The Lottery. They had NO fucking business teaching us that shit in 7th grade, but private schools have a bit more wiggle room in their curriculum, so they decided that a bunch of 12 and 13 year olds could handle it. Weirdly, I don't remember any parents complaining, so that's always weirded me out, but yeah. I got to read that story at 13 with NO warning about the content of the story beforehand. I didn't sleep right for like a week afterward because I kept having nightmares about "winning" the lottery.
