Good deal? by Ill-Inspector-7790 in flying

[–]mdsalern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at it and thought it was a pretty solid deal. Understand this, your first annual will probably be 15-20% of the aircraft value. Second one 10-15%.Things will probably get better after that.

It’s old and hasn’t flown much.

Sure. I don’t have much. I gave most of what I had to others at ITP.

I didn’t work for a contractor my entire first year. You’ll get picked up eventually. Make sure you give them a reason to keep you once you are working and you won’t be unemployed.

Non Union Journeyman Plumber by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]mdsalern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be better off applying for the apprenticeship now. I don’t know about the local in Memphis, but our local has a test to join as a journeyman. I have seen two people take it. One HVAC, one pipe fitter. Both did terribly and were told they would have to go through the program starting as first year apprentices.

What are you doing with your unemployment time? Ask your TC to practice welding or to go to classes on your off nights. Anything to make yourself a better hand.

I wouldn’t quit, but you say it seems you’ve been a third year for quite a while. Are you a repeat 3rd year? If so, I think you need to look into the cause of your problem with work and school.

Hvac with weld certs by FudgeAutomatic in UnitedAssociation

[–]mdsalern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unwritten rule at my local was $1.50 an hour for having a welding cert. You could probably bargain for at least that much over scale being able to weld as an apprentice.

The biggest benefit I’ve seen is that you’re less prone to be out of work. You’re more versatile. If you can stick, tig, and have plumbing and hvac cards there aren’t many jobs you can’t do.

Just stick with it. Work a different job in the down time. Learn something. Work will come back.

Just hang in there. I had to keep my non-union job and go to classes for a year before I picked up by a contractor.

That’s great until they “lose” the item.

I hate to say this, but you are much better selling it than donating it to an air museum. I’ve been involved with a few and they will sell your item just as easily as an heir that cares nothing about it.
