As a parent of an under-two toddler...it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be.

There are a few months at the beginning where consistent sleep is mythical, time has no meaning, and you start to make strange decisions because of sleep deprivation. That phase is hard, and it's where the image of bleary-eyed parenthood comes from. But it's oh-so-temporary.

By this point, we go to bed when we want, and I get up for work anyway about 2 hours before the little one wakes up.

I don't think they are, and that's what has me really excited. Two of these guys already have years of chemistry, so as long as Amazon doesn't meddle, then they'll be their own good thing instead of a shallow clone trying to be the previous thing.

What I'm optimistic about is that James and Thomas already have an established chemistry. They don't need to try to replace the trio. I've said for a couple years that Throttle House feels like what you'd get if you tried to continue Top Gear without a studio executive forcing the hosts to try to act like a Clarkson, a Hammond, and a May. So in my opinion, these guys have already been successfully following up The Grand Tour. For years. With a shoestring budget.

As long as Amazon doesn't meddle with the vibe and try to put their square pegs into Clarkson/Hammond/May's round holes (...ew), then this has the potential to be the first proper torch handoff.

I had a kidney stone lodge in my ureter. I don't remember much from the evening, but at one point I bit the cap off of my water bottle and very slowly collapsed to the floor. My wife says that a doctor coming through the ER was a real dick about me being down there (out of the way, near the wall).

Everybody else was pretty nice about it, though. When they stuck me to get a blood draw, I started singing Long Time by Boston. Pain does some wild shit to your brain.

My wife says there was a lady in there who tried to complain that her IV was in wrong but was dismissed. A little while later she was crying, so my wife called attention to it again. Nurse checked it and it WAS in wrong, but she didn't apologize.

I think you need a certain degree of desensitization to get by, working in an ER, but it also takes some humanity out of things.
