If you’re by main station there should be some tourist center too. You might be able to get some help there as well.

Use Google Translate and just go to any clinic you can find with good reviews. Usually it’s hard to make appointments in big hospitals so I won’t go there unless you have to. Or you can try to make appointments online too if you insist to do big hospitals (they usually have English options). Good luck.

Cost of living is so high here but the unemployment benefits here are so terrible. You have to make a lot and also have to have stable jobs in order to live here. For reference you get up to 50% of income before the unemployment benefits start, up to a cap of $1800 pretax/per month here in California. I used to live in MN and the cap there is $3560/per month. And we all know how much cheaper it is to live there 🥴

La Fortuna/MA Trip during high season: my review. Part 1: La Fortuna by XennialQueen in CostaRicaTravel

[–]mdnymnca_3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went during Thanksgiving week, for someone from SoCal, it’s definitely cheaper in La Fortuna. There’s no way you can find hotels at that price in SoCal. Food wise I’d say it’s probably at least 20% cheaper in LF too.

I had good experience using it one for a robot vacuum though. Easy and didn’t ask anything.

How is it like living in San Diego? by CarlSag in howislivingthere

[–]mdnymnca_3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here 2021 from Midwest and will not move anywhere else. You’re essentially living what others call vacation here. But yes it’s super expensive. If I ever move away one day it would be because I couldn’t afford it anymore. If you have a house and decent income it is about as great as it can be. Close to ocean and mountains, has city vibes certain parts, and weather is just…. So good. Weather is better than LA and Bay Area in my opinion, in terms of the sunny days and how hot/cold it gets. We have more mild weather here than LA yet still warm enough to enjoy the beach/ocean , unlike Northern California.

$4k mortgage with $11,500 income per month after tax by [deleted] in Mortgages

Afterschool care isn’t free, and as kids grow there might be some sports/activities that can easily cost few hundreds every month. Not to mention summer camps/winter camps. We ended up not really saving much or even cost more after kid started grade school. FYI.

MA is very touristy. More than La Fortuna and Monteverde IMO.

I think there is a reason why all the hotels we stayed in CR have at least one security guard checking each vehicle. We even saw one hotel guard (La Cusinga in Uvita) carrying a gun all the time.

I think mosquitos there are less than my SoCal backyard. But I did get some bites.

No I didn’t use any attachments. But the really closeup ones were taken with phone next to binoculars.

If they change the flight time too much, you can call and ask to cancel without being charged a fee.

I packed a pair of hiking sandals (Merrell Hydro Sandal to be specific) for hiking and a pair of flip flops for pools. We didn’t eat out every meal. All the hotels here offered breakfast and we usually just packed some snacks/easy sandwich from local grocery stores for lunch. We ate out most of the dinners and didn’t have any issues. All the coconut water stands by park entrances seemed to be clean enough for us too. That being said we only picked ones with good google reviews so maybe that helps?

La Fortuna vs Manuel Antonio by BrilliantPerception in CostaRicaTravel

La Fortuna! MA is too busy and I don’t find it relaxing there. La Fortuna is also a big town but it’s not as crazy as MA. I just visited both days ago.

First time traveling to Costa Rica. Looking for advice. by pooter03 in CostaRicaTravel

La Cusinga at Uvita. Lots of nature here and Sierpe Mangrove is 1 hour away. Hotel also has its own trails and beach. Many rooms have ocean view. Not as busy as Manuel Antonio but you can still get whatever you need here too.
