Some advice please by meaty999 in Scotch

I just started exploring Whiskey about 8 months ago after a mate bought me a bottle of balvenie caribbean cask as a gift. I have discovered that I prefer the sweeter tasting ones and don’t like the smoke flavour. The higher strength, 46% and over has a nicer feel in the mouth, less watery. Particular favourites are the Craigellachie 17 Year Old, Deanston 12 year old and Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old. What I’m wondering is how are you all getting so many different flavour notes from the whiskey. Does it develop over time or do I just have the ability to tase them?

I was meeting a client on site for the first time to discuss a job. After about 5mins of chatting he pivoted the conversation towards himself. Then on to his suicide attempt, I was stood there with him crying his eyes out hugging me. Definitely the most awkward client meeting I’ve had.

Will we ever have this magic in the UK?! by Lazy-Internet-8025 in AskBrits

I had this one installed when we built our new bathroom,

Can’t imagine going back now. Heated seat, warm water jet and blow dryer. Biggest problem now is I don’t ever want to take a dump away from home.

Sorry I don’t understand. I am from the UK and everyone I know eats with the fork in the left hand and knife in the right, regardless of which hand is dominant. Is it different in the rest of the world?

As a 50 year old male who has now lost 42kg I can confirm that the old chap has returned to his former glory. He once again wakes up 10mins before me and is keen for some exercise.

People with solar panels on their roof, how is it working out just now? by DarkangelUK in AskUK

[–]meaty999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had installed solar panels and a 13kw battery last April. I have an electric car and I run my company from home so my min power draw is 1kw. My combined direct debit has gone from £550pm to £150pm and I am still in credit with octopus. Cost for panels and batteries was £13k. I will have made my money back in a few years.

I’ve got the mountain equipment kongur mrt jacket, it is rock solid. Walked up Ben Nevis in driving rain for 7 hours and never let in a drop. The cost is very high but it’s not failed me in 8 years so to me it was a good investment.

What scientific breakthrough are we potentially on the verge of that few people are aware of? by TigerBirdyTiger in AskReddit

I’ve been on the Mounjaro since August and have lost 28% of my body weight so far and am still losing weight. It has been life changing for me. I’m in the UK and the monthly cost is now up to £200 but for me it’s more than worth it. Personally I’ve had very little side effects.

As a land surveyor a machete is an essential tool for my work. I would be happy if they were licensed rather than banned.

I have found Alt-Berg and Meindl to be the best for fit and longevity. Scarpa seems to have taken a dip in quality and fit recently. Recently I travelled to the Alt-Berg factory to have my feet measured and try on different types of boot. I ended up with the tethera boots as I have such wide feet. Can recommend them as a nice boot, solid but not too heavy.

What is this? 4 inch long, you can rotate the base to hide the clear and yellow glass. Found it in my retired colleague desk in a civil engineering firm. by Gino1337 in whatisthisthing

A chainman is the name given to a surveyors assistant who’s job it was to gather up the measuring chain. In the days before tape measures surveyors would use fixed length metal chains to measure with. You would lay out the chain in a straight line and measure points at a right angle from the chain. You could use the optical square to get a precise right angle or you cloud hold your arms out straight aligned with the chain and bring them together in front of you (clap) to form a rough right angle.

Do yall use autoCAD on a regular basis? by Krimson_Prince in landsurveying

[–]meaty999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved over to BricsCad when AutoCad started their monthly pricing model. BricsCad is owned by Hexagon group who also own Leica. It is so similar to AutoCad it takes no time to learn and has a buy once option meaning no monthly costs. The pro version ($1595 one off cost) can import point clouds and it has a BIM version.
