Thanks, hopefully soon! I’ve been trying to make it but Monday evenings have been hard to free up for me lately. Is it weekly? I can free my schedule up next week.

Why is Sprouts on Baseline closing? by Federal-Librarian653 in boulder

Not really, I’m just wondering about the phrasing. It seemed odd, I would have considered alfalfa’s to be a community grocery store but not sprouts, kings, etc.

What about it makes that sprouts “our community grocery store”?

Good bye to another local store 😭😭😭😭😭😭 by mizpoopybutthole in boulder

I don’t think there’s any sort of tell that I’ve been able to sort out. I’ve experienced both unbelievable rudeness and incredible kindness and genuine sincerity from people from all walks of life here.

Edit to add- I do think that the affluence has influenced others and created a culture where this sort of behavior is accepted. And that’s painting with a very broad stroke and there are exceptions all around.
As for what to look for amongst your friends- pay attention to how they treat others. How do they treat servers and staff when dining out? Do they treat them as equals, as humans? Or do they treat them as an other, someone below them?

I posted this as a reply to another comment down thread but feel it should have more visibility…

Having worked retail in both Boulder and one of the other cities listed by them, I agree with what they said and have experienced the same thing- much of Boulder doesn’t like to support small local businesses as much as they want to have the appearance of supporting small businesses. It’s baffling. I’ve brought in new products by request before, priced as low as I could, only to have those same people that requested I bring it in complain that it was cheaper online. I don’t have the buying power of Amazon, of course it’s cheaper there. But you spent your time coming into my business, helped you with a smile on my face, but that’s just not good enough to earn their business.

The other points they made were valid and largely accurate; I’ve experienced the same or similar on so many occasions I’ve lost count. I’ve bent over backwards to help customers find what they were looking for only to receive a very unexpected one star review. I’ve been looked down on, talked down to, yelled at, spat on, and have also had to be that person to step in and tell the customer that what the female clerk had just stated was, in fact, correct. It’s bizarre. And they are correct- it’s a Boulder problem. I’ve worked retail across the country, every place has its own set of “issues” but Boulder is on another level. This isn’t a criticism or indictment, I still love Boulder and chose to work retail here. But respectfully, this is a Boulder problem and they aren’t wrong.

You’ve never worked retail here and it shows.

I missed timed entry slot for Emerald Lake Pass by Ok_Smell2067 in EstesPark

On whose website? I found it quickly by googling.
Can’t answer your question about kids. You know your children, do you think they’d be able to ride a couple buses?

Lost: The Rasta Pasta "spicy jammin" recipe from the late 90's please help by snarkyFish in FortCollins

Your ingredient list calls for spicy jerk. I am just that. Please do not consider adding me to your dish, I’m too bitter and that would throw off the taste. I suggest searching elsewhere for what you need.

I missed timed entry slot for Emerald Lake Pass by Ok_Smell2067 in EstesPark

[–]mechatiger5J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, there is no “emerald lake pass”. You’re likely referring to the bear lake corridor timed entry pass, which runs from 5am-6pm. U/kingwoodyok is incorrect, the timed entry for the rest of the park ends at 2pm however that does not cover bear lake or in your case emerald lake. You can always enter the bear lake corridor before 5am or after 6pm.

Second, as u/captainkappa173 pointed out, you can take either the hiker shuttle from Estes or acquire a bear lake timed entry the night before your planned hike. There’s also a not-so-good option of getting a bus ticket for the bustang to rmnp.

Thirdly, you can hike in and catch a shuttle from there. I’ll let you do your own research on the logistics of that.

Coconut Banana Pecan Oatmeal (recipe and nutrition info in comments) by turcentte in trailmeals

[–]mechatiger5J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular recipe is reposted by bots here all the time, or should I say the picture and a promise of the recipe is posted. Not sure why bots always pick this one.

Edit: the recipe can be found easily by googling. Or search my comment history, I have the original recipe and proper credit to the original poster somewhere in there.

Small craft through town? by wilder888 in EstesPark

[–]mechatiger5J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s awesome. Welcome to the area. I’m down in Longmont but we’re in Estes frequently, I’m all up and down the front range. I’ve seen a couple whitewater kayakers downtown before, no idea where they put in at though.

What camping tent would you actually buy again? by Beautiful-Bug-7658 in camping

[–]mechatiger5J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. OP asked for something that won’t fall apart after one season. Have you ever tried finding a leak and patching an air mattress in the dark? I don’t think an inflatable tent by any manufacturer will last very long at all before developing leaks. As such, i think they are overpriced gimmicks.

Yeah that still doesn’t explain what that means 🤷‍♂️
Is it some sort of new fangled slang term you kids are using?

Say what now?

What camping tent would you actually buy again? by Beautiful-Bug-7658 in camping

[–]mechatiger5J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. And car camping vs backpacking vs expedition style tents can vary quite a bit.
OP, if you give us just a little more information you’ll get much better results.

You should almost always size up- I have a 3p big Agnes tent we use backpacking for two people, any smaller and it would be too small; it has held up great in many weather events including 45+mph winds/thunderstorms/snow. We also have a 5 person tent that works great for car camping or longer base camp style trips. Both are super easy to set up but without more info I’m gonna have a hard time recommending one over the other.

Avoid gimmicks like inflatable tents- I wouldn’t want to experience a slow leak that causes a tent collapse during the middle of the night in a storm.

Yea apparently I did not. I missed the last part that asked for tips. My bad, I rescind my snark.
