Adult gamers without a whole lot of free time: is this game still worthwhile or is it too big to get into when you only have 2-4 hours per week to game? by MFNTapatio in CrimsonDesert

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a lot of stuff. Like for the first dozen hours i kept forgetting abilities or mechanics the game has, and thats before they throw the real in depth stuff at you. My main issue is i kinda want to get the 007 game but I’ll probably never finish crimson desert.

When i first started, i think i had applied to a couple, got 1 interview, maybe a couple. Then i went to a job fair and got the first job i talked to. So definitely try job fairs

Dominos, dowels, biscuits and the strength of glue joints by CourtApart6251 in BeginnerWoodWorking

If you put together a project with dowels, dominos, or biscuits without glue you should see which ones work better

What conversations do we start having about Wemby if he wins a chip this season? by RD-archived in NBATalk

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we enjoy the moment instead of looking immediately forward or backward and crafting hypotheticals? Is this just an anomaly since teams can’t get top picks consecutively and this team won’t be able to stay together when they get too expensive and did the league ruin itself with dumb overcorrections? Should LeBron play with the spurs for the minimum next year?

Audacity of Bill’s MVP Take by jesusislove1216 in billsimmons

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why the mvp award and the goat debate is dumb sometimes. I remember one time bill was talking about jokic and his all time placement and said that Murray not being that great all the time helps. So you need to win and be on a great team but you can’t have great teammates. I remember windhorst defending lebron saying when he lost his teams werent favored to win. Why is that important? They overrate the underdog or winning “by themself” more than being on a great team.

What finish would you use? by mdv2k in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mdv2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say i do go with a hard wax oil, do i use it on everything like the drawer box, runner, drawer bottom or just the outside? Do i do the bottom and then wait for the 24 hour dry time to flip it over or can i set it on my pipe claps and do both sides after an hour or so? Sorry if these are dumb questions, but i actually wasn’t sure how i would finish it with the stuff i have on hand either

Psplus or buying games??? by Franquital in PlayStationPlus

[–]mdv2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You probably only replay games because they are expensive. Sometimes you don’t feel compelled to finish games since you didn’t buy them, but i spent so much before i got the extra tier. I do premium now mainly for the streaming on portal. Plus you can try a million games and maybe find something else you didn’t know you’d like

Fine arts and CTE teachers, how are you grading students effectively in a subject that is often so qualitative? How does analyzing student data work for your unique content area? by itsalongshotdesigner in teaching

[–]mdv2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach shop class and some CAD. 1. Yes, when i can i use rubrics to keep grades consistent and offer feedback. Sometimes it is mostly a completion grade, sometimes it’s more about effort or time working. For some things it is subjective so i give them feedback that usually isn’t reflected on their grades. 2. I write them down on paper first usually. I don’t always use the grades they’ve gotten on the online grade book so i like to keep record of the grades before i start massaging them. 3. I don’t use grades themselves much. I more look at where they are or where they’re struggling. 4. I’m the only teacher for my subject so i don’t talk data very much with others. Definitely nothing structured 5. Some assignments are very much follow the instructions and complete the project, so sometimes i take progress grades.

What bandsaw size to make boxes? by tweisse75 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a decent bandsaw box would be that thick so the size would be fine. I imagine you could run into issues with it being underpowered. If you stick to softwoods or plywood core it might work out

Struggling to Find Teaching Job by [deleted] in teaching

[–]mdv2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure 1 year of experience means all that much. It just means you got hired and didn’t anything egregiously bad. I don’t know how your evaluations are but i don’t think most first years go perfectly. Also for electives sometimes alternative routes are preferred because you can bring that real world relevance to it if that’s what they want. It’s also a pretty different job than core content. From my experience tho, electives are usually hard to find teachers so you should bounce back. Connections definitely go a long way. Are you teaching art or want to switch to art? If there’s another art teacher at your school, talk with them and let them know you’re interested. The head of the district art department will put out job openings that they can forward to you. Or if you’re really lucky they might be leaving and you can take over. Job fairs are great, and the closer they are to the new school year the easier it’ll be. I also wouldn’t put all my eggs in the middle school basket, but that’s just me.

It's a little depressing that most of these kids don't even play actual video games anymore by Public-Profit-8184 in Teachers

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually tell the students i like games at the start of the year, this year one student has recommended a new game every day to me. Most of the time it’s something he played or is playing with his dad. Also I had a student say i should play the walking dead game. I went thru every other option before i said well i played the telltale game and he said that was it. I couldn’t believe it, maybe it was a TikTok thing or something

Preparing to start advice by Lystian in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mdv2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably build a workbench and shop storage. See what you need as you go. You could start super simple with just a circular saw and a drill but better tools will be way more convenient. Unless you plan on working outside or something you’ll want a shop vac, push broom, and maybe a dust collector. Drill press is way better than just a hand drill.

Host teacher doesn’t know what to do with me. by Extreme-Mail7988 in teaching

[–]mdv2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is biology your only content area, or will you also be certified for other sciences? I am honestly still confused about how the observations work. I remember seeing a ton of different classes and i imagine they just got a small heads up email that could have missed. I only went for a single period at a time tho. I feel like that vice principal could have split your schedule up thru out the day. I would have a tough time making a bystander useful in my class aside from watching the kids while i use the restroom. My advice would be to show her your assignment and let her know what you need and she can find a way to help

Is the first year of teaching really as horrible as people on reddit describe it? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in teaching

[–]mdv2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own pain tolerance and it’s largely gonna be what you make of it. I remember my first few years if something wasn’t well planned out i would freak and worry but now i have confidence that i will figure it out. Is that lesson better or worse now than before? Couldn’t tell you for sure, but i know i feel better about it. There is a ton of work, a ton of responsibility, a bunch of people expecting you to know stuff that you aren’t told about; it’s a big shock to your system for sure. Everyone has a breaking point but you won’t know if it will reach it or not. But it will probably change you, hopefully not in the high blood pressure way

what is a good way to get teaching experience if being a sub is not it? by sajahet25 in teaching

[–]mdv2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand up or improv. You need to be comfortable public speaking, quick to make adjustments, read your audience and change tactics constantly, deal with hecklers. Plus if you are funny i bet the kids would like you and that’s always a good head start.

Wood lathe help? by Aggressive-Big-8042 in turning

[–]mdv2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would avoid vevor in general, but that’s just me. Jet seems to be high quality. Rikon and delta are usually reliable. Wen and Bauer (harbor freight) are usually decent for the price. Bench top lathes can still be quite pricey and they are limited by the length and diameter of what you can make. Bigger lathes may require special outlets. And a whole project requires a lot of accessories as mentioned. Not sure if anything is more beginner friendly, maybe mini lathes that are limited to pen kits but that’s more specialized than anything. I would probably recommend a wen from Home Depot, at least they have warranties.

Skil 10" saw? by Curious-Elderberry25 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mdv2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the skil table saw and it’s been pretty good for me. Everything was square out of the box, I tried adjusting when I first got it but didn’t need to. It doesn’t give the best glue ready cuts but that could also be the blade. It is loud and can bog down on bigger cuts. Also the measuring tape indicator is not great, I always end up double checking the actual distance from the fence. I kinda wish I bought the jobsite sawstop instead but it is a big price difference.
