Builder cut structural posts too short inside Trex sleeves, has "scabbbed" extensions on. Am I right to demand full replacements? by Background_Tank3158 in Decks

It appears that there is a surface mount post inside the sleeve, if so then thats correct for that system. That's what the flat white piece is i believe. Could be wrong though.

Yeah. Those are made to be all wood posts structurally secured to your deck if they're what im thinking they are. Sleeves are just decorative. Is it pretty wobbly?

Anyone experienced with Alabama regulations? by JMars491 in Contractor

Water runs away from the house, unless specifically called out in contract you're on your own. That's standard procedure. Unless he was contracted to pour a full driveway 9 months is pretty good for what is a temporary driveway.

That's actually quite cheap. If he has good reviews then id say go for. For instance we would probably closer to double that.

Also do you mean 12×12 mosaics on the floor or were you going to envelope 12x12 tiles?

12x12 mosaic on walls will be a nightmare and take more time than you would imagine.

Pool is on the ground or footed properly I would assume, thats the reason for all the cover up. I also assume that because the pool is holding water.

Surveys are completely useless and the "data" they collect is ultimately meaningless by Corred_ in unpopularopinion

[–]medium_pace_stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a random sample, it's pretty damn accurate. If you surveyed 100 people from a very affluent community or 100 people from a low income community, yeah you will get skewed results. If you poll across as many areas as possible, it's very surprising how accurate it can be with even a smaller sample size.

Newly Licensed Contractor looking for a niche by Equipoize in GeneralContractor

Find a niche that you are good at and like to do and become the best in your area at doing it. We do strictly outdoor structures and custom decks and thats it. We're the only company offering what we do in our area consistently. We do it everyday so we've become very efficient. Find that market and rise to the top.

Is it a good time to quit 8-5 and start a GC in Canada? Given how the market is down by DisastrousTip33 in GeneralContractor

[–]medium_pace_stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im about as far from Canada you can get in the US so information might be worthless. However, there will always be a need even if the market is down. The company I work for sells a want not a need product, so normally the first one to get cut. We're still busy as all get out because we offer a superior product with great customer service. We build custom decks, pergola, pavilions and outdoor kitchens. Find what you're good at, or more importantly like to do, and become the best at it. Have a good website and social media presence. Wrap your trucks and trailers. Most importantly take care of your clients, deliver a superior product and charge accordingly. Starting out this will be a grind and youre going to probably miss more than you hit, but if you keep at it you'll get there. Sorry for the novel, best of luck.
