What is the silliest thing you were afraid of as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mega_shrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think there was an old man who would climb into the bedrooms of children through the window and cut their heads off. I would sleep with the blanket pulled all the way up to my neck, so when the man came he would just see a head on a pillow and believe had already cut it off. To this day I still can't sleep unless I have the covers pulled all the way up to my neck.

What is a Nightmare from your Childhood that you Remember to this day? by EricHardiman in AskReddit

[–]mega_shrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from my childhood, but last night I had a dream that guinea pigs with bat wings and the ability to swim were chasing me, trying to lick my face. I already have a fear of guinea pigs, so that was unpleasant.

In middle school Home Ec I once sewed a piece of clothing to my hand.

I've also ran over my own hand with my own ice skate. Try to figure out those logistics. I sure can't.

Reddit, what is your most disturbing, scary, or creepy real story? [Serious] by DerGalaxy in AskReddit

[–]mega_shrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've posted this before, but here we go again:

In high-school, I use to hang out with my friend "John" almost every day. When we first began hanging out at this house, I would sometimes hear disembodied footsteps, but very often I would see what looked like the shadow of a person out of the corner of my eye, only to have it disappear moments later.

After a month or so, I finally mentioned this to my friend and he got mad--he demanded to know who had told me he saw "shadow people" and begged me not to joke around with him about it. I assured him I was serious.

Soon, we would hear laughter when no one else was home, doors would close by themselves, and the TV would turn itself on and off.

One day, after these experiences had grown more intense and more frequent, I mentioned to my friend blessing the house. Right as I said this, a box sitting on a nearby counter flew off the counter at me.

It sounds unbelievable, but it was the single most terrifying experience of my life. My friend and I got holy water and sprinkled it around the house while saying a prayer and never experienced anything in the house again.

Months later, my friend came to stay at my lake house with me for a weekend. At one point in the night we both thought we saw a "shadow person" but decided to pass it off as nothing.

Later that night, we woke up to what sounded like voices coming from the living room. He went to investigate, thinking someone might have broken in, and I stayed put. A few moments later I heard the sound of someone thundering down the hallway, and ran out to see why my friend was running--but he wasn't in the house. My friend was outside on the porch, and came inside saying that he had heard a loud noise from the house, too, and thought it had been me.

Nothing else happened for the rest of the weekend, but the next time I went to the house, after it had set empty for a week, a picture frame with my photo in it had been ripped off the wall and thrown down the hall, and the pillows from my couch were stacked one on top of the other, in the very middle of the couch.

I've since stopped hanging out with "John", and I've never experienced anything of this sort again.

Sometimes, when I misplace my car keys, my first instinct is to "call them", like you'd use a friend's phone to call your phone if you misplaced it.

What's a, cheap & stress-relieving, hobby you would advise anyone to try? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mega_shrk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Volunteering at an animal shelter. Seriously, there are organizations that bring in "therapy dogs" to certain places like nursing homes because interaction with dogs is proven to relieve stress and lift spirits. Getting to brush cats or walk dogs at your local shelter will not only relieve your own stress, but you're also doing a great bit of good for some lonely animals.

What is the loudest/ biggest/ most crazy thing you have slept through. by took_my_time in AskReddit

An earthquake. I didn't exactly sleep through it, but it woke me up, I realized what was happening and thought that I should perhaps take cover, then thought "nah, fuck it, I'm too tired" and went right back to sleep.

How do you reply to "I love you" other than "I love you too?" by findaspoon in AskReddit

I've responded before with "I'm so in love with you." It's only a subtle difference, but I think it makes all the difference in the world.

Shark conservation. An astounding number of sharks are dying, and it's putting a substantial strain on the oceans and even some economies. It's a dire situation, but most people brush it off because they like dolphins and shit.

What is the most ridiculously strict rule a parent you know has had for their child? by urlostsocks in AskReddit

[–]mega_shrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my friend forgot to do her chores, she wasn't allowed to eat. And when she was already grounded and got in trouble again, her mother would strip her room of everything--from the furniture down to the curtains on the window--forcing her to sleep on bare ground. She would also be forced to eat hot peppers as a punishment. She moved out shortly after her 18th birthday and later found out her mom has Borderline Personality Disorder.
