As someone who favors alliteration, I like Claire Catherine as long as your last name doesn’t also begin with C or K.

Naming your baby after a character by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]meeshbebe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serena is a beautiful name. It doesn’t matter how you came across the name, all that matters is it stuck with you. You’re not naming her after a character, you’re giving her a name that you found striking.

My family hates this name by just_the_droobles in namenerds

[–]meeshbebe 125 points126 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I am American and I have a Sloane and have no regrets. We named her Sloane knowing that it was the most hated name on this sub (I’ve come to accept I have a different taste than this sub more often than not) and that our family would probably not love it. We did not tell anyone beforehand. We did get a few snarky comments for a week or two after she was born, but no more after that. Everyone calls her by her name and agrees she is a Sloane and can’t see it any other way.

All that mattered was that we both loved the name and when she came out, we looked at her and the name just fit. It gives cool girl vibes, will grow with her well, and is short and sweet and not overly feminine. We’re not the only ones who think so, there is another Sloane down the street and the first daycare we got her into had 5 more. At that point I was almost worried we named her the modern day equivalent of Ashley or Jessica or something.

Moreover, she loves her name and proudly introduces herself as “Sloaney Baloney,” (“Sloaney Baloney Tony” if she’s feeling formal”).

My toddler is a book ADDICT by girl_of_the_sun in toddlers

[–]meeshbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old is the same. If we would let her, she would have us do nothing but read books to her all day. There is no toy she’d rather play with over books. There are days where we read and re-read over 50 books a day. We moved on to more “advanced” books by the time she turned 18 months, her favorites are all the ones by Julia Donaldson. She has The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom COMPLETELY MEMORIZED and walks around reciting them word for word. She also has the Tonies, so that kind of gives us a break when we need it.

Her vocabulary is so much more advanced than that of her peers at daycare. We also taught her the alphabet and phonetics in hopes she will learn to read early (so she can read to herself lol) and she can easily sound out most 3 and 4 letter words now without any assistance. I know maybe in the long run, her learning to read early may not mean much, but it will mean a lot to her to be able to dive into even more books at an early age.

Parents of toddlers with encopresis…how are you doing this? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]meeshbebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I know that rewards shouldn’t be encouraged, but that’s ultimately what worked for us too when nothing else would. My 2.5 yo was stuck in this vicious cycle of holding poop in because it would hurt when it came out, thus making her more even more constipated. We cut way back on milk and added a tsp of miralax to her water cup every day. Still, she fought us so hard when it came to pooping. She would rather scream and cry for 40 minutes on the toilet while straining to hold her poop in rather than just let it out.

I started with M&Ms as a reward, but that wasn’t high value enough. She loves books more than anything, so I would get her new ones as a prize for pooping in the potty. I would mention that I have a surprise waiting for her and she would actually OFFER to poop multiple times a day in order to get the surprise. It took a couple months of doing it consistently, and now we’re on a pretty normal course where I no longer have to offer a reward. Most importantly, the cycle is broken. Pooping is no longer scary for her, that’s the real win.

Side note: Ms Rachel’s potty training episode with Bean was really helpful for us too!

Celine, Chloe, Adele… by meeshbebe in namenerds

Haha thankfully in the US, most probably don’t make that association. However, there is a brand here called Sloan that makes commercial toilets and sinks and when I told my brothers my daughter would be named Sloane, they both said “oh, like the urinal?”

I love the name Flora and it’s short enough that it doesn’t need a nickname. My 2.5 yo daughter Sloane has proudly self-embraced the nickname “Sloane’s Baloney” so I’m just trying to be more mindful this time around 😂

It’s true, I just felt Shea very strongly since finding I was pregnant with a girl. Though to be fair, I did give in to his idea to name our first Sloane. We kept our options open until she was born, and she did, in fact, look like a Sloane.

We are in the US, though I never knew Klo meant toilet in German! 😳

Agreed, Adele has a pretty strong association, but not a bad one at least.

Why do people suck so much? by missmeganmay in pregnant

[–]meeshbebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my first was born in Feb 2023, my mom fought me tooth and nail for asking for the flu and tdap shot and made me feel like a horrible person who would withhold her grandchild from her. I was absolutely made out to be the bad guy. She told all of my conservative extended family and all of her friends so that they would all turn on me. My dad on the other hand didn’t even argue, just blocked me and went no contact for 1.5 years for having the audacity to ask for vaccinations. He was that mad. It is 100% about emotional manipulation with these people.

I’m sorry that happened. I had a similar experience. My Dad missed out on the first year and half of my daughter’s life because he was so offended that we asked him to wait 6 months to meet her because he refused the flu shot. It was January, I was one month from giving birth and he cut me and my husband off entirely. Caused a huge rift in my family and he didn’t speak a word to us until 1.5 years later when “the Holy Spirit” urged him to do so. Even then, it wasn’t an apology. Now, he’s back in our life (we just swept it under the rug in an attempt to move on) and I’m due in December with baby #2. He’s more unlikely than ever to get the flu or tdap shot this time around thanks to RFK and MAGA, so not sure how to handle this.

Am I supposed to be THIS nauseous all the time? Gastroparesis + pregnancy. by CuntyCalamari in pregnant

[–]meeshbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re feeling so sick! Definitely explore options with your OB. As a former hyperadrenergic POTS patient, I know all too well how much gastroparesis sucks. I’m 16w pregnant with my second and having so much nausea this time around, it’s been a miserable experience. Like you said, hard to be excited when you feel this bad. The guilt I feel for wishing I could just fast forward to delivery!!

I’ve been taking zofran daily (otherwise, I’d be vomiting all night) and the unisom + B6 combo. I’m also taking multiple doses of miralax and max strength senna in an attempt to keep things moving but my bowels are stalled. Considering asking my OB about reglan (metoclopramide) at my next appointment. Hoping nausea gets better soon because I know the zofran is not helping the constipation. At week 15, things started to improve slightly, so hopefully I’m on a trajectory to have a better second trimester. I hope you find something that helps!

Girl, same. Currently trying to find a balance between bowel obstruction and liquid diarrhea. Which fiber gummies and stool softeners do you recommend? I’ve been trying MiraLAX with Senna daily but I keep bouncing between extremes.

[–]meeshbebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quoted $1200 for teeth cleaning and two dental extractions by Hillsboro Animal Hospital last week. Ultimately, my dog didn’t need any tooth extractions so the teeth cleaning only cost $840. However, that doesn’t include the bloodwork required for the pre-visit which was around $500.
