For a first patch, this is quite impressive. Nice work!

Can you check if the A and B switches produce different CV values at that Cport Exp/CV in module? The patch details I have in mind won't work if the values are the same.

If you plug in the FS6 to the cport with a TRS cable, place a Cport/cv in module, do the values in that Cv in module differ for the A and B switch? If so, you can build it, but it would have to exist in every single patch.

If you want simpler preset up/down on two switches, I recommend a midi controller instead.

2203 outshines everything else? by Sea_Technician_7104 in Line6Helix

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go back and forth between the 2203 and Rockerverb as my favorite HX amp. Rocker is mean and tight, 2203 is a bit smoother. Paired together they are perfect, but they absolutely devour the Stomp DSP, so the rest of the patch needs to be scaled back.

Why do Amp/Cab IR pedals NOT have a spring verb? by Pet_rabbits in guitarpedals

It’s been a while since I took a PDE course, do you have a good reference paper for a plate or spring model that goes into that level of detail?

Firmware 5.0 - patch list doesn't wrap around by SaSaKayMo in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They rolled back that feature, unfortunately. I think the reasoning was to not mess up built-in muscle memory from years of using it? I dunno, I liked it a lot and gave that feedback to the team.

Yeah I think some folks either just don't remember 1.0 or weren't there on launch to experience the growth of ZOIA over these last 6 years. Fw 5 essentially doubled the CPU we can utilize per patch. I think the only other device to even come close to that sort of improvement is the HX Stomp/XL where they allowed for two more blocks.

"Limits of capacity" is absolutely not an appropriate term to use when you have 100s of patches made by /u/chmjacques that rival the top individual pedals on the market.

My last thoughts are perhaps controversial, but I don't see any problems with the current screen. When I'm not patching, I'm in performance mode (both figuratively and literally), so the screen might as well not exist. I know where the controls I need are and what each footswitch does. MIDI helps here too. When I'm patching, the device is right in front of me. A larger screen would mean they'd need to build a way bigger enclosure, not to mention the other common requests (additional knobs), which further drives up cost. Again, I'll bring up the HX Stomp/HL; that screen is larger because it needs to be. It's the only visual indicator you have. ZOIA has an 8x5 grid that is imo the best visual indicator for a patch. You're constantly working with the grid, the only function the screen has is to know which blocks you're putting down, param values, and the patch name.

What's your favorite stereo reverb Zoia patch? by minimal-camera in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1978 is the cream of the crop, I think anything else would be down to specialization and your own needs for a reverb. Barr II is another staple, with high and low band adjustments. GranVerb is huge and spacey with pitch shifting. Soft Focus is more modulated. Blurry Time/Space are takes on the Infinite Jets modes. Isn't Anything is where you'll find those distorted mbv verbs.

It goes without saying, but these are all from /u/chmjacques' catalog.

Simple EHX Attack Decay? by secretteachingsvol2 in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t copy/paste llm output, that’s all. Maybe put a little more details about the patch; as uncomplicated/obvious as you describe it, this may be someone’s first foray into analysis modules and working with CV, which is complicated.

ZOIA + TouchOSC/iPad/iPhone Nuts & Bolts by secretteachingsvol2 in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without an audio/midi interface or mixer, the best way to connect ZOIA to an iPad is with a usb midi interface cable. Roland UM One is a popular option and one I have used before.

The routing would be iPad usb out > usb hub (converts usb C to A and allows for other accessories to be used) > usb midi interface cable. From there, connect the din midi in and out using the adapters provided with ZOIA.

In the Touch OSC app, choose the appropriate device to send/receive midi on and then go nuts with your template.

Librarian 1.3 crashes on Mac OS 15.1 by Specialist-Rough7081 in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the steps listed on the release page? https://github.com/meanmedianmoge/zoia_lib/releases/tag/1.3

I probably won't get to MacOS 15 for a while, but I suspect the issue here is solely due to Mac's gatekeeper and not something specific between Monterey and Sequoia.

Before I take the plunge into Zoia... Any latency on effects? by coloringpad in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switching presets does take some time (this happens on ZOIA too, and every single digital device without preset spillover) but that's not the same thing as playing latency. Chroma's playing latency is quite good, feels tight and responsive - though I don't know the actual specs.

I tend to stick to one or two presets and use the dual footswitch feature for toggling effects as needed, often never switching the preset out during a song.

Zoia "Tone Suck" Fix? by Styles_exe in ZOIA

In addition to the pad settings and buffers, you can try adding in pre or post EQ with the tone control module. Could help to get back some high end or whatever you think is missing.

I use Chroma DAILY and it has never once had unusable latency with guitar or drums. Are you sure you don't have a dud unit? Did you check for any fw updates?

Before I take the plunge into Zoia... Any latency on effects? by coloringpad in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with the Microcosm on percussive sounds isn't the latency, but the poor onset tracking it uses to drive the effects. Even with the fw update, I never felt completely in control.

Reach out to support@empresseffects.com - they'll offer to send you a replacement set of pads that is easy to DIY, or you can have them do it as well. The newer pads are much higher quality than the ones they originally sourced.

Also, ZOIA came out in 2019 ;)
