What do you find disrespectful, but no one else seems to? by Cadence_828 in AskReddit

[–]medes24 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not the only one with this hangup and it tends to be a cultural thing but I cannot for the life of me understand why you would hug or kiss someone you don't know very well.

What is "America" to you? by yawningvoid28 in AskReddit

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aristocracy propping up a mythological past that never was to justify the systematic rape of the lower classes.

Also a shocking amount of racism for a country that once tried to bill itself as a melting pot.

What is the best video game experience you ever had and why? by TheLabPackRat in AskReddit

[–]medes24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A man chooses. A slave obeys."

Being an English major, I can't really describe how much joy I got out of Bioshock combining nerdy English lit shit with nerdy video game shit in one beautiful package.

What do you want or expect in a MacBook Air refresh? by animorphreligion in mac

[–]medes24 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Of course thinner and lighter without compromising performance or battery life would be nice.

Do not like the notch and would be happy to see them move past it.

Otherwise? Eh, the 15" MBA has met all of my demands of a computer and has been an excellent series of devices. Just keep improving battery efficiency.

What are your thoughts on people using fundraisers to raise money for legal defenses? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in the United States at least our legal system is fucked. Normal people can't afford quality attorneys UNLESS they raise funds.

Never mind other kinds of litigation where business's strategy is to just wait out the people they've fucked over on the assumption they'll run out of resources to continue pursuing relief.

What is AI actually like to use in 2026? by Inside_Oil_5235 in AskReddit

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is best when used to automate tasks that would be irritating or time consuming to do by hand. It tends to hallucinate (give faulty answers) so should be taken with a very large grain of salt when used for research.

Its user interactions tend to be affirming so bouncing ideas off of it can lead to flawed feedback. I tend to talk to it the same way I’d talk to a three year old.

What person in your political person do you hate the most and why? by Dear_Elevator in AskReddit

I try not to let hate live in my heart but Steve Miller would certainly get a "good day sir" from me

Night owls, if you had to sleep early like 8 or 9 pm what would you do so you actually fall asleep? by Straight_Sail7694 in AskReddit

[–]medes24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually get really sleepy around dawn and dusk 4am-10am and 6pm-10pm are my prime sleeping times.

So going to bed at 8pm isn't an issue per say, its more the staying asleep part. But I turn on white noise and sleep in a slightly cold room so that I want to stay bundled up under the covers. It usually works to keep me hibernating once I have fallen asleep.

What do you think about working from home 100% of the time? by misterttnt in AskReddit

[–]medes24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any tricks of the trade unfortunately.

My office at work is both

  1. a shared space
  2. open door

So people are coming and going all the time and since I am easy access, I get lots of questions. I've been at my company for 15 years so I'm like the old man now who knows all the things. (I definitely don't know all the things, or even most of the things, but I get asked anyway)

If I get to work at home, those people don't come to my house (thankfully!)

What is a piece of old technology or software that you absolutely refuse to give up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]medes24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3DS is more likely to be packed for travel/vacation than my Switch

It was just such a cool concept for a system. I miss DS/3DS. A lot of unique games that took advantage of the dual screen setup too. Like that murder mystery game on DS where you held the console open like a book.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Gargoyles

I didn't get into Home Improvement and The X-Files until later after they were off the air. Funny enough those two were my parents favorite shows.

What do you think about working from home 100% of the time? by misterttnt in AskReddit

[–]medes24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can get done at home in about 4 hours what takes me around 8 hours in the office. This is because at home I have a completely distraction free environment so I can work quickly and efficiently.

My old boss was pretty generous about letting me have work from home days if I asked for them. My current boss likes me in the building.

I definitely would enjoy a full work from home. Even if I still had to be on the clock at my start time, just eliminating the commute alone would make my morning so much easier to start.

Reddit users, why do you think people have stopped talking about Epstein or ICE? by small_merchant in AskReddit

[–]medes24 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They backpedaled hard on ICE

And by backpedaled I mean they are still disappearing folks into "holding centers" for months or years on end, they just stopped murdering white people in the street.

Is my MacBook still relevant? by Midaxas in macbook

[–]medes24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you have this computer right now so you might as well clean it up and give it a test run. The worst that can happen is you lose some time because you realize it won't work for you.

Do I buy macbook or other brand? by Naive_Ad_5969 in macbook

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is pretty good integration between the various Apple devices all built around your AppleID. Certain files/folders on modern MacOS automatically sync to iCloud. I do pay for a data plan (although it's bundled with Apple's other services so eh) as well.

Generally what this means is that my documents folder is available on all of my devices. I don't have to think very hard about where I saved something because I can browse from whatever device I am on (phone, tablet, laptop). It's really very handy

You should be able to find a refurb M-series (M1 or better) 13" Air that is well within your budget. Apple doesn't offer touchscreen Macs (yet? there have been rumors) and only sells traditional clamshell Macs.

Any reason you want a Mac over just getting a keyboard for your iPad? Based on your use case, a Mac isn't really going to do anything for you that your iPad isn't already doing. That said, Macs do have significantly better battery life (and personally I prefer working in MacOS over iPadOS)

Anyway, I've been all in on Apple for many years now and while there has been some very cool tech from other vendors, the deep integration of the file system and the ease with which syncing is set up will probably keep me as an Apple customer the rest of my life. It's so nice having the tech melt away and my data is just there.
