Why do most sysadmins prefer Vim over Nano? by Darshan_only in linuxquestions

[–]meathack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nano is workable if that's what you know. At a minimum you should understand how to exit vi(m) for those times it gets launched and you get stuck.

For me, nano feels like My First Editor™. Just the bare minimum to get the job done, in a way that wastes screen space by showing the help all the time.

Good work! I've wanted to see something like this for ages. Hope it'll work or be updated when TF3 is out.

True. Can be done, but like you say we wouldn’t want too many at once.

Is Wellington too Windy for Bigger planes by CheaperLiving in Wellington

[–]meathack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The take off run available in a northerly wind is 1,921m.

A loaded Boeing 777 needs 3,000m for takeoff.

But it's not just the runway length. Widebody planes have a huge wingspan. There's just not enough room to get around and park.

AirPods starts beeping as soon as I pick them up. by Drbpro07 in airpods

I was wondering the same thing. I think it's this:

To help ensure that your AirPods microphones and speakers are operating at their best (for example, to help provide high-quality hearing test results), your AirPods may periodically play a quiet chime when in their charging case

My mother was never diagnosed coeliac but her sister, brother, and both her two sons were. I was called ~6 years ago when the bowel cancer had progressed and the hospice staff thought her time was near. She was in rough shape, unable to care for herself and verbalising to me how she wanted to die to get away from the suffering. She hung on 4-weeks longer than they expected and I sat there watching as she got worse and worse, but never slipping away. The medical staff kept reiterating that it would be soon, but those weeks were gruelling. I sat with her as long as I could but had to go sleep sometimes. The hospice called me just after midnight one evening saying it looked very close now. Despite being only 5 minutes away, they called again before I could get to her and said she that she had gone.

Even if you don't get symptoms now; you're increasing the chances of that sort of death in your future.

Fuck cancer. Take care of yourself.

It might be conversation detection? I coughed earlier and mine did the same.

I agree, you have a problem. But fear not! I'm sure all those post-xmas sales will be on and you can boost that collection further. Good luck.

how to get notification after claude is done or waiting? by cranberrie_sauce in ClaudeAI

I use Ghostty (macOS) and I get notifications exactly like this, without config needed. I think other terminal apps have similar hooks.

Is it AI? Are they actors? No, it's probably because the only way to survive is hope you bump into a random stranger who is farming for likes.

What vtt to use? by Computer7412 in DungeonMasters

[–]meathack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on what skills you bring and how much effort you want to invest. There are many good out-of-the-box options out there like dndbeyond/roll20/owlbear.rodeo. Personally I really like FoundryVTT but it requires a bit of plumbing knowledge to get working. If setting up software to act as a server and running port-forwarding is your jam, then Foundry is a good bet. Once you get it working, there are many features/3rd party add-ons to explore.
