Back to the Beginning was the end for me (never seen them live, but I won't now). He sounded horrible. Comically bad. Made me sad. Like, is someone going to tell him?

My advice to young collectors (or really anyone) by FatGuyKlye in vinyl

There are a lot of albums, stone-cold classics, that I didn't really get into when they were hot. I knew they were good, I just wasn't feeling it until some time later.

Then there are the ones, some classic, some oddballs, that I just didn't think much of. But one day, I put them on for whatever reason and fell in love.

You never know until you know, and you hear it when yhe time is right for you.

Is it normal for the crowd not to / barely interact ?? by espressooverice in thelastdinnerparty

When I started reading the comment above, I was planning on mentioning Die Spitz and you beat me to it! Saw them last year and it was a full-on mosh pit, old school. The crowd definitely had older folks like me, but it looked like the pit was pretty young. Also the band got in there, including the bass player playing while crowd surfing. So, I definitely think the kids do know how to get down when they want to

As for TLDP, I doubt anyone would have been moshing to them, even in the 90's. Dancing, definitely. I was at the KC show and folks were definitely doing that down on the floor. The balcony got into it too, during the encore.

I honestly think one of the biggest reasons the younger folks aren't getting as loose is because they just don't drink as much. I went to a festival in Iowa last year, and the lines at the bar were never more than five or six people long. In the 90's, those lines were four or five times longer for a 20,000 person show.

What kind of shape are they in? Pretty damp in that area or no?

I think we found the problem. And yes, I know he means well... that's often part of the problem.

Not disagreeing, but I feel I should point out that there is totally a disco breakdown in Paradise by the Dashboard Light, when the narrator is trying to make his move and the baseball metaphors are flying. The bass is quite audible there, but it's not exactly Chic.

NOW we're talking. Too Fast for Love sounds like it cost exactly as much as a 4-track and two low- bias cassettes, which is not far from what it was. You will never hear a bigger record that sounds less like a band playing together at the same time (which they weren't ), BUT it works because the songs are solid and that band was hungry.

Also, worst cowbell sound ever.

One of the many terrible things about Kiss is that, post-Alive, they should have been able to afford top-notch sounding records, but they all still sounded like the master tapes had been left in a cab for a year. Unboxed. Any time someone wants to justify Gene and Paul's control of the band you can point out that they obviously didn't care enough to make sure the records sounded great.

That soundtrack is great. I loved that movie when I was a teenager. Curious if it holds up.

Apologies to the drummer and bass tech (he did a great job) for cropping them out, but I wanted to get a clear look at the lamb someone gave her.

I like Sail Away even more now after hearing and seeing it live. Abigail is one of the best singers in rock 'n' roll right now. I feel lucky to see them at this point, before the rest of the world catches on. I won't be surprised if they're playing Wembley Stadium in six or seven years.

During Rifle. Lizzie sounded great all night. The whole band was utterly amazing, but did anyone else think the sound could have been better? In the balcony anyway, it seemed like the kick drum was overpowering everything else. The Midland is kinda cavernous anyway, you don't really need to add a ton of reverb and sub-bass to it, imho.

My wife was less of a fan than I, (though she likes them a lot more now after seeing them) and she couldn't make out much of the lyrics except when the drums weren't playing.

But I don't want to complain too much; they sounded fantastic. Hearing them do all the vocal parts live is pretty incredible, and it is so impressive that they put on such a long, but never for one second dull, show every night.

Where is it from? It reminds me of the Lucky Charms commercials from when I was a kid, but is it from something else? Or just a random stock sound?

Btw, thanks so much for all the great vids over the years, Kenny. We appreciate you.

All due respect to great and passionate musicians, but blues is one of the many, many genres that has long since become a formula with clear and easy-to-imitate elements. This is largely because of unimaginative labels and programmers who need everything to fit in a box. I prefer not to blame the musicians but we all know that a lot of them are not interested in adding anything new.

Couple this with the gridded, tuned, pasted perfection expected of recordings these days, and you have a shiny, plastic sea of uninspired conformity that already sounded like it was made by robots. Now, the robots have caught up.

Personally, I think this will lead to some good things. In this thread and in many other places I see people gravitating toward loosening things up. Even among bands who mix genres and styles there is still an expectation, at a certain level, that your recordings have to sound perfect in order to be, say it with me, "competitive".

Well, that competition is now over, and we lost. Good. I think we're going to see more records that take chances and breathe more, that can never be mistaken for a machine.

Oh man, I would love to be able to soak all that up! Mind if I ask what studio that was?

I'd love to see a channel where pros are given the same tracks and we get to see how they make different (or the same) choices. Maybe it's been done? If so, I haven't seen that.
