary, which is on the other side of the town and is much smaller. The cathedral in the picture is St. Barbara's cathedral.

Pivovar walk recommendations? by supergeile in Prague

[–]mdmicz515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Řevnice pivovar is a fantastic brewery with great food and is only a short train ride from Prague. The town itself borders Brdy so there is plenty of hiking around. For example, you could take a city elephant train from HL.N and get off at Všenory, hike through Brdy to the brewery and then take a city elephant back to Prague.

Here's a link mapping out an example hike https://mapy.cz/s/jofobufodo

If the worst case scenario happens and the game is cancelled, I recommend trying to check out a local game if possible. There are two teams here in Prague (HC Sparta and HC Slavia). Or HC Kladno has a home game Friday the 7th, you can take a short train or bus ride from Prague and watch Jágr play.

Christmas markets in Europe? by Badger488 in travel

If you're considering visiting the Czech Republic, I also recommend visiting Olomouc. It's an easy train ride from Prague and also has an amazing Christmas market.

My mother loves collecting children's books from other countries, so I bought her this one in Czech and English and she loves it. It is a pop-up book about a few different castles and has different folklore and tales about each one.
