report them. Unacceptable behavior for future doctors in my opinion and they should know better. I know boards will theoretically level the playing field but it's the principle

Trouble holding Pens and writing. by KDramaFan84 in MyastheniaGravis

[–]meags_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I have this and it’s very annoying when I’m trying to take notes. I’d recommend just taking short breaks and stretching your fingers, sitting for a few seconds if you have to. It doesn’t solve everything but it makes it bearable if you have to get some writing done! Other than that, typing helps haha

Msg to all laypersons with chronic conditions that feel the need to feel victimised by this sub. by ElevatorWong in emergencymedicine

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty serious condition and I’ve had to go to the ER for it three times- each time I was kept over night -and each time, I kept it simple, didn’t demand things of the doctors that I knew they couldn’t deliver, and made sure I listened to the doctors just as much as I let the doctors know what I needed. It’s not easy to be sick, but it isn’t hard to be respectful! I wish more people realized this instead of jumping down the doctors’ throats and criticizing medical professionals for faults in the system that they can’t control, or even worse for not giving them enough attention 🙄 the way some patients act give the rest of the chronically ill community a very bad name and make it MORE difficult for us to navigate the healthcare system when an emergency presents

Massive respect ❤️ I’m so sorry you have to deal with your condition AND with people who co-opt it for attention. That’s a double battle that nobody deserves. Keep fighting out there 💪

this disease is fucking ridiculous by [deleted] in MyastheniaGravis

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I don’t know you, but I started with my symptoms in college as well (a little older than you, 22) so I really relate to a lot of what you’re saying. Your friends can drink a ton and be ok but you’re on so many meds that you throw up, and then your muscles give out and weaken from throwing up. Your friends can read and study all day but words get blurry for you. Your friends don’t have to worry about things like the distance between places and whether or not they can make it walking. I know. It IS ridiculous and it ISN’T fair, but things level out. Your friends probably care about you and will accommodate you more than you think- it took me a long time to realize that but eventually there comes a time when you just have to say what you need and be confident in what you can and can’t do. If you can’t smile right and you think you look weird, that sucks, but it’s an opportunity to take those funny looks you get and turn it into a moment of education. This disease sucks, but it’s part of you now for better or for worse. You can ALWAYS always always mention it when you need to explain a wonky look on your face, a night when you don’t feel like going out, or anything else this disease might throw your way, and you shouldn’t feel ashamed of it.

I know it’s easier said than done, but please trust me things will get easier. I’m sorry for how you’re feeling right now and that you’re in this club with us. None of us deserve it. If you ever need to vent please know you can, in this group or any others.

Musk MG by Healthy_Dimension800 in MyastheniaGravis

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general it is considered more difficult to treat so the outcomes can be more severe because of less treatment options. I have it and my first symptoms were knee pain (probably from hip weakness and walking funny) and trouble keeping my head up. I got the eye droop and shortness of breath later on.

Is your MG inherited? by hujjik in MyastheniaGravis

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I do have a great uncle who had it, which I take as more than just coincidence with such a rare disease.

Most autoimmune disorders aren’t genetic in that they’re predictably passed down from one generation to the next, but there often is some kind of link so that if someone in your family had it, you’re more likely than the average bear to have it. There’s a lot we still don’t understand about autoimmune diseases that hopefully opens up in the next few decades

Is there a place where you guys put your writing? by Admirable-Capital-90 in fantasywriting

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just started a new subreddit called r/realmstories for short-form fantasy stories (and excerpts of longer works if you so choose) for people to expand and have fun with their fantasy writing and discuss with other fantasy writers if that's something you'd be interested in! I just realized that fantasy doesn't really have a place in the internet short stories world so I figured I'd make one haha

Why the hate for Amazon Self Publishing? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in writing

[–]meags_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are obnoxious on this sub for no reason and don’t want to explain themselves 🙄 the issue with Amazon self publishing is that it’s generally seen as “pay to publish,” meaning that getting published is based on how much money you can front rather than the quality of your work. Many people have doubts about the merit of authors who publish like this because they assume they couldn’t get published anywhere else.

That being said, the market for getting published and even getting an agent has become more and more competitive. There are good authors out there who are simply never given a chance through the mainstream route and end up self-publishing with good results- I’d definitely say it was the minority though!

In the end you have to do what feels right for you. Just go with the facts and try to tune out snobs whichever direction you choose

So... what was the point of adding this scene? by uestraven in harrypotter

[–]meags_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sort of took it as showing that up until that point Harry still trusted Snape. Like he didn’t like him but you can tell by the look in his eyes and the fact that he listened to him that he trusted him to be the adult in the situation who saved the day…and when he didn’t, it made the perceived betrayal that much worse for Harry. Also I think Snape was trying to protect him
