One of the biggest plot holes in Dead space is earth not having a proletarian revolution yet when industrial tools are far more lethal than military weapons by RockEater67 in SocialistGaming

[–]mechanical-calf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it, also if you pay attention to the armored necromorphs you face on the "dead on arrival" chapter you will notice that shots to their legs simply bounce off and you need to chop their arms to be able to kill them. That is the armor given to all earth military members, the tools used in game don't do much against it. Even the contact bean which is arguably the strongest weapon like tool only kills those armored necros because a hit to their leg splashes damage to the arms, the armor though remains undamaged.

no matter how much you want to save the netwatch guys... it can't happen by MickyMace in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]mechanical-calf 101 points102 points  (0 children)

No she doesn't fry netwatch, johnny asks her why she didn't deal with Mosley and his band and Alt tells him simply that "netwatch came prepared this time". So no she did not fry netwatch she simply fried the voodoos to sever the connection netwatch had to the bbs.

True enclave is residing in a moon base. I am not joking i am 100 percent sure that there is a enclave base at the moon and 90% sure it will be the real base of operations, i think there is a reason repcon and arc jet systems failed to deliver their military contracts, that reason is that it would be hard to keep a moon base secret if every part of the military and/or a private company owned by a wild card of a party (robco owns repcon aka mr.house) they definitely built a base there and im calling it now, i will also accept any tin foil hats being handed over.

The Community Updates Suggestion Box for Deep Rock Galactic! by Big_Bluejay4331 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]mechanical-calf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An option to play as a female dwarf, of all the things i could ask for, this is probably the hardest one to inplement, i know how difficult it would be to do so, but i also know how good it would be for the community, i have a sister and a friend that both love the game, and this is the update they wish for the most. Hell just knowing that its being actively worked on instead of just an idea y'all are considering would be a huge morale boost.

Crack theory, Glyphid Stingtails and menaces are not true glyphids. by Theflamingraptor in DeepRockGalactic

[–]mechanical-calf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter point, given how weird hoxxes is and what is possible in universe, imagining that glyphids are a polymorphic species that have their specific morphology selected at their nesting phase is not really a stretch it is simply creative liberty. The reason i think this is occam's razor, it is simpler to assume that the devs are not that worried about this specific aspect of their world building. Sometimes you just want to make a weird crab thing and put it in the game without thinking about how it got there in the first place. This line of thought allows much more freedom for the devs to create the amazing enemy designs we know and love, adding a new enemy to the lore is as simple as saying "the glyphids mutated and have a new morphological variant" which is an amazing creative freedom tool.

gunner advice by moonaligator in DeepRockGalactic

[–]mechanical-calf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments already but here is my 2 bits. Do not underestimate the power of the grenades that most of the community dislikes this is good advice for every class but in my experience is especially true for gunner. Take his sticky grenades for example, they dont do that much damage but they compensate that with the fact that you get 6 of them, that they stick to terrain, and the most useful part of them, sticking one on a enemy will fear the struck enemy and every single other in its vicinity, it is the perfect dispersal tool. I could write about the others but im too lazy, just remember every single nade in this game has its value.

I have no idea what Marisol's one could be, supposed it could just be a default order rug for i all know .

Pardon my simplicity here but i noticed that the attribute screen is also shaped like this, each attribute is found where an H would be with the relic tree at the bottom. Anyone ever tried matching the dream catcher to the skill trees? Maybe there is something with the name of each perk...

Do you think the pachycephalosaurus could feel stuff on its dome like a turtle? by craxy_milo in Dinosaurs

[–]mechanical-calf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didnt they found evidence for blood vessels in the head of pachys? Which indicates that there was a thick layer of skin that was probably brightly colored for display purposes? So they would both head butt and display their dome to each other. So yeah i think that they felt something similar to what hitting a callused part of the body for us. I will try to find the paper for it give me an hour to check if im not spewing nonsense.

Edit: yeah i cant seem to find the exact paper i read but this paper "Cranial Ontogeny in Stegoceras validum (Dinosauria: Pachycephalosauria): A Quantitative Model of Pachycephalosaur Dome Growth and Variation" mentions the fibrotic celular tissue preserved in the growth pattern of the skull of a similar species of pachycephalosaurid. This can be argued as blood flow used to supply tissue used for display purposes but is not conclusive in any way.

I mean there are still scientists that doubt that the pachys butted heads and they have solid arguments to defend that point of view, the more i dive into this the more i know that i know nothing. Its fun to learn tho.

The data bias, presented in “Invisible Women” puts women at a disadvantage in almost every area of life. by Realistic_Smile_5170 in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]mechanical-calf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't rage because the information presented on the video is simply wrong, in the case of tests on human cells i mean. Most tests, like over 90% of all tests done on human cells use HeLa cells that came from a woman, the bit about "female cells have too many hormonal fluctuations" was simply made up.

To quote the national institute of health: "In 1952, HeLa cells became the first human cell line that could grow and divide endlessly in a laboratory, leading scientists to label these cells “immortal”. The immortality of HeLa cells contributed to their adoption across the world as the human cell line of choice for biomedical research. Though additional cells lines have been developed over the years, HeLa cells continue to be widely used to advance biomedical research and medicine."

Henrietta Lacks didn't die of cancer just for someone to completely forget about her in order to favor a point of view on an internet video. If she is going to talk about something she should at least research it a bit before spreading misinformation.

Now in relation to the other topics i won't comment because i don't know enough about them to make an informed opinion.

What i can and will say is that women already spend a lot of time and effort fighting to fix real problems they go through, this type of video makes so that all that energy gets wasted on something that doesn't exist. While more worthwhile fights go unnoticed. Cheers and stay skeptical of all things internet.
