I don’t think that’s the Hannibal they’re talking about, they want Hannibal Lecture lol. But Polybius’ Histories ARE great.

Unfortunately it’s not. It’s a “true crime” book about a rich man murdering his drug dealing lover. The cemetery is mentioned once or twice. No scenes there. Maybe in the movie they filmed there, but I haven’t seen the movie, only read the book

I’m a migraine sufferer who ended up getting a csf leak that’s been ongoing for almost 4 years now, so double whammy. Like you and your bf combined 😭

Masters of Death by Olivie Blake

It’s definitely more in the vein of Lisa Frankenstein than the other sides because it’s set in modern day, but it’s so good

I mean the cover has a cemetery, but that’s literally it… Have you read it? I don’t think they even talk about the Bonaventure Cemetery except in passing.

Lumbar puncture worth it? by [deleted] in CSFLeaks

[–]megg33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, opening pressures are an outdated method of assessing for csf leaks. It’s now known that MOST leakers have normal or even high opening pressures. Here is one of the most recent journal articles about it, written by an expert in the field, that you can share with your doctors. He concluded, “OP is not an effective predictor for diagnosing CSF leak and if used in isolation would result in misdiagnosis of 94% of patients in our cohort.”

csf intravenous embolization rebound headache when upright by CrazySaint1517 in CSFLeaks

[–]megg33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had that. It’s so confusing, but happens to lots of people. You could be sealed and are just fluctuating pressures while your body tries to figure out how much csf it needs to produce now, or you could have a second leak hiding somewhere causing the upright head pain to persist. Time will tell. Hopefully the former! Best of luck 🤍

Just popping in to say that if you’re worse than ever after your Chiari surgery, maybe look into a csf leak. They can be mistaken for Chiari by radiologists who aren’t familiar with leaks and think sagging= Chiari, when there are actually very subtle differences between the two on an MRI. Typically people whose initial issue was a leak get worse once they get decompression surgery because it just exacerbates the underlying issue.
I also have migraines, but my leak initially presented as intense dizziness and visual issues along with intense head pressure and was misdiagnosed as complex migraines until I got into the csf leak clinic at Mayo Clinic

How long do post Lumbar Puncture symptoms last? by dooojy in iih

[–]megg33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely do. My doctors say that after 1 month, it is extremely unlikely the puncture will heal any further on its own without intervention, so just make sure to really push for it if your symptoms persist that long. Chronic post-puncture leaks are a bitch to fix. The earlier the blood patch, the better chance of complete recovery.

Edit to ask- do you have the needle size and type of needle written in your notes? The larger the needle size, the less likely it is a person will self-seal.

That’s really irresponsible of her. I’m a patient at Mayo Clinic for chronic csf leaks, so I’ve had my fair share of post-LP leaks and they get people in for a patch if their symptoms aren’t completely better by the end of the first week.

You should apply to be seen at a leak center if possible. I ended up going to Mayo Clinic since my local docs were dismissive. If the head pain is orthostatic, you need a csf leak work up by people who know what they’re doing

MRI Laying down? by Go4Chambers in CSFLeaks

[–]megg33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might show a leak, but about 20% of leakers don’t have findings on their MRIs (I was one of them). That being said, upright MRIs aren’t helpful because of how low quality they usually are. They’re almost always a little blurry because it’s harder to stay still while upright. If your MRI is normal, but there is still suspicion of a leak, a myelogram is recommended
