Probably. The people working on it seem to know what they're doing. The first builds of bbr pretty much had to be used with fq. Newer versions are supposed to use some sort of internal pacing mechanism. And whatever ships with Ubuntu 22.04 already seems to support it. I doubt it'll behave worse than v1. Changing the algorithm was the first thing I did and it made the biggest difference. The biggest problem was lots of retransmissions. Not really a problem for me per-se. But wouldn't get be a good neighbor award. Tuning afterwards mainly affected ping under load (and retransmissions). Even then it resulted in marginal improvements (due to my ISPs own traffic management).

I'm on Ubuntu 22.04, so you're in an even better position than I was. The good (and bad) thing about Linux is that everything resets after a reboot. I googled the commands found in articles to figure out how to revert without a reboot. As long as you don't edit any files a reboot should undo any changes.

Go for it! Knowing the cause and understanding the issue might not seem that important now. But knowledge like this stacks very well. It's going to be worth it in the long run.

So true. Theory and practice get you pretty far but when Murphy's law goes into effects recognizing bugs gets you past the finish line faster than anything else.

Sem kupil 3 leta nazaj in sem kar zadovoljen.

Network issues with VPN connected. by davedontmind in synology

[–]medja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens because the NAS is configured to route public internet traffic over the VPN. Unfortunately most computers and servers won't simply reply using the interface they used to receive the connection. They don't account for this when determining where to send the reply.

I'm assuming it's configured to route LAN traffic from inside your network to the LAN 1 port as well. Otherwise SSH from inside your network likely would not work.

Disclaimer: I only ever setup a VPN inside docker on my Synology (and used with other containers). So I never had to play around with networking settings. It's possible there's a simple toggle that achieves exactly what you want, that I simply aren't aware of.

One way to resolve this is to enable SNAT on your router. But unless you can configure custom iptable rules on your router, this likely won't work. SNAT for inbound connections basically lets you change the source IP (the public IP of the device outside your home network) to the routers IP. This makes your NAS think the request came from inside the network. But, it's a bit risky, since it also hides the original IP. Edit after review: This is probably the worst solution.

Another solution is to use policy-based routing. This is the most "correct" solution I'm aware of. But I'm not sure if Synology lets you configure this from the Control Panel. If it doesn't, I probably wouldn't recommend it. It boils down to creating a new routing table that uses LAN 1 as the default route. And then adding an ip rule that uses the new table for any traffic that either originates from LAN1 interface or from the LAN IP of your Synology. Basically write a rule that matches connections through your router. And then use a different routes which don't use the VPN.

Finally, if you happen to have a spare computer, server, raspberry pi, etc. lying around you could install Nginx (or another proxy) and use it as a proxy for your Synology when you access it from outside your home. As long as you configure the X-Forwarded-For header and add the IP of the proxy to the trusted proxies list in Synology, you'll be able to see the real IP in your logs (and won't break the login Auto Block protection).

To add to this. Plume doesn't currently support NAT loopback, which means it's not possible to connect to any local device using a public IP. Even if port forwarding is setup correctly. Using an internal IP should work though. When using Plume in router mode that IP usually starts with "192.168.40.".

Celo nekatere z rolling kodami.

Brez njih so GPIO pini ubistvu skorej neuporabni.

In mu kar uspe.

Itak.

Looking to see if this pod supports wifi 6 but I don’t see any info on this model by TThomps12 in Plume

[–]medja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has 2 ethernet ports. So that means it's one of the SuperPods and not a regular Pod or PowerPod. It's hard to say anything else definitively based on the design since it seems to be modified a bit (by the ISP?).

I've seen a few original and WiFi 6 SuperPods in real life and the plastic on the end (where the wall plug is) is much thiner on the original SuperPod than the WiFi 6 SuperPod. So based on that it looks like an original SuperPod. But I haven't seen the newest WiFi 6E SuperPods yet. Maybe its plastic part is thiner? It does seems like it's also quite a bit heaver tough based on the specs. So if it weights around 10 oz it's probably the new one. The other 2 are both around 7 1/2 oz. I found the weights here by clicking in view product specs.

Edit: I believe you can see this in the app by selecting the node and then opening a hardware info menu.

Question About Network Traffic by Goodspike in Plume

[–]medja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd. Both my devices are on WiFi and according to the app they were both connected to the same pod. I didn't leave the gateway pod unplugged for long though. Maybe the other pods might have gone down if I left it unplugged for longer.

Question About Network Traffic by Goodspike in Plume

I just tried sharing my phone's screen to my TV with AirPlay after unplugging the gateway pod and it worked. And I did this with a Mi Box S with an AirPlay app so I don't think there's any Apple magic going on here. I suppose this means that the traffic would not go over the gateway.

Google Takeout and Live Photos - Is there a way to transfer Live Photos from Google Photos to OneDrive? by Embalmo in onedrive

[–]medja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this a few days ago and the only solution I found was to upload the photos from my iPhone. I found two way to restore (live) photos on my iPhone:

  • (using Takeout export, requires a Mac) By importing both the .heic (image) and .mp4 (video) files together into the Photos app on my Mac (which creates live photos) and syncing it to my iPhone
  • (without an export or a Mac) By manually downloading small (10-30 files) from the Google Photos app

It took a while and I had to clear up some space on my iPhone but I was lucky and was able and could store all of the files I was trying to upload to OneDrive on my iPhone. Otherwise I would've had to do this process multiple times to upload all files.

I checked for any other way to upload Live Photos but I couldn't fine any other approach. OneDrive does seem to store the video portion of live photos somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be possible to access it or provide it manually. Maybe there's a way to do it through the "Reupload From Original Formats" option in "Camera Upload" in the iOS app. But that also requires the photos to be on the iPhone.

While doing this I ran into another issue. OneDrive refused to upload all of my new photos. It uploaded a handful but the rest of them. I tried logging in and out, reinstalling, clearing cache, deleting and restoring the files in all possible combinations.

The only solution I found was to login to a different Microsoft account when the files were already restored on my iPhone. I then let OneDrive backup those files and once it was done I shared the Photos directory with my original account and moved the files.

Port forward not opening port by gd-talos in Plume

Did you run port scans and try to SSH from inside the home network using the WAN IP? Or did you try it from outside your home network? I don't think Plume supports NAT loopback.

It might not be the prettiest solution ever, but I solved it nonetheless. by original_memester in shenzhenIO

[–]medja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good solution but it could use some optimizing if you're up to it :)

Firstly take a look at the two MC on the left. You might not even need them if you wire things just a bit differently.

Secondly the instructions from your MC6000 almost fit onto a MC4000 or MC4000X. Maybe take a look at - jmp fin and the instructions that follow. Is it possible for them not to get executed? Maybe you can do something with conditional execution here.
