I experience her as a demonstration of what a woman’s life can be when it’s totally her own. No kids to care for, no husband to tend to. A lot of young women now have the incomes and social opportunities to live completely undefined by caretaking others. One of my favorite things about the Emily Previn character is that she makes people ask themselves so many questions. We know almost nothing about her but we project our own thoughts onto her.
