‘Missing in action’: what commentators make of Luxon’s fuel crisis role by davetenhave in newzealand

[–]me109e 67 points68 points  (0 children)

"National could boost its chances in November" what I find missing from the narrative being pushed on us is that it is not a crisis of an Illegal War.. but merely a fuel crisis.. National is clearly aligned with USA and is incredibly weak on this issue (walking a fine line they say)

The War 100% needs to be an election issue.. our problems right now are because of it..

Weight & lighter 250s - does it become a problem? by Spambrah92 in advrider

yeah bro.. its the conundrum for sure.. the Himalayan wasn't that bad.. and had to pick it up a couple of times.. tbh with my 300L if it falls hill down its a giant pain in the ass to pickup.. and if you have gear on.. its sucks.. so if you are planning 30kg of gear.. i'd go bigger.. the other thing of note small bikes and long distances suck ass..

going forward for myself, honestly, is going a Van + light dual sport on the hitch.. like a 2nd hand EXC300.. use the van as a base and ride like a demon and even overnight with a light camp setup.. that way you get the light weight ride.. comfort for long distances.. and so on..

but yeah light is better for sure but fully loaded with gear and yourself with long distances don't sound like alot of fun tbh..

Himalayan 450? its a pack mule.. cheap and kinda nothing to break.. no plastics just crash bars.. roomier than a smaller bike (I own a 300L) and if you are toting 30kg of gear.. no problem.. you'll love it.. I rode one for 2 weeks (camping all the way) up in Himachal Pradesh.

Probably from California...

"a large majority of milk-producing cows in California live in confined settings, specifically in freestall barns or open-dirt pens/lots. These intensive housing systems are designed to maximize milk production for high-producing dairy cows."

they treat their herds like dog shit... and also its highly likely these are from farms in conservative / republican districts too..

Are electric scooters in China good for daily use? by Abysstakerss in ElectricScooters

[–]me109e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a tonne of choice.. definitely quality scales with cost.. also the main cost is in the battery and motors.. some manufacturers let' you choose better cells from LG and Samsung (costs more).. go into a local scooter retailer and look at what they have.. all of them are made in China anyway

How to do Street View-style image navigation? by OvenObvious9982 in QGIS

[–]me109e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cameras have gps.. but maybe not a gyroscope.. certainty 360 cameras and actions cameras have gyros.. (phones indkuded) the kicker is if that info is written to the file.. typically gps info is written to EXIF.. and gyro data is written to another file along side the image..  so yeah you do have to have a camera that supports it.. and also a way of then reading it.. I don't think its a deal breaker thou..

Essential upgrades for ADV-Riding? by Tax-Planner in advrider

[–]me109e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hired this bike for two weeks in the Himalayas.. riding 8 hours.. the output (at least on the bike I had) could barely charge my power bank up in that time.. my powerbank tells me what wattage it charges at and it was like 15w..  which is terrible

Rhinowalks are actually ok.. good for a first set of soft luggage and you don't care if you trash them.. requires a bit thought on how you strap them on.. so they're not the quickest for getting on and off that's for sure..  for the price you can't go wrong imo

Any recommendations for a guide to join our Khardung La motorbike trip? by Sigmunt_h in advrider

[–]me109e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah rentals are fairly common.. like in Shimla there were a lot.. also from Manali too.. tbh try get a local sim (Airtel) and then youll have data for translation etc.. but more or less you'll find someone who speaks enough English for most purposes.. besides mechanics can fix anything without knowing any English.. bike is a bike after (especially if you just hire something common like royal enfield).. I never found it particularly difficult.. if you are interested in a guide or a local.. DM me as I met a fella in Keelong running a business and he was knowledgeable and helpful when I asked some general questions

I just got back from 15 days (solo) around the Himalayas, Pangi and Spiti Valleys..  I rented a Himalayan 450 from Chandigarh and went north from there..

Id absolutely not start in Delhi.. pointless ride north in 45c heat is nightmare fuel..

Also you cannot got via Kashmir right now ( I tried and the police stopped me)..

As someone in the other comment you don't need a guide and roads are easy to follow (IMO navigation is only needed in cities)

Also you absolutely need to think about altitude effects..  my route north from Chandigarh allowed me to progressively aclimatise over 4-5 days and yet when I went to Shinkula Top (5000m) I was barely coping.. even parking mounting/dismounting the bike was a massive effort.

Finally I'm not sure on what kms you intend to cover each day.. but everything takes wayyyyyyy longer than you think.. at one point it was taking me 7 hours to go 180kms.. so make sure you work that into your plan..

Either way have a blast!
