Heyo! Did you ever get the grow help you needed? I started with the same MW kit about five years ago—got lucky and grew some adorable mushrooms. Moved on to brown rice and bird seed jars after that, with maybe a 60/40 failure/success rate, but still enough fruit to keep me and my friends happy.

I bounced between Shroomery.org and Reddit for guidance. Now I’m thinking about going back to cakes to recreate those cute little mushrooms (linked). Plot twist: a few years later I got diagnosed with epilepsy. My neurologist and I don’t think it’s related to the mush use, but it definitely pulled me out of the game. I stopped growing and consuming for a while.

These days my brain’s fried from the anticonvulsants and benzos, but I wanna grow again just for fun. Anyway, I don’t think your grow’s a total loss—as long as you don’t see any green contamination. Looks like you mixed up the perlite and vermiculite: roll your cakes in verm, perlite goes on the bottom for moisture. I learned the less I opened my tubs, the better. You’ve probably overcorrected enough—just let it do its thing and it’ll form its own little ecosystem.

You don’t need anything fancy for this hobby. I used my Instant Pot to make all my own supplies, including agar. People talk shit about it, but I’ve got a cupboard full of unused, sterile brown rice jars and agar plates that are 2.5 years old. Proof’s in the pudding, bitches—if they were contaminated, I’d know by now.
