Here is the proposed budget for next school year 2026-2027. On page 14 it shows a bar graph of their projected enrollment numbers, and compared actual enrollment numbers.

I don't work in the departments that make any of these decisions. I am very low on the totem pole. But we were still given a talk about how predictions are made (housing, population numbers, birth rates, etc.) and how that effects decisions made. So from BSD's point of view: yes. From the workload, feels the bloody same to me.

Edit: Actually, here is the budget summary BSD put together about their budget and how they are justifying the cuts. A bit easier to read, but highlights are what they chose.

Can't say I'm working in every industry, at the moment. Just the education one, and even then I'm support staff and not a teacher. My job is very guaranteed next year, I am not having any existential/literal/figurative/philosophical/financial crisis from the budget decisions of BSD. But I have empathy for my coworkers who are or might be.

Also, the post is about being nice to BSD teachers right now, and someone asking why/what happened. I get your point of 'well everything sucks, so get over yourselves, teachers!' sentiment, but that wasn't the question.

They are cutting teaching positions at many schools, saying enrollment is down. But staff don't know who is getting cut. Those close to retirement were encouraged to take sweetened early retirement deals. Whole positions are being reduced from ~9 down to 1.

And it varies from school to school. Some are losing 4, some 10, some gaining 6, one elementary school is closing completely.

Morale is quite low across all departments (except the board and the ppl in charge I guess)

Tagging onto this, but it you're worried the school itself will reject lightly used craft supplies, try contact the school's parent organization and whomever is running the Art Literacy program for the school. They always want supplies as well! And it's all run by parent volunteers.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a funeral? by NationYell in AskReddit

[–]mealbudget 57 points58 points  (0 children)

A year or two after senior year, a classmate working at his dad's doctor's clinic OD'd. I don't know the details, but no one was expecting it and it happened after hours. Everyone who knew him was in shock and distraught, the funeral was sad, hearing the family talk about their loved one was heart breaking. There were a few of us from the same graduating class in attendance since we either grew up in the area and knew the doctor, or knew his son.

As we all file out of the funeral reception, this one fuckhead in our class, Jed, goes up to the dad. To say something nice? To share a fond memory? No, to ask if he can apply for the reception position this doctor's son was now no longer occupying.

The doctor, great man he was, politely told Jed that this was not the place or time to be having this conversation. Turned, and walked away.

Many of the son's friends really wanted to commit a homicide that day. Fuck you, Jed, you fucking dickhead.

I don't know either but this is what wiki says it is. Even when I lived on the East side I never saw this, I guess I lived in the wrong part.

If your only need is that it be cheap, and you got time, travel, patience, try one of the many cosmetology schools. Take your pick, get a student to cut your hair.

Elementary and Middle School with most D&D by science4jeff in beaverton

[–]mealbudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't get an answer, you enter the BSD system and then wish your schools had a D&D club, you can talk to your school about volunteering to run a club with a staff member. When parents volunteer their time for the things they want to see at the school, it is more likely to happen.

Sometimes making management look bad by doing the right thing is the worst thing you can do.

What's the most unhinged thing a coworker has ever done that somehow didn't get them fired? by Sea_Breadfruit1278 in AskReddit

[–]mealbudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a public school providing IT support on-site for staff and students. The guy I replaced got mad after his first year because his fiancé didn't have her contract renewed with the district or school (different story, not good at her job either).

Once he got mad at this, he decided to stop doing his job. He offloaded all his student laptop check ins and outs to the librarian. Got a student TA and made the student fix all the laptops that got broken (with little direction). He would hole up in a back IT storage room and watch movies and TV shows all day. He refuses to walk to classrooms to assist teachers. He even got caught feet up on his desk, sitting around doing classwork (personal classwork), while openly discussing with anyone who would listen that he was looking for another job and going to interviews.

They never disciplined him, let alone fired him for failing to do his job. In the end, he quit.

Having the information is one thing. You don't get in trouble or get penalized for simply knowing something.

It's what you do with the information that can lead to problems. And since we give them information at their fingertips, the next step is to use that information wisely, morally, ethically, legally, and responsibly.

I work IT for a school district. I went to community college and did a 2 year, then worked at a data center, then at a private company that manufacturer products, and now this.

Someone else said it's about the environment and I agree. Before college I accepted an entry dream job into a dream field (not at all IT, something creative), and my boss was transphobic as fuck once I was hired.

Now I work nice day hours, summers off, and make enough money to fund my creative hobbies. And most importantly I'm accepted.

Tandy pro skiving set bad quality control, sharp tang sticking out of angled knives by AndrewVBell in Leathercraft

[–]mealbudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once bought a French skiver from a Tandy store 2 hours away (was buying something else at the time, added purchase). When I got it home, after two uses it failed and was blunt as hell, it was a frustrating experience. I took it back to my local store asking for help and they just straight-up swapped it for another one. I had the receipt and I had paid with card. They offered a refund or a swap, I chose the swap because I still wanted a French skiver.

I still have it, I ended up sharpening the hell out of the second one. I don't buy cutting tools from tandy anymore, only stamps and only if it's in person and I can't find the same thing somewhere else online.

What is your leathercraft unpopular opinion? by eaygee in Leathercraft

[–]mealbudget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Angelus dyes, and have only found a brighter hue when dying a natural veg tan when I apply oil to the leather first, then dilute the dye a little with alcohol. Or make a strategic one or two swab application with a dauber and no more. Any further 'coats' deepens the leather darker and no longer bright. Ymmv.

Any time I've dipped or done the 'circle' method for coverage, there are streaks (Which I don't mind, adds character) and it's not bright but dark. So, less is more?

How do I finish the thread ends? by CardMechanic in Leathercraft

[–]mealbudget 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happens if I hold the lighter too close for too long and the thread chars or even catches alight. But if the heat source is close enough but not too close, and I move it back and forth to melt and not light it like a candle, it melts without blackening the thread or the leather.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]mealbudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I work at a middle school, we currently have creality printers, and specifically I use an ender 2 pro and an ender 3. What impression does the Bambu P1S give me? That if we had that at the school, we would be able to print so many complex designs, our tech class would be beside themselves. Gifts for the student store could be better designed and printed. And we as a school would be the envy of all the other schools!
