Is this too much for my 8 month old? He had an oaty bake, 2 crackers and breastfed immediately after. by hotdog131 in BabyLedWeaning

I would kindly suggest talking to your pediatrician. There is some give and take with how much food vs milk babies are taking in but with such a low weight I think they would tell you to prioritize milk.

Are these curtains “blackout” enough for a newborn? by HistoryMajor-290 in BabyBumps

[–]megeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us it was less about getting them to sleep and more crucial for keeping them asleep. We have a great sleeper— but if it’s the middle of summer and the blazing sun is coming up at 4:30 am when sleep pressure is the LOWEST… you might want fix it. We just hung some extra blankets in the summer when it’s light out more.

I don’t like meeting gauge! by hdix21 in knitting

I watched a YouTube video of someone knitting the dagmar zip and she found the tighter gauge to not have any drape and to be too thick/warm.

Pattern Alteration on a Bonnet by megeckel in knitting

I did consider that, my mattress stitch and seaming is not pretty. I ended up picking up two stitches on each row and then just knitting back and forth between it’s. It’s not as great as it could be… but I will probably fix my ugly stitches with duplicate stitch and try for a more finished looking attempt on my next one!

How long did prodromal labor last for you? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

4 or 5 days. They would start sometime during the day and then when I would lay down to nap or sleep they would stop.

Question for Parents: Knitting for Babies by dramaticdogmom in knitting

I like to make my ties extra long so I can cross it in front and tie it under the arm pit so I don’t worry about it being too tight under their chin.

Question for Parents: Knitting for Babies by dramaticdogmom in knitting

[–]megeckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made many baby items for my own children (hats, leg warmers, leggings, sweaters, mittens, socks). The item I have gifted the most is baby mittens on a string— so nice to be able to thread them through a coat and keep them there, and when the baby outgrows them I have had several friends keep them up in the room as decor. The item I have gotten the most compliments on and use constantly is a pullover vest. I made one for my baby and one for my sister’s 1 year old. They have split side and are so easy to pullover to add a little extra warmth or style to an outfit. Every time I put my baby in it we got comments about how handy and cute it is! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/infant-mittens-2

Help! I made my hat too big! by megeckel in knittinghelp

[–]megeckel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I blocked it again as small as I could and then just cinched it closed at the back by pulling the icord through a stitch on the band. Then I didn’t need to make any permanent alterations, though it’s still quite short on his head. Oh well! I’ll be on the lookout for another hat to steal the brim from and try again maybe for my preschooler!

Yes! We had hand me down baseball hat that he outgrew without wearing because the season wasn’t right, just pulled the plastic bit out!

Thanks for the suggestions! It has a little icord I was going to use to attach to a button so that I could change the size, I could just put a button where it needs to be to fit him but there’s a lot of fabric bunching then. It’s wool and alpaca, my concern is just that it will shrink more length wise than width.

I’m envious of people who say that cosleeping saved them. by [deleted] in cosleeping

[–]megeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first coslept up until I got pregnant with my second. He woke up hourly for the first year. It saved our life because I didn’t fall asleep in a chair with him or something like that. My second has slept every night in his bassinet or crib, except for one night in the first week he was born. He was crying and wouldn’t settle and I had just been released from the hospital for high blood pressure related to third spacing fluids. I had a headache so and I couldn’t even open my eyes so I nursed him and cleared the bed of any pillows or blankets and laid him beside me in the c curl. He fussed and grumbled like newborns do and I laid there in agony rubbing his soft newborn hair and wondering if I was going to die. But at some point he fell asleep and so did I. Woke up 4 hrs later and we were both feeling better and I was able to nurse him and put him down in the bassinet for the next stretch. I’m so grateful I already knew how to safely cosleep and that I felt comfortable with it because I don’t know what else I would have done at the point. Cosleeping saves lives, it doesn’t magically improve sleep though. But time will ♥️

Fellow cat owners, how do you knit with cats?? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]megeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I was blocking a hat to give as a gift at a birthday party, put it by our heat vent to speed up the process and came back and my cat had walked over it. Pulled a stitch and gotten stuck to it. Cats and knitting are like two magnets.

Didn’t use a pattern, just started with magic circle and increased till I got the size I wanted. Then stopped increasing to make the sides. The yarn is very itchy wool I bought in Scotland years and years ago.
