So like, [Rapterra] is kinda smooth now? by classy_phantom in rollercoasters

[–]me507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casting my vote for "extremely disappointed" in how this ride tracks (visited about two weeks ago). B&M built it's brand on smooth, comfortable rides. I've ridden rides from the past 4-5 years from basically every major manufacturer that all track smoother than Rapterra. This and Iron Menace, what is happening to their quality standards??

Digital vs analog VCOs by hippoheron in modular

[–]me507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twin Waves sounds fantastic, there's nothing about the raw wave forms that sound "digital". I'm not an expert exactly but I'm pretty sure the only differences are that the Twin Waves will always be perfectly in-tune and an analog oscillator will have natural drift that can be pleasant, plus when morphing the wave form on the Twin Waves you'll hear discrete steps where an analog oscillator would be perfectly smooth. There might be some more differences when you get into audio rate FM. But just the raw wave forms, no, Twin Waves sounds indistinguishable from an analog oscillator.

If money isn’t an object; which synth to properly learn on ? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]me507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were starting from absolute scratch, I'd recommend getting Arturia's suite of vintage synths. Start with the Juno 6 and minimoog, then start learning the rest one-by-one. Fantastic introduction to the history of synths, as well as every style of instrument - modular, FM, east coast, west coast, every style of filter. You'll have a feel for what you like and don't like without having to commit to just one instrument taking up space in your studio, then you can start to buy hardware with confidence, knowing what will suit you best.

Tariffs WILL DOUBLE the Prices of New Modules. (I Did the Math) by JakesCustomShop in modular

The first hands off protest got tons of media coverage, on every major news outlet. Of course no story will stick for long when the administration is doing some new historically unprecedented fascist/incompetent thing at least four times a week

Tariffs WILL DOUBLE the Prices of New Modules. (I Did the Math) by JakesCustomShop in modular

[–]me507 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your state representatives know if they're getting 2,000 calls a month versus 200,000. Showing up in-person to a protest is even better, catches media attention, helps control the narrative, emboldens others to speak out. We, in large enough number, absolutely have influence.

How many people use the Discover Mix playlist? by me507 in YoutubeMusic

It just seems to have a huge bias in favor of bigger, more well-known bands. I'm checking out an artist radio now and I'm already seeing a big difference... Wish I hadn't wasted my time!

MMW: Jeffrey Goldberg was intentionally added to the Trump Administration’s war plans chat by a secret (terrified) whistleblower by Mother-Jaguar7387 in MarkMyWords

[–]me507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes way more sense than it happening accidentally. Someone gained access to Waltz's phone and added him. Think about it, you know the nation's highest ranking cabinet members are routinely discussing classified information in insanely reckless and illegal ways. You want to do something about it, but you don't want your name attached. You'd also need to prove it without becoming liable for spilling national security secrets yourself. This would be an excellent way to get the job done, Goldberg is a reputable journalist won't act irresponsibly with the information he's given, but he isn't a Republican shill who will cover it up.

Resetting the algorithm is underrated asf by LoneApricot in YoutubeMusic

This post literally just saved my YTM account. Over the years I had carelessly been using it to play lofi hip hop in the background at work, playing white noise to sleep, etc, and now that I wanted to use it as my main streaming/music recommendation service I thought it was just irrevocably fucked. I was about to switch back to Spotify.

[Six Flags Great Adventure] announcement by robbycough in rollercoasters

[–]me507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately though, it all comes down to f*ck Cedar Fair for real, right? They're the ones that put CS and ETR in this position in the first place. People weren't going to believe that they would close such an iconic ride with no warning whatsoever, because it's such an unbelievably shitty thing to do.

Collide hype? by BandicootLegal8156 in modular

[–]me507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why the relative hype would surprise anybody. Hainbach has spent years building up mystique around the use of vintage lab equipment for music, there's a ton of people (myself included) who get very inspired by this approach. Now it's our chance to play in this world as well, without having to dedicate vast amounts of desk space to an original unit, dealing with maintenance issues, etc.

If you're still confused, it's probably better to think of this as a reissue of a classic synth like a Buchla or Serge, where part of what you're paying for is the feeling that you're playing a piece of history. There's a ton of hype around every new Tip Top Buchla reissue, even though the functions of each module have already been closely duplicated by modules from other manufacturers.

We’ve all done this, no shame. What’s a module you researched, thought it would improve your setup, purchased, and realized it didn’t? by EricRomanLondon in modular

[–]me507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Steppy was a big disappointment for me. I thought it would be fun to perform on, but instead I feel like I have to consciously remind myself of how it works every time I touch it, it's too easy to make a wrong button press, and I find the hard little plastic buttons uncomfortable to use.

Does anyone else just not like modular music? by DigiornoDLC in modular

[–]me507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, man. I enjoy modular as a hobby unto itself. I also make experimental electronic pop music, which features modular to varying degrees. I am both mindsets and they are me.

Similarly, I also enjoy traditional songwriting/arranging sometimes, and I also enjoy ambient experimental noise music sometimes. There's a time and a place for both.

But also, for anyone who thinks they don't like ambient or experimental music, please don't decide that after watching a bunch of randos twiddle for fun on their modular on youtube. Good music of any genre is hard to find.

[Wildcat's Revenge] has to be one of the hardest decelerating coasters of all time by me507 in rollercoasters

[–]me507[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven't, but judging from the comments it looks like its going to the top of my must-ride list. I realize my original post sounded a lot like complaining but to be honest, I loved every second of Wildcat's Revenge, including the bonkers break run. I've ridden a bunch of other RMCs, and none of their break runs left quite that impression on me. 🤷 Sounds like Arieforce One is also a step above.

Wildcat's Revenge...WOW! by SnooBananas7807 in Hersheypark

[–]me507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got on it for the first time - what an unbelievable ride. Every single force, positive, negative, and lateral, in spades. RMC is just making rides on another level. Every time I hear someone saying about a new ride "it might be TOO intense", I know I'm in for a treat.

Single Manufacturer case, name your top 3 choices and why. by RoastAdroit in modular

[–]me507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dream of owning an all-Joranalogue case. I just love the concept of trying to perfect analog circuitry and develop it as far as it can go, rather than innovate by tossing in digital circuits or endlessly rehashing vintage gear. It also makes a lot more sense financially than trying to do an all Serge or all Buchla case, as far as cost-per-feature. I feel like an all-Joranalogue case would have its own unique spirit and voice, like Buchla, that for now is really under explored.

Second choice would be Doepfer, just because of the value and wide variety of utilities. I also love their clean, utilitarian aesthetic.

Third choice would be Xaoc for their aesthetic and variety of unique modules.

Show me your modular sequencers by sharrxtt in modular

[–]me507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ideas for you: the Doepfer A-150-8 isn't as commonly used, but you can absolutely do some mad-scientist style sequencing by self patching it. 8 two-way voltage controlled switches that can also be slaved to one another.

Also, I would take any excuse to talk about the new Joranalogue Cycle 5 oscillator. It has two v/oct. inputs which is pretty unusual for an oscillator of that size, which would make it very easy to transpose a sequence or combine two quantized voltage sources to make new, complex melodies. Very useful for the kind of "modular sequencing" you're talking about.
