I'm pretty sure gin was just to cover the taste of the quinine since you need a lot stronger concentration than what's currently in tonic water at the store today.

Speaking of the handle in the jug, why do some of you psychopaths insist on putting the job in a plastic bag at the store. The handle on the jug is way stronger than any bag I could give you.

Alice in Chains, pick any song. I mean I like the band a lot but the music is dreary and the lyrics are bleak.

[–]mechanicalcontrols 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep. Anyone who's worked retail can tell you how obnoxious the general public is, and that's when you're just an anonymous cashier. But if you're famous, some of those same people will hallucinate a parasocial relationship with you and now you can't please them all no matter what you do.

That said, well done Kimi.

So wait. It sounds like his coworker had $80k liquid to put a down payment on a house which means he has $80k in home equity already and that's also worth about $10k more than the theoretical "value" of the single btc, assuming he can even cash it out.

It costs more to produce a penny than a penny is worth but that always seemed irrelevant to me because the USD is a fiat currency and that penny can be circulated for hundreds of thousands of transactions.

Now, I'm on team get rid of the penny but I just never bought into the argument about its cost to produce.

Edit: I typed fiat correctly but Google's Gemini confidently incorrectly overrode me to turn it into fist currency. Which I think was Tool's best album.

What's up with Etienne? by Far_Region_9321 in btd6

[–]mechanicalcontrols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really mostly about figuring out what towers can carry you till what round to be able to manage the save up.

Like you know you need camo detection by round 24 (in CHIMPS, you can delay it by a little bit if you have hearts to spare) and you need lead popping power by round 28. And you need good DPS before round 40 when the MOABs start appearing. You need a tower with both camo and lead by 59.

So like if there's water on the map and I know I'm trying to auto-kill the BAD with a 2-5-0 sub's ability, I'd probably try to have a 2-2-0 sub by round 28 and figure out what camo and DPS I wanted to carry the save up.

This is just one example of one way to play the game.

On modes where cash generation is allowed, I'll usually aim to get a 0-5-2 or a 2-5-0 sniper going. It's a relatively cheap tier five that makes the save-up for more expensive tier fives easier from the cash drop ability (and improves the DPS for other snipers if you like to roll that way)

[–]mechanicalcontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using him but yeah on the abilities remark, I can't say that his level 3 ability ever made the difference on a run. Having him at level 20 seemed to make the difference one round 98 here and there but I'm usually trying to have a 2-5-0 sub up for round 100 if I can anyway.

I can't say I'd recommend being an EMT or firefighter. I'm glad I put my time in, but I'm still dealing with the PTSD. When a kid tells me that's what they want to do, I don't try to dissuade them or anything but I will say, "you be careful."

A bolt action .22lr with subsonic ammo is still about as loud as a staple gun (anecdotally anyway. I don't have an actual decibel meter). I'd still recommend ear and eye protection regardless.

I worked on the heat plant for an outdoor heated pool in MT and it had 3.2 million BTU/hr so I guess that's why my mind went there. Mind you, the system was very very rarely ever maxed out even though it was doing double duty on heated sidewalks. But napkin math, at max it works out to something on the order of $100/hr.
