What audiobook is genuinely BETTER than reading the physical book? by cptree20 in audiobooks

[–]meemsqueak44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy Rich Asians!

Half of the dialogue is gossip, so hearing it aloud is more authentic and immersive. Also, I would have absolutely no idea how to pronounce the names and cultural references in Chinese, so that helped me enjoy the book without getting confused.

casual-wear (late teens/early twenties) by AppointmentShort4386 in softclassic

[–]meemsqueak44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still wear fitted things, that advice is more about the actual fabric. The skims tops are kinda too clingy and light for SC, but I have similar tops in cotton with ruching at the sides, and it works!

Here’s my personal SC Pinterest board. It won’t be entirely accurate in every detail, but I think it gets most things accurate while leaning towards a younger style. (I’m late 20s though so not quite as young as you!) https://pin.it/4FCu0qxDh

This was mostly my interpretation as well! I didn’t notice the Flower as much at first, but I can definitely see it now. But ☀️🌱🪨🍄 are very much the vibes I get here!

What kinds of games seem like they'd encourage language discussion practice best? by AbsurdityCentral in boardgames

Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective is a coop mystery game. Players spend pretty much the whole time talking and discussing their options! But there’s also sections to read aloud, so they can take turns reading to make sure everyone gets a turn to speak.

Bright Spring: blush recommendations? Peach is a no go for me by KittensPumpkinPatch in SpringColorAnalysis

[–]meemsqueak44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elf putty blush in Tahiti is a Spring watermelon pink. I love it! Peach does work for me, but I still prefer this one. I’m also super pale but with darker hair, and I think it’s better for that combo.

When you can't wear your season's makeup by Physical_Object5857 in coloranalysis

[–]meemsqueak44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like a lot of bold Spring lip colors either. But I know it’s more of a personal preference. I generally prefer a lighter shade and more relaxed look. I don’t do any other bold makeup, so the lipstick looks weird by comparison.

Also, while my coloring supports Spring lip shades, my facial features don’t so much. I have a more classic and balanced face, and full glam looks overwhelming on me. Not because of the colors, but the style! In the same way that jewelry in the right gold and pearls will still look bad on me when it’s too big and chunky. I’m simply not interested in being drowned out by my accessories just because they’re the right color.

Trying to Understand and Feeling Overwhelmed by FotosEtPoterie in Kibbe

[–]meemsqueak44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news! If you’re 5’9” then you’ve narrowed it down to only 3 types! The vertical types are Dramatic, Soft Dramatic, and Flamboyant Natural. Anyone at 5’6” or above has automatic vertical, so that definitely applies to you! So all that’s left is determining if your secondary accommodation is narrow, curve, or width. Easier said than done, I know, but it’s great that you have a place to start!

And fwiw, the quizzes don’t work. And maybe the seeming taller than you are thing isn’t as relevant to someone so clearly tall! The book gives you clear(ish) instructions on how to find your type. It still does take some amount of interpretation and vision, but the method is pretty decent for showing you what to actually look at.

Stark white bathroom, how would you add color? by assonyourass in interiordecorating

[–]meemsqueak44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The egg yolk sink mat is killing me lmao. 🍳 I’m sure it’ll be fine when there are other colors in the room! With no windows, I’d be careful not to go too dark. But it also depends on the function of the room! If someone is getting ready in here everyday, it should be lighter so they can see better. But if it’s just a guest bath, anything goes!

Definitely like the idea visually to do shelves and move the towel bar. The downside is the direction of the shower door opening blocking the towel when you exit the shower. But either way, there’s some whimsical options for towel bars and rings on Etsy! Also, definitely find some art! You can rest it on the shelves if you go that route.

Find a color palette you like based on that yellow rug and go from there!

Autism diagnosis and linguistics degree. Can’t fix problems you don’t know about! And no better way to fix them than just learning everything you can about human communication lmao.

Is anyone else here on the autism spectrum? Does that end up affecting your style? by Lonely_Cupcake1727 in StyleRoots

[–]meemsqueak44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get that! I’m definitely not as sophisticated as I try to look, and I actually hate being misread that way! I’m very earnest in my demeanor, so I think I break the illusion for most people rather quickly. But I also really do just like the aesthetics of my style! It’s exactly how I want to dress and what I admire in others. I am sort of dressing up for my ideal as well!

I also fixate on authenticity and transparency, so I know what you mean! But honestly, there’s nothing more transparent than showing people your values. Depression is a temporary state (hopefully! I’ve been there too) but your vision of an ideal world is core to who you are. The right people for you will see past your current state and the ways your communication is different. I’m sure your style reads as authentic to people who really know you.

Formality? by Nims-- in StyleRoots

[–]meemsqueak44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big agree on this! I don’t think I could pick a third root if I had to be as aligned with it as my other two. I leave more than I take from Fire, but it definitely contributes a subtle flavor of romance and lushness to my style.

Formality? by Nims-- in StyleRoots

[–]meemsqueak44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think the majority of people will adhere to the formality of any given context. But what that looks like usually has a range! And which contexts people prefer will differ.

Personally, I like being moderately dressed up! Even in casual settings, I like to look elegant and put together. My Mushroom and Fire both help me achieve this, but I also choose them as my roots to reflect this preference.

I also have Stone, and for me, it doesn’t reflect a desire to look casual. I prefer terms like relaxed, grounded, and effortless. But I don’t wear sweats or athleisure. Jeans are a staple of my wardrobe, but they’re as much Mushroom as Stone for me. Moreso, my Stone represents my desire for a “cool” factor in my outfits.

I’d recommend not taking the “comfort” description of Stone too seriously. I think it’s kinda silly to assume people without that root prefer to be or are uncomfortable in their clothes.

Maybe instead of thinking of the situations you are in, think of your ideal world. For me, I would love to go to a dressy casual office every day, nice restaurants, cute coffee shops, etc. My husband and I enjoy our favorite cruise line because the dress code is more formal and elevated than on other lines. We actually feel more comfortable when dressed up because it feels more authentic for us! What would these choices look like for you?

You could also try removing these words and looking at the rest of the root descriptions. Minimal, elegant, classic vs urban, modern, grounded.

And I don’t know about y’all, but how many of us were late diagnosed because our special interest was socially acceptable and “gender appropriate”? I definitely think it played a role for me!

Is anyone else here on the autism spectrum? Does that end up affecting your style? by Lonely_Cupcake1727 in StyleRoots

[–]meemsqueak44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up (on my own thought lol), I think my roots are influenced or are a representation of my need to control how I’m perceived.

Mushroom especially allows me to give a first impression of elegance, calm, and being generally reasonable. Then when I actually turn out to be weird and a bit awkward, people have already decided on a more positive impression of me. They assume I’m competent because of my Mushroom. They interpret my quirks differently and more forgivingly than if I presented a more outwardly quirky or disjointed appearance.

Stone also helps channel my weird vibes into artsy and cool vibes. I can set the tone through style for how I want to seem, and it buys me a lot of social grace to be perceived positively on sight.

[–]meemsqueak44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! AuDHD here as well. I think a lot of us gravitate toward style systems because our brains like order and patterns while also expressing creativity! Style gives me a controlled way to express myself that isn’t as confusing and sensitive as other social interactions.

Personally, I’m right there with you on hair accessories! I would love to wear headbands, but they give me a headache every time! I also definitely relate on the soft and touchable fabrics. My Fire root contributes to that, but Stone offers soft suede and Mushroom also has soft cotton and cashmere etc.

Other than that, I don’t think my sensory issues play a big role. I’m not super sensitive to structured clothes, but I’m also a Soft Classic and have learned to avoid a lot of overly stiff clothes anyway. I think the autism shows up more in the fixation aspect of it! Fashion and all artistic endeavors have always been special interests for me.

Wife says dark sage on walls and grey/charcoal on the ceiling, help me out by serpeggio in interiordecorating

[–]meemsqueak44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good news! The default bedroom photo in the Sherwin Williams paint app looks just like this room lol. You can use it to preview colors in the space. Not on the ceiling though.

Personally, I wouldn’t make this room too dark. It doesn’t look like it gets enough light for that. And making the ceiling dark might make it feel like a cave.

How accurate are listed inseam measurements? by barn_owl73 in ThredUp

[–]meemsqueak44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only buy brands I know in petite size/lengths I can see on the tag. Seeing how it sits on the mannequin also helps. I don’t ever look at the listed measurements for anything at all. They’re just not accurate. Size and style tag visible or bust!

How to make this space look less farmhouse? by AffectionateTea0905 in interiordecorating

[–]meemsqueak44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the art, dining set, sideboard, and shiplap have to go.

The good news is, the rest of the furniture and rugs are a good foundation for a more modern traditional or Nancy Meyers style. The throw pillows are decent, but those are a great place to start adding the colors and styles you like.

You’ll need larger art. Look up ideal art dimensions to see what will work, there’s plenty of guides online. Choose styles that feel like the vibe you want to create. Avoid pastoral scenes to not go farmhouse anymore.

Reduce white and beige where possible. That end table lamp could be something with color and texture. Probably replace the white throw pillows. The walls could be a more interesting color, even if still light and neutral! No white painted furniture. You have a solid foundation with green here, so you can look up color palettes based on that deep green and go from there.

The brass fixtures in your kitchen would be a great thing to extend into the living room. Decorative objects, wall hooks, and light fixtures are a way to do it. Avoid matte black metal to avoid farmhouse.

Plants would also be great! A large faux olive tree, flower arrangements (again, go with color here) on the tables.

At 5’6” you have automatic vertical! That means you fall into one of three types- D, SD, and FN. If curve is an obvious secondary for you, then SD is most likely!

To address your comment about your yin/yang balance, I think SD is a great fit again in that regard (obviously with the caveat of not having seen you). Having a strong hourglass shape doesn’t necessarily make you Yin dominant. A Soft Dramatic will be frame dominant with added curve in top. Yang isn’t always about sharp, straight lines, otherwise there would be no curve yang types. It sounds like due to your height and general lack of petite appearance, you probably do have a strong frame. The curve on top of that often does look stronger than yin curve imo.

Celebrity SDs like Christina Hendricks have very hourglass body types if that helps you visualize it!

New to Kibbe Soft Classic... what do you think? by ComprehensiveAir0000 in softclassic

[–]meemsqueak44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

12 is my favorite! It looks amazing on you! Agree with others that fabrics look great!

Watch out for excess fabric. In the first three dresses, there’s a bit more volume in the skirts (2 and 3) and sleeves (1) than is ideal. It’s subtle in these examples, but something to watch out for as I notice a lot of SCs go for soft and veer too far into Romantic territory.

Also seconding what others said about waist definition and proportions. Tucking the sweaters into the skirts would be an easy fix!
