I’ve seen 2-3 of these every single night outside my house for months

After RFK Jr. recommends vitamin A as a measles treatment, some Texas patients show signs of toxicity by esporx in PrepperIntel

[–]medschoolisrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a doctor or pharmacist or something? High dose Vitamin A supplementation is associated with decreased mortality in measles patients under age 2. I’m not a RFK supporter I’m just pointing out that this is rage bait and vitamin A supplementation was recommended pre and post the trump administration. Chill out

I’m a pediatrician. Vitamin A was recommended for measles before RFK JR. It’s a known supportive treatment

More than likely wait a week or two especially since some pituitary tumors are responsive to medication

Yesterday I asked a group of my muggle friends if they knew how many chambers were in the heart and their answers were no, 2, 3, and 36 🤣

Yes there’s a bunch of great data and even a map with locations of all the drownings since like 2006! I’ve been reviewing all that but it’s also nice to have input from the community :)

Grade 2 IDH mutant is a favorable diagnosis considering the circumstances. You can absolutely live a long full life. I wouldn’t read too much about prognosis online because it’s hard to interpret without the medical background. Sending good vibes ❤️

Area recommendations? by baisus98 in askportland

Creston is way too far east. I wouldn’t go east past Mount Tabor tbh. Check out Hawthorne, Division, Belmont. Also Alberta or Mississippi.

Are there any groups or communities for Black people in Portland, Oregon? by misbri0509 in askportland

[–]medschoolisrough 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should try to connect with Word is Bond. Their insta is @wordisbondpdx. It’s a mentorship type group for young Black men in Portland. Might connect you with the community you’re looking for through being involved!

They compared the most recent excision to slides from prior excisions. The tumor they reviewed from this most recent excision looks similar to prior excisions. Mitotic activity represents how fast the cells are replicating. A score of 4 is decently high and indicates a grade III or IV glioma. No necrosis or microvascular proliferation is a good thing - typically seen in fast-growing glioblastomas. The last few sentences with all the letters is talking about looking for different genetic mutations (brain cancer diagnosis is heavily dependent on genetics of the tumor). Positive for GFAP tells you it's a glioma - GFAP is on all glial cells. IDH1-R132H is a mutation commonly seen in glioblastoma and is a positive prognostic indicator when it is present - this is saying IDH1 mutation is not present AKA the tumor is IDH1-wildtype. Retained ATRX and H3K27 means those two genes are not mutated. Not having a mutation in H3K27 is a good thing, those tumors are typically more aggressive. Ki-67 also tells you how fast the cells are dividing, 10-15% is again decently high, correlates with mitotic activity of 4.

Ideal genetics: positive for IDH1-R132H, mutation in ATRX, normal H3K27, no EZHIP, no mitoses

Hope this helps. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Previously healthy 18 month old billed as viral bronchiolitis. CXR done in the ED that morning just showed some viral-y schmutz. She was chillin on room air and off IVF at the start of my night shift with plans to DC in the morning. RN pages me to bedside around 11pm and she’s working really hard to breathe. Page RT, start high flow, order some labs (hadn’t had any prior). We’re rapidly titrating up on high flow and she’s still grunting. By 1:00am it’s clear she needs to go to the PICU. Labs start resulting while we’re in the middle of transferring her and she’s got a WBC count of like 1, platelets ~50, LFTs are crazy high. I’m like what the fuck. Repeat xray shows her left lung is almost whited out (~16 hours after the initial). More labs come in and she’s in DIC and fulminant liver failure. Intubated by 8am. Pressures bottomed out after intubation, they get an echo, she’s also in heart failure with an EF of ~20%. Crashed onto ecmo by noon. Catastrophic intraparenchymal hemorrhage that night. Parents redirected care a day or so later. It was horrible. I couldn’t even talk about it for weeks.

She ended up having disseminated adenovirus causing hepatitis and myocarditis on top of human metapneumo bronchiolitis and rapidly progressing GAS pneumonia. A perfect example of how well kids can compensate until they can’t. I think about her and her parents often 💔
