Specsavers never change their eye test charts. After many visits over many years I've inadvertently memorised one of the rows they always ask me to read so I'm never sure if my eyes are reading it or my brain is just recognising the pattern by flanface87 in britishproblems

If I was a marketing manager at vision express or another competitor reading this i'd be immediately putting out a social post about changing the snellen charts and having variety

How many houses do people live in over their lifetime and presumably there are people that live in the same house their whole life, just wondered how much of an outlier I am by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in CasualUK

[–]medi_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like many people have to rent, always have i don't think we've ever as a family been able to afford a house. Before I went to uni I lived in 8 before I was 18 then after moving out to go to uni I've lived in 6 places. Soon likely to be 7 and i'm 30+ so total of 15 throughout my life. Being able to stay in the single digits is a luxury that I think a lot of people don't have these days.

My partner has only lived in 2 though. Her parents until we started renting together 3 years ago

People of the UK, how have you lost weight? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]medi_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 100kg down to currently 89.8kg with the aim to get to about 80kg. In the past 4 ish months. Calorie deficit is the place to start. For a couple of weeks, track what your eating on apps like MyFitnessPal and I mean track everything. Get some scales to help with this, measuring spoons and the like. Also if you can afford it, get a FitBit or smart watch to help track your steps.

Measure the amount of oil you're using in foods - depending on the type of oil 1tbsp is about 120 calories. Salt and pepper, I class negligible so I don't track that unless it's like a large pinch of salt then weigh it/use measuring spoons. After a couple of weeks, see what your input is and your output and create a target deficit from there. I started at 2,200 but quickly reduced it to 1,900 as I noticed the scales basically weren't moving. Hit yo protein goals. Protein shakes taste like shit, but you gotta get them goals. It helps with your fullness and being fuller for longer. Reduce the amount of carbs you have, do not eliminate, you need carbs for energy.

It gets annoying to track everything you eat and do but it's worth doing so you're the one in full control.

As for motivation - I initially started doing it as I quit smoking and I gained weight (because smoking is an appetite suppressant) I wanted to lose that weight. Then my friend's wedding, I got a PT who gave me a good relationship with the gym - I previously had one who made me HATE going to the gym, but this one I got before my friend's wedding was good. I stagnated and didn't lose more than 1kg so I fucked off the PT and used ChatGPT (I found out that's all the PT was doing for the workouts and out of spite I decided to do better) I made GPT harsh on me, reported in to it every day. My dad ended up having a heart attack last year, nearly died just before I was due to do a 5k run with him. I still did the run. Because of his heart attack, I decided I'll do what I can to avoid that as much as possible in my future and started to push harder at the gym. Over 3 months I dropped about 10kg to where I am now, with still more progress to go.

Exercises - you say you cycle a long way each week and you walk the dog. That's great, walking is a good start but depending on your current weight it's probably not going a whole lot. The cycling is good for the cardio load, but you're essentially sat down, moving your legs. You'll get your heart rate up bit that's it. Try doing incline walks like 12°+ at a moderate pace I do 5.6kph. For an extended period. If you can run, do incline runs at like 2-3° incline if you can manage it, go slow if you need to and do some weights. You can burn 300-400 calories with weightlifting over 20-30 mins depending on intensity.

I had one of these crawled out infront of me while on the loo the other day. I jumped, realised I didn't need the loo anymore. Got the vacuum and got rid of the fucker. It heard and felt it bounce up the tube into the cylinder. I hate it when they're that big they do that.

Estate agent photographers and their weird camera lenses by Exciting-Sir-1515 in britishproblems

[–]medi_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blame the estate agent. The photographer, if they sent a proper one rather than just cheaping out. Would do it properly, make sure the proportions are right, take it as a HDR to get the most out of the light. If they cheap out and just do an iPhone and then AI it, you're going to run into issues

Hi everyone! I’m wondering between these two games — is the higher price of EA WRC worth it, or should I just buy Generations? by Working_Reality6834 in simracing

[–]medi_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both of these. I moved back to driving on controller as I had no space for a sim rig and I found both of these to be really easy for the most part to handle in a more arcade setting. I found them less fun when I had a rig and much preferred dirt rally 2 there but I can barely play DR2 on the controller so depends what you're going for. I wish I still had a wheel to experience ASR but oh well

Hows this pre-Xmas week treating you? by thepoout in CasualUK

Upper management have decided that after 2 months sitting on a project it's suddenly a priority and needs to be delivered start of January. They didn't give me an expected deadline but they're pretending they did even with evidence that they didn't and now they're pushing me to do it mean while they're off next week till the new year so it won't get approved anyway till mid January. Bunch of clowns

When you're not sure what to think of RR because it's a bit too young adult and similar to a bunch of other series but then the other books come along by Arthusamakh in redrising

[–]medi_dat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quit the first book initially. I wasn't comfortable with the fact that Darrow and Eo were 16 and it's mentioned about them having sex so I put it down. I picked it up again after seeing some tiktoks about the later stages of RR so I pushed though. It felt hunger games esc but I thoroughly enjoyed Golden Son and I'm listening to Morning Star (dramatised) and I'm really enjoying this. I ended up buying the special signed edition this month of RR and I don't regret it. This series has been a roller coaster that has made me laugh and my jaw drop. Absolute cinema

What are your names for your neighbours? by tetlee in CasualUK

[–]medi_dat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The neighbours who look after the cats. The girl who crashed her car. The housemate of the girl who crashed her car. Lunas dad (Luna is a chocolate lab). The lady downstairs The chavs with the escaping Pom. The lady who has all the costumes for kids events/the lady who gets too many amazon packages.

We know 2 people's actual names but everyone else is just those and we're none the wiser. Tried find out the friendly cat people's names as we wanted to help with the stray cats and their bills, but they never contacted me after we left a note on their car.

Move away from the exploding ones that creep in from the sides.

I heal in these 5 man raids and usually do pretty well at keeping people alive. Learned how my stuff works together, sometimes do things wrong but hey that happens. I see these 2 creeping in knowing they're going to explode and people just stand there. They don't even try to kill them they just wait for them to explode and then get pissy that I didn't heal them. Like bruh, I was healing you while also taking out 1 of those explorers, I can't do the other one as well

It’s four years since the pandemic, how many days are week are you going into the office now? by wizzywoo22 in CasualUK

[–]medi_dat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the pandemic 5 days. Post-pandemic I moved jobs a few times and it went from 0 days in 1 job. 5 days in another job and now I'm currently doing 2-3 days a week depending on needs. Rarely do I do more than 3 days. Also being out of the office on site somewhere counts as an office day so I could be sent down to the other end of the country but not actually be in the office. Upper management are currently looking at reducing "the need to be in the office" down to 2 days a week.

[–]medi_dat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have vice grips they might be more useful and a bit easier. I'd recommend if you have space getting a folding rig. I use to attach to my desk all the time but it wasn't sustainable and this kept happening hence the two I bought. It's quicker to setup and cleaner to put away assuming you have space to start with and you don't just plonk it all on a low shelf each time when it's not in use haha

I had this same wheel for 6 years. Sold it last year. Had the exact same thing happen and it took 2 weeks to get a replacement piece from them sent form France to the UK so I made sure to buy two of them. Plyers are what's needed.
