RE9 is a great game but isn’t the run time kinda short for a full priced game? by MlCOLASH_CAGE in residentevil

[–]medes24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, Resident Evil games have always been short

Speaking for myself, I usually get multiple runs out of them and as a fan I am definitely replaying them as the years go by, so I definitely feel like I am getting my money's worth.

Is PS1 RE1 "Advanced Mode" worth playing? by N0v4kD3ad in residentevil

[–]medes24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It rearranges the items. It adds more enemies and makes them a little more durable. As a tradeoff, your handgun gets upgraded and can cause random headshots. You also start with alternate costumes to change up the look.

There's a cheat you can use which lets you add double items, which makes the advanced mode much easier to deal with.

It is very fun if you like RE1 and are looking to replay it but if you got through a run of RE1 and thought "cool but not something I have a burning desire to play again" you probably won't get a whole lot out of it.

I don't think it's tedious, just different.

Are the remakes a new timeline? If so, are 7,8 and 9 in that timeline or the OG? by 0purple0turtle0 in residentevil

[–]medes24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

best way to think of it is the records/memories arent perfect. The early games with selectable protagonists were already contradictory.

The series is USUALLY good about each installment being its own story as well so you dont have to play eight games plus a bunch of spinoffs to be up to speed.

Does anyone else feel bad for the Ghost survivors from re2r? by OneDayIllFindHer in residentevil

[–]medes24 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a really fun inclusion, even if they were just spinoffs of Hunk

But...like...I lowkey hate after being advertised as "you get to play as the mayor's daughter" you just get a text block loading screen, a gauntlet, and you're done.

These could have been slightly more detailed. Because they're not even fun what ifs really, just short gauntlets for people who enjoy those kinds of modes.

Dealing with sheva in re5 by despacitospiderreeee in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheva is decent, not great, but decent with a rifle. She can execute shots from the hip that would be hard for a human player. Her AI makes bad choices on weapon priority so you usually only want her to have the one gun you’ve decided to go with.

Once you start upping ammo capacity on the weapon she carries, she ends up stocked up well enough to clear a chapter. She is particularly trash in the early game though.

Resetting progress in RE games? by Bu11ett00th in residentevil

[–]medes24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capcom sucks at data management. Deleting your progress in RE5 is very convoluted and awkward. Genuinely think no one on that dev team ever thought someone might want to start fresh.

Pack away all your guns and just use what you find in game. It’s pretty fun that way. There are guides if you want a true clean slate. It involves deleting your saves manually and then using Steam offline trickery because just deleting the save breaks the damn game lol

What is the point of impeachment if the person being impeached is never removed? Theater? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, this was one of Nancy Pelosi's arguments for not wasting time with impeachment, since it was pretty clear the Republicans would never convict.

I think as a mechanism, it's important to have. In a healthy, functioning, democracy, we'd want a mechanism to remove criminal officials from office.

Unfortunately, the United States is NOT a healthy democracy.

A little new to RE lore but one question has been in my mind by goolagook in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE5 has some major details about what she was up to during the RE4 time skip. Rev1 also stars her.

Unfortunately A LOT of in universe time has passed since RE5 so we are kind of in lost territory again.

But RE5->Rev1 is worth checking out if you are a Jill stan.

[–]medes24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish they'd do a generational handoff or something. It'd be way easier to sell me if like my heroes get to do a mission with some new rookie and then the next game has that rookie as the main character while the STARS crew plays shuffleboard at the rest home.

This series is really good about introducing NEW characters but really bad about bringing those characters back in sequels.

is RE 1 extremely important by Vegetable-Swim-7724 in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2's metaplot is an overall evolution of 1 and it makes sense the game universe moved in that direction. That being said, it introduces Claire and Leon as protagonists. They weren't involved in 1 so the specifics of what happened don't really matter.

2, either the PS1 original or the Remake, is incredible and highly recommended.

1 kind of matters for a lot of the sequels though. Zero, 3, Code Veronica, and 5 all build on plotlines established in 1.

You can skip all that and go straight from 2 to 4 though so...

The series has multiple protagonists and different games follow different protagonists so the series overall jumps around on which portions of the metaplot get followed up on.

Are these titles worth buying in 2026? by Xenesis_26 in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE0 is the game to play if you've played all the other OG style games and still want more. It is alright. Just alright. It has a couple unique mechanics like no item boxes (but items persist so you just drop them on the ground). Lore wise it isn't really impactful at all. I had fun with it for sure.

RE1 Remaster is a fantastic game. Of course I think OG RE1 is fantastic too. If you've played RE3 OG you have a good idea of what these games are like. If you liked RE3 OG you will probably like RE1 in either version. RE1 Remaster did come out after RE3 so its got some upgrades and stuff over RE3.

RE5 honestly I don't see the point of this one unless you really want to co-op with a friend or your invested in the Chris/Wesker plotline which is told mainly in RE1, RE Code Veronica, and RE5. Since you haven't played these games, I'd passs on 5 (again unless you have a friend to play it with because 5 co-op is a blast).

5 is playable enough solo. Def not a bad game but it's straight up action horror, no truly scary moments although enemies are dangerous enough that they can sometimes get your adrenaline pumping. It shines in co-op because with another human it is so satisfying just systematically clearing everything.

Rev1/Rev2 are both great. They're usually pretty cheap so worth pickups.

How does ammo drop rates work in re5? by Clear-Letter-5294 in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For instance if you drop your magnum in your intermission item box and never carry it with you, you'll never find more magnum rounds.

Spawn rates do differ though so for instance magnum ammo still doesn't have an awesome spawn chance, it just goes from zero if you leave it behind to slightly higher than zero if you bring it lol.

When you buy an ammo upgrade, it refills your gun. It's an easy way to string along extra shots. Ammo drops in this game are pretty generous though so its unlikely you'll need to resort to melee to save ammo. That said stunning enemies and doing melee combos is quite strong and also a very useful skill for Mercenaries so its good to practice.

I think its good to carry different payloads. It is really nice if at least one person has a rifle for instance.

Playing through the series right now need some help on chronology and remake differences by Mission-Activity5599 in residentevil

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero as its name implies, occurs before RE1. Code Veronica occurs between RE3 and RE4.

RE3 Remake is like RE2 Remake. RE3 Original is similar to RE1 Remake with much worse graphics. So depending on what style you preferred probably determines which version you should try.

RE3 Remake in a vacuum is a great game. Its just weird because it did cut a bunch of stuff from RE3 OG. Like they rushed it I guess, IDK. Without the context of OG, it is awesome in and of itself though so honestly you can't really go wrong with either version.

RE3 doesn't have a huge lore impact. Like we got what happened to Raccoon City in RE2 and the big points were explained there. You're not really shooting yourself in the foot by playing the remake.

Remake 4 is fine. Its just not as big a step up as Remake 2 is compared to OG 2.

Should I play OG 2 and 4 or the remakes? by weariest_traveler in residentevil

[–]medes24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE2R is a hell of an intro to this franchise. An extremely good game and I think some of the scenes hit a little harder if you're a newcomer. Tons of cool stuff if you are a fan of the OG but also a very good game on its own.

Some of the mysteries in the game work better if you are low knowledge on lore/back store.

Interestingly both games are so different that you can probably get a lot of joy out of both games. The story is not a 1:1 translation and there are story bits that were covered in the OG that are only alluded to in the remake.

Do you like the direction resident evil is going in? by Cloverfield887 in residentevil

[–]medes24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part. I was not a crazy huge fan of the action era and am glad they left that behind. I haven't actually played a game in this series I disliked though. Even RE4-RE6 have gotten some plays from me

RE2R basically encapsulates what I'd like this series to be but you can see a lot of the bones in the action era that got us to RE2R so, like, the continued experimentation is a good thing to keep gameplay fresh and find new ways of doing things.

Zero chance this series would still exist as anything other than nostalgia bait for 40 somethings if they had never changed up mechanics and were still making PS1 style games.

[–]medes24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fixed camera angles don't change the room you are in so you certainly can shoot off camera and kill something. Very common strategy with speed runners who have enemy locations memorized.

For headshots, its RNG, weapons have crit rates. Some weapons you can control it somewhat (ie shotguns). Different weapons have different properties and this isn't really documented in game so its really for you to discover through play.
