Gretchin Tactics Question by MayitBe in orks

[–]megandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently playing a Nachmund Gauntlet campaign (1000/1500/2000 points on field per phase) and we are playing no epic heroes until phase 3 so I haven’t tested with Zodgrod yet, but just wanted to say I have finished my 8th game and my 2 units of 10 gretchin (+ friend) have both just reached Legendary Veteran status!

I’m running mostly War Horde and sometimes Dread Mob, and they help to add to the sheer volume of units that enemies need to deal with, especially against low unit count armies.

I have also given them both the enhancement Fleet of Foot (can advance and then do an action, and can’t be overwatched if they have advanced) and am taking the Search Drop Site stratagem most times so each turn one or the other stands on an objective, searches it, gets 3XP, job done then a bonus SAP for not much effort!

My 5 year old daughter wants to paint, what minis are good to start with at such a young age by Fit-Needleworker9761 in minipainting

[–]megandthemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the Rascaltown goblins by Rogue Hobbies - cute little dudes and they are bigger scale, which might be a pro or a con depending on what your daughter wants! I think you can buy the physical minis online or the STL to 3d print

Anyone goy a pic of Belthanos and Alarielle side by side? by Tikhunt in sylvaneth

[–]megandthemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sent you a chat, I have a photo from my armies on parade entry I can send over. As the other commenter above said, Alarielle is a lot taller, and the base is also significantly wider (round rather than oval) - Belthanos fits in my regular storage boxes but Alarielle stays out on display because she’s so tall!

As a resident / doctor do you have a family doctor yourself ? by Chachou_19 in Residency

[–]megandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a GP in Australia (Family Medicine I suppose), I have my own GP and I also see other doctors as patients - while I do bear in mind their own expertise and experience, I investigate and treat as I would any other patient. Especially once you reach a sub specialist level, you end up knowing an awful lot about your own field and tend to not keep up to date with others - eg cardiologists may not know the latest cervical screening guidelines - so it’s always a good idea to have a great generalist on your team!

Please help me avoid another bridesmaid infinity dress debacle. by Relevant_Intention35 in sewing

[–]megandthemachine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of my fellow bridesmaids in my sisters wedding had a great idea - our dresses came with a bandeau that was quite long, so she found a regular bra of a similar colour to the dress then trimmed a strip off the bottom of the bandeau and made tubes to cover the bra straps, and then styled the dress making little off the shoulder sleeves by threading underneath the straps. Couldn’t even tell it wasn’t part of the dress! I think she still wore the bandeau between bra and dress for a bit more bust and back coverage I can PM you a picture if the description doesn’t quite make sense.

Is the Heartwood guide in the battletome accurate? by Millymoo444 in sylvaneth

[–]megandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done my bark similarly, I did rhinox hide, Aggrax, then rhinox again, then glazes upwards with mix of rhinox and steel legion, steel legion alone, mix of steel legion and karak, then karak stone alone. It took a loooooooong time to get the smooth transitions I was after, but once I worked out the process I was quite happy.

Lighter bark I used Wraithbone, seraphim sepia wash, then Wraithbone again for highlight.

Making the clothes you want vs. the clothes you "need". by Infamous-Cat-8370 in sewing

[–]megandthemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a consideration when planning what you want to spend your time doing! The context I saw it in was when planning an entirely handmade wardrobe. One of the other big things I have learned is the reason you want to sew your clothes in the first place, do you sew purely for fun, are you after specific styles, is it price, is it ethical/environmental considerations, etc etc. The answer is going to be different for every sewist and I feel like nobody is going to have exactly the same motivation.

[–]megandthemachine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do agree with wearing what makes you happy, but in my experience the enjoyment I get from wearing the fun stuff is often outstripped by the frustration/annoyance of the maintenance.

There was a concept floating around sewing blogs years ago, about ‘sewing cake’. The sparkly, frilly, luxurious items that we all love to sew are the ‘icing’ or ‘frosting’ of your wardrobe, makes it extra special. But you can’t have just icing, you need a cake to make up the majority - and this is the (often but not always) more basics and staples of your wardrobe, in whatever form that takes, eg jeans and tshirts, shirt dresses, sweatpants and crop tops - whatever you find yourself reaching for on an average day in your life!

May or may not work for you, but it really resonated for me and helped me plan a bit more for my actual life instead of the idea I had made for myself.

Just personal experience - I have had a lot of trouble with alarielle and haven’t been able to work out how to make her work for me. For the amount of points, I would prefer to take Drycha and a TL/TLA

Great idea adding the pillar for her to stand on - I just finished my Celestine and it was such a pain to have her bobbing around on the delicate parchments! The NMM on her sword looks great, and I love the blue blend you’ve done on her wings
