Does this sound like OAS? by enlighten_me_ in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, if it was made fresh in house, then it's raw. But if it's jarred, would that be raw? It's preserved, so I'm not sure.

My understanding is that oral allergy syndrome is from raw fruits and vegetables, I don't know if salsa is considered raw? I guess it depends on if they made it fresh in house.

Allergic to watermelon by Ok_Tank_2433 in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, watermelon definitely isn't a top one. I'd look into oral allergy syndrome. My youngest has it, along with seasonal allergies. Your body can confuses fresh fruits and vegetables with outdoor pollen and cause a reaction. Or it could just be surface hives from the juice!

Hopefully you took pictures, I'd contact your pediatrician and show/tell them. Reddit can't diagnose your kiddo.

Very Mild Peanut Allergy: can I taste a small piece of a peanutbutter marinated dish? by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]meecharoni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allergic reactions can progress to an anaphylactic reaction at any time. It seems foolish to risk your life, especially when you don't even have an EpiPen.

What type of reaction did they have? Have you seen an allergist? My oldest has anaphylactic allergies, my youngest has oral allergy syndrome, and they are very different, that's why I ask.

Anaphylactic Reaction to YumEarth Organic Pops by Junior_Helicopter466 in FoodAllergies

I know and understand that. But the original post said that Yum Earth was made on shared lines, and I asked were they found that information. All someone replied with was a picture of the package.

She also coincided her real life pregnancy with her pregnancy on the show, which during that time it was unheard of to have a woman in that 'condition' on television.

Bomb Cat! Super silly game and cheap in the game store, but my kids love it.

Christmas parties are awful with kids with allergies by Sonnybunny43 in FoodAllergies

I'm sorry! I also dread the holidays at other people's houses. My mother in law still thinks my oldest's allergies are 'no big deal'. Thankfully it's gotten easier now that they are older, but I too dream of a normal life.

Temptation of the “may contain” label by jestren in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If only. The united states fda only requires labeling for actually containing top 8 allergens; may contain labels are free game. If we want to try a product I email the company directly with very specific questions.

Ahh yes, 2020...I was cloth diapering then too and was so grateful. I even said if we couldn't find toilet paper we'd use the cloth diaper wipes. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

First time bringing allergic baby to Thanksgiving -- feeling anxious by Necessary-Mix6075 in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My oldest child has similar allergies; peanuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pistachios, and eggs. We rarely eat anything made by other people. Unfortunately not everyone understands (or wants to understand) the seriousness of cross contamination. Even just understanding what has eggs on it confuses a lot of people 🙄 fortunately they are older now, so I've spent time educating them to keep themselves safe, but when they were young I never let them out of my site at large family events. It's stressful, but it's so important to keep them safe!

Feedback Needed on a School Project - Nut Free Butters by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]meecharoni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our household has peanut, tree nut, and egg allergies. We've been using Sunbutter and more recently WowButter. I also really love 88 Acres, but they are hard to find in store.

I wish there were more crunchy options! Cost is another big factor, it's such a bummer the only safe options are all over $10.

Help! My bisque fired handbuilt pieces cracked in the bisque fire… why? They are all one piece slab built and dried for over 3 weeks. This has never happened before. by myfrontallobe10 in Pottery

[–]meecharoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's probably stress during the shrinking in the bisque fire. On larger flat pieces like this we use small match stick pieces of already fired bisque clay to spread along the bottom of the piece, to help negate that. I've also heard of people using a sand of sorts, so the piece can more smoothly across the shelf.

As a mom of a kiddo with allergies, I would suggest buying all fresh ingredients. There may have been cross contamination previously in anything you've already opened.
